Details | The second of two free webinars for educators, this learning experience celebrates the creative brilliance of renowned painter Alma Thomas. Born in Columbus, Georgia, in the heart of the Jim Crow south, Thomas came of age in Washington D.C. She witnessed social change in the 1960s and was inspired by the Space Age. Art meets science in the paintings of Alma Thomas, a trailblazing artist who took creative inspiration from plants, nature, and the cosmos. Join a rich conversation with aerospace engineer Janelle Wellons and horticulturist Abra Lee, as they help participants reflect on Thomas' legacy as a STEAM trailblazer. Wellons will share insights on how she uses images and inquiry to unlock the mysteries of the cosmos while Lee will unearth the histories of Black gardeners. Together, they’ll help us see why Thomas continues to inspire adults and students alike. Online program. Zoom link will be sent upon registration.
