Visiting Scholar Research Lecture by Dr. Yan Jian. Dr. Jian is a research fellow at China Center for Global Governance in Beijing. Yan got his PhD of political science from Renmin University of China in 2012 and his doctoral thesis specifically concentrates on the reform and adaptation of Chinese Communist Party since the Reform and Opening up in 1978. Since 2013, Yan shifted his interest to post-independence African states, with a special focus on some fragile states in Africa. Yan recently finished a manuscript on the history of state failure of Democratic Republic of Congo (in Chinese) and an English paper on China-South Sudan relationship. Yan will concentrate on comparing the independence struggles of South Sudan and Eritrea in his one-year academic stay in University of Washington Tacoma. Yan was once a visiting scholar at Boston University in 2010. |
