#8216\;of the heart’\;] follows Zahra\, a 26-year-old Pakistani wom
an\, as she prepares to meet her latest arranged match for marriage. Zah
ra spends most of the play in her family’\;s kitchen preparing the
traditional Pakistani dish\, biryani\, to present to the prospective gro
om’\;s family.
Dil Ka investigates the concept of the kitche
n as both refuge and place of constriction for many South Asian women\,
and dissects the way in which we inherit familial habits and –\; mo
st importantly –\; recipes. Toying with direct address as a confess
ional to explore the intersecting identity of a queer Muslim woman and t
he growing tension between her familial duties and her own desires for l
ife. As the story unfolds the biryani becomes a metaphor for the ingredi
ents that make a “\;perfect bride”\;.

Antonio S
alieri (Reg Parks) opens the show by addressing the audience as “\;
ghosts of the future\, waiting for your turn to live”\;. Salieri wa
s Mozart'\;s chief rival and the undisputed finest composer of his da
y until the young proté\;gé\;e arrived in Vienna. The story he n
arrates tells the tale of the spectacular rise and early death of Wolfga
ng Amadeus Mozart (Tyler Boe).
Salieri’\;s jealousy pushes h
im to try to compromise the young maestro at every turn. It becomes a ba
ttle of wills that clash across the stage with bold moves that risk more
and more until the two titans of the baton reach an unimaginable end.
Watchers get a wonderful glimpse into this unique world of music c
reation in the heart of the Habsburg Empire in the late 1700’\;s. M
ozart'\;s music is considered too modern and has “\;too many not
es”\;\; he struggles to find support and recognition for his “
\;new music”\; that will in a few short years be heard around the w
orld and for centuries to come. \;
The costumes are resplende
nt\, the sound track soaring\, the story torn from history and Rachel St
ephens’\; superb direction will leave you as breathless as a Sopran
o at the end of a Mozart aria. Theatre in the Country is privileged to b
e able to mount this piece of modern theatrical history by an author who
has become the Mozart of playwriting in our world today. This is a thea
trical experience that must not be missed.

Th
e Firehall is proud to produce and present Keith Barker’\;s This Is
How We Got Here from Saturday\, April 13 to Sunday\, April 28.
S
imultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming\, This Is How We Got Here f
ollows a close-knit family still dealing with the lingering trauma of an
unexpected loss. A mother\, father\, aunt\, and uncle must learn how to
move forward after their shared grief as they re-learn how to interact
with one another through humour\, forgiveness\, and love.
It has
been a year since Paul and Lucille’\;s son Craig died by suicide\,
and their once-solid family bonds are starting to break down. While the
now-separated couple tries to honour their son\, Lucille’\;s sister
Liset and her husband Jim refuse to discuss their nephew. The ties that
keep the four together as sisters\, best friends\, and spouses are stra
ined by grief and guilt…\; until a visit from a fox changes everyth
ing.
“\;When my eye caught the cover of this newly published
play in 2017\, I felt compelled to read it as I had recently had a R
16\;fox’\; experience\, different from this but also very meaningfu
l\,”\; says Firehall Arts Centre’\;s Artistic Producer\, Donna
Spencer. “\;Once I started to read it\, I knew it was a play for F
irehall audiences\, and I appreciated how Keith had shaped this powerful
story\, blending humour with grief\, friendship with raw pain\, and the
power of the natural world.”\;
Keith Barker is a member of
the Mé\;tis Nation of Ontario. He is a playwright\, actor\, and dire
ctor from Northwestern Ontario. Keith is also the Director of the Foerst
er Bernstein New Play Development Program at the Stratford Festival\, an
d the former Artistic Director at Native Earth Performing Arts in Toront
o. He is the recipient of the Dora Mavor Moore Award and the Playwrights
Guild’\;s Carol Bolt Award for Best New Play. Keith received a Sas

lay\, The Hours That Remain\, as well as a Yukon Arts Award for Best Art
for Social Change. He was a finalist for the Governor General’\;s
Award for English Drama for This Is How We Got Here.

