Details | Join artist Tim Doud and Art in Embassies curator Sarah Tanguy for a discussion on the role of art in cultural diplomacy through the lens of a new project commissioned for the US Embassy in Niamey, Niger. Art in Embassies, an office of the US Department of State, integrates artists and artworks with US diplomatic missions across the world to foster cross-cultural dialogue and the exchange of ideas, values, and traditions. Doud, a DC-based artist and art professor with American University, has created an entirely new series of paintings developed from extensive research on textiles and patterns that can be found in Niger. Together with the artist and curator, explore the process of generating a body of work for a specific site as well as the challenges and rewards in assembling visual arts collections to promote public diplomacy and cultural understanding. Seating in the Lerner Room is first-come, first-served. Following the program, guests are invited to visit STABLE Artist Studios (336 Randolph Place NE, Studio #104, Washington, DC, 20002) until 6 pm for a studio visit with Tim Doud to view the paintings before they begin their journey to Niger. |
