Details | In highland towns throughout the Andes, women adorn hand-woven textiles with pom-poms and tassels made from sheep or alpaca wool. These colorful bobbles embellish traditional dress, handbags, and braided hair. In this workshop, Yessica Sallo Auccacusi and Rosa Pumaylli Quispe, both Indigenous weavers from Chinchero, Peru, will guide us in the art of traditional pom-pom and tassel making. Attendees can use materials at home or request a materials kit from Peru: balls of yarn, a tapestry needle, and a small handwoven bag. Along the way, we’ll learn about the culture of traditional weaving in Peru. By the end of the workshop, guests will have completed a few handmade Quechua-style pom-poms and tassels that can be used to adorn your home or clothing. Registration for this workshop is full.
