Interspersed with tantalizing footage from action films, war movies, and melodramas are interviews with the actors, directors, and other crew members who made them. Their reminiscences are sometimes shocking, including battle scenes using live ammunition and rebel troops attacking film sets. But above all they bring to life a brief, vanished moment in Afghan history.
