Description | Global Themes in World History since 1500 in Five Images with Libi Sundermann, UW Tacoma This talk, based on E. Sundermann, M. Azevedo, and J. Dunn, Global Themes in World History since 1500, will give a brief introduction to the field of world history followed by examination of Sundermann’s five favorite images from Global Themes in World History to illustrate the book’s sweeping topics and themes. These include geography and environment, material culture, science and technology, gender and sexuality, and war, peace, and diplomacy between 1500 and 2000. Libi (Elizabeth) Sundermann is an Associate Teaching Professor of world, modern European, and modern British history at the University of Washington, Tacoma. She teaches courses on the British Empire, empires and imperialism, food history, as well as World History I and II. Her main goals are making history teaching and learning educative, practical, and fun. Her research interests range from world to local history and scholarship of teaching and learning. Her publications include Global Themes in World History since 1500, For God and Country: Butler's 1944 Education Act, "We Do Need an Education: Teaching Pink Floyd: The Wall," "A ‘Temple of Pleasure:’ Missoula's Wilma Theatre," and “History Lab for Undergrads: A Day at the Museum.” |
