From their stories we get a perspective on the city from the inside—one at odds with the clichéd views that fill news reports and Western fictionalized portrayals. As Deborah Young wrote in The Hollywood Reporter, this film “will feel like a melancholy poem about a half-forgotten dream. This resonant work captures the elusive feeling of the city better than others, through the interaction of real people and an unreal landscape that appears and disappears in the blowing dust.” (Dir.: Aboozar Amini, Afghanistan/Netherlands/Japan/Germany, 2018, 88 min., Dari with English subtitles) Images: courtesy of Rediance |