Mas
sey Theatre is pleased to present the world premiere of Over the Ridge o
n Saturday\, April 13 at 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Ticket prices are $45 - $50
(plus applicable fees and service charges)\, and are available online at
www.t
icketsnw.ca or by phone at 604.521.5050.
In 2020\, Vancouver
acoustic folk-roots group The Fugitives released Ridge\, a musical story
telling film that examined the WWI Canadian soldier experience during th
e Battle of Vimy Ridge. It was named a Top 10 Arts Event of the Year by
The Globe and Mail\, and spawned the JUNO-nominated album Trench Songs.<
br>
In this world premiere of Over the Ridge\, The Fugitives –\;
headed by songwriters Brendan McLeod and Adrian Glynn along with Christ
opher Suen (banjo) and Carly Frey (violin) –\; collaborate with cho
reographer and Ballet BC dancer Jacob Williams to expand this narrative
through dance. Over the Ridge explores the misconceptions and offers ref
lections on the Battle of Vimy Ridge. The story is told through direct a
ddress\, historical readings\, dance\, and new re-imaginings of the song
s WWI soldiers wrote in the trenches.
“\;As soon as we start
ed workshopping this and I saw Jacob’\;s incredible choreography an
d the dancers’\; fantastic interpretation\, I realized this was a g
ood way of giving voice to over 20\,000 WWI Canadian soldiers who were u
nderage\,”\; says McLeod. “\;Their youth is embodied on stage
in a way that is both literal enough to understand and abstract enough t
o be aesthetically compelling.”\;
Developed in partnership w
ith the Massey Theatre Society\, with help from Ballet BC and Arts Umbre
lla\, Over the Ridge adds original contemporary dance to storytelling\,
spoken word and live music\, resulting in a kinetic ride through history
that delves into our strong connection to the past and passionately arg
ues against the exploitation of young lives.
Massey Theatre’
\;s Executive Director Jessica Schneider says\, “\;We are so eager
to witness Ridge transform into Over the Ridge. Seeing artists dream big
ger and push further in their vision for their work is deeply inspiring.
We can’\;t wait to share this world premiere with you.”\;

Gavan Cheema
Set in Surrey Memorial Hospital\, Himmat is a power
ful story about resilience\, redemption\, and the strength of family lov
e. Told through flashbacks\, this bilingual play explores the lives of a
father and daughter born generations and miles apart. While Banth (Muni
sh Sharma) awaits his cancer treatment\, secrets are revealed to his dau
ghter Ajit (Gavan Cheema)\, and the two begin to (interrogate) their mem
ories and discover how their family dynamics have changed over time.
Humorous and heartwarming\, Himmat is a gut wrenchingly honest depic
tion of a working-class family’\;s struggle with addiction\, physic
al labour\, and finding connection. Himmat\, which means courage in Punj
abi\, explores the (complexities) of a Punjabi Sikh family building a li
fe in a new country. Performed in English and Punjabi\, this is a story
that inspires you to care\, whatever language is spoken.

An epic Mé
\;tis love story.
We follow Iskwewo\, Napew\, and Mistatim through
eight intertwined stories of love\, loss\, and the fight of the Mé
\;tis people as the Mé\;tis nations emerge across the plains amidst t
he fur trade’\;s robust colonization. As we experience the love sto
ries shared by the Callihoos\, through the political uprisings of the 19
30s and into the present day\, we witness their struggle to protect thei
r people and celebrate their resilient sovereignty as Mé\;tis women.

Body Parts is the hilarious one-woman sho
w from veteran artist Tara Cheyenne Friedenberg in which she tries to pe

his show within a show is one that never actually starts…\;or does
it?
Part stand-up comedy\, part Greek tragedy\, part contemporary
dance\, and 100 % relatable\, this show leads audiences through Tara
217\;s personal landscape of body dysmorphia and self-loathing with her
signature approach to performance: biting humour\, insightful social com
mentary\, and intimate honesty. Hilarious and empowering\, this revelato
ry and joyous show invites us to enjoy the amazing things our bodies can
do and laugh through the tears together.
Audience adviso

This

Nominated for the Pulitzer Prize\, this funny and touching wor
k by A.R. Gurney is a unique and imaginative theatre piece which\, in th
e words of the author\, “\;needs no theatre\, no lengthy rehearsal
\, no special set\, no memorization of lines\, and no commitment from its
two actors beyond the night of performance.”\;
The piece is
comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who g
rew up together\, went their separate ways\, but continued to share conf
idences. As the actors read the letters aloud\, what is created is an ev
ocative\, touching\, frequently funny but always telling pair of charact
er studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as wh
at is actually written down.
"\;You cannot stage a play more
simply than this\, and yet it’\;s about everything in life. First l
ove\, loss of opportunities\, loss of life\, loss of love...It’\;s
a beautiful play\, and all you do is speak it."\;
On stage fo
r two performances only at the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody.
Featu
ring Mike Arseneault as Andrew and Zoë\; Royer as Melissa.
Th
is was the first sold-out production for IOCO Players Theatre three year
s ago and we are bringing it back due to popular demand just in time for
Mother'\;s Day. A perfect way to celebrate love.
