Details | The most obvious, omnipresent biological objects in the nonmarine world are plants in general, and leaves in particular. Virtually all leaves have insect-induced damage that was inflicted when they were alive. Besides being attacked by fungi, leaves are chewed, skeletonized, surface fed, pierced and sucked, mined, galled and bored by insects. Even insect eggs are inserted into leaf tissues. What gives? Come and discuss with Dr. Conrad Labandeira how the amazing interactions of plants their insects have shaped the past and modern world. Access services such as American Sign Language interpretation, real-time captioning (CART), or audio description are available with two-weeks advanced notice. To request this service, please call (202) 633-5238 or e-mail NMNHAccessibility@si.edu. This event is wheelchair accessible. |
