Details | Michel Martin of NPR talks to bestselling author Jason Mott (The Returned, The Wonder of All Things) about his newest novel. In Hell of a Book, an African American author sets out on a cross-country book tour to promote his bestselling novel. The fictional storyline that drives Jason Mott’s novel also includes the scaffolding of a larger and more urgent tale: the story of Soot, a young Black boy living in a rural town in the recent past, and the Kid, a possibly imaginary child who appears to the author on his tour. The Today Show's Read With Jenna Book List has selected Hell of a Book as its July Book of the Month. Martin and Mott will discuss how a surrealistic tale can explore very real issues of racism, violence, and navigating life as a person of color. Click here to order your copy of Hell of a Book. |
