Details | This event has been postponed. How do urban planners and policymakers respond to threats to their society's most precious buildings and artifacts? In the exhibition Age Old Cities, museum visitors can see historic structures destroyed and reconstructed (if only virtually). Every society has watched as conflict, urban renewal, and other forces have eliminated traces of the past- even if those losses were not as dramatic as in cities such as Palmyra and Mosul. Join David Sloane, a professor at the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California, and Chase Robinson, Dame Jillian Sackler Director of the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery and Freer Gallery of Art, for a discussion about artifacts and monuments, and their preservation and destruction as policy and planning issues. Note: Please enter through the Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, 1050 Independence Ave SW. The Freer Gallery of Art will not be open during this event. Doors open at 6pm, talk begins at 6:30pm. |
