Description | Food Studies as an area of popular culture has increasingly been gaining academic interest, and Mexican Food, as a area of Food Studies, has recently garnered a great deal of attention throughout the country. Rhetorically, scholars like Steven Alvarez and Gustavo Arellano have shown Mexican food to be fraught with controversy, especially as it concerns authenticity and appropriation. This workshop will have participants arrive at strategies for conducting productive rhetorical analyses of how Mexican food is situated in students’ lives as well as in the popular imagination of the US.
