Within the fabric of life known as biodiversity, the tiger is truly the golden thread. It is an apex predator; conserving it conserves the myriad of species that roam or stand within its habitat. In addition, there is hardly any species on the planet whose charisma and influence matches that of the tiger. Despite intense pressures from poaching, rapid urban development, and climate change, India has been able to protect its tigers. India has the highest number of tigers in the wild today, and it is beginning to see an increase in tiger numbers. This achievement is extraordinary. How is it done?
Please join representatives of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Smithsonian for a presentation by Dr. Anish Andheria, President of the Wildlife Conservation Trust (WCT) of India, to learn about the hope and possibility of increasing wildlife populations and revitalizing nature. This event includes a screening of the short documentary Tiger Matters, followed by a discussion.
Together with the Smithsonian, USAID and WCT have contributed to the Global Tiger Initiative and are proud to have the opportunity to present India’s success in the lead up to the Earth Optimism Summit. |
