Due to unhealthy air quality in the D.C. region, today’s opening ceremony has been canceled. Daytime activities will go on from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in a limited capacity to keep our participants, staff, volunteers, and visitors safe. Please check the schedule for updates throughout the day. The 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival will take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., June 29–July 4 and July 6–July 9. Visitors to the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival will experience this country’s diverse cultural landscape in two featured programs: “The Ozarks: Faces and Facets of a Region” and “Creative Encounters: Living Religions in the U.S.” As always, you can expect music and dance performances, craft workshops, kitchen demonstrations, hands-on family activities, and much more—all free and open to the public. The Smithsonian Folklife Festival is produced by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and is co-sponsored by the National Park Service.
