Details | Bring a piece of the museum's collection into your home in this virtual craft workshop. Join NMAAHC curator Elaine Nichols and Cielo Contreras of Rock Paper Plant as we explore the life and work of pioneering African American fashion designer, Ann Lowe. In this workshop, you will learn how to create your own work of needle felted art inspired by a cocktail dress designed by Ann Lowe. Needle felting is the art of using special needles to fuse wool fibers together. Together we will learn about Ann Lowe’s work while sculpting 3-dimensional roses and leaves out of wool. Your ticket includes the cost of all materials needed for the activity, instructions, and postage. Materials kits will be shipped to participants in advance of the program. Participants must register by August 10, 2022, to ensure materials arrive on time. Materials kit includes: - Wool in shades of pink and green
- Two felting needles
- Foam felting pad
- Black felt fabric
- 4” embroidery hoop
- Glue
- Pencil
- Ribbon for hanging
Participants will need to provide their own scissors.
