How can portraiture help students understand the role of American women in the history of science who are sometimes overlooked for their contributions? This workshop will provide educational strategies to facilitate discussions of these hidden histories in the classroom through the analysis of various portraits of women in STEM. Focusing mostly on women of color, educators will discuss the complex and challenging issues these women have faced to help introduce students to the concept of intersectionality. This workshop is intended for classroom teachers. The Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants 24- 48 hours in advance of the program. Please only register for yourself. We will only be allowing participants into the meeting if their name (and email address) is on the registration list. The Portrait Gallery strives to provide programs that are accessible to all visitors. For questions, or to request accommodations such as an ASL interpreter or captioning, please email NPGAccess@si.edu. |
