Come along and celebrate Matariki me Puanga at your local whare pukapuka, or library, with Matariki-themed stories and waiata with our librarians.

He korero paki i te reo Pākehā ēnei; these stories are mainly in English, but we’re looking forward to sharing some kupu and waiata in te reo Māori as well. Our storytimes are family-friendly and fun for all ages.

Recommended for tamariki aged 2+ with their caregivers.

A fun and educational programme for parents and carers to interact with their babies through songs and stories. Rhyme, rhythm, repetition and music are the building blocks of language for babies. At these special Matariki sessions we will be enjoying stories and songs all about Matariki and the night sky. Kuhu mai, join us! 
 
Recommended for tamariki aged 0 – 2 years with their caregivers. 

Let’s build – let’s explore – let’s create! Come along to your library to create your LEGO® masterpiece. This session features a special themed challenge, to build something based on one of the whetū we celebrate at this time of year.

Come and meet beloved children's author and presenter Suzy Cato ONZM these school holidays at Motu-kairangi | Miramar Library. Enjoy a fantastical afternoon with whimsical stories, enchanting tales, silly songs, as well as a chance to get your favourite books signed or get a photo with Suzy herself! There’ll be plenty of fun for the whole whānau.

If you can't make it to the Miramar visit, Suzy is also visiting Waitohi | Johnsonville Library on Friday 11 July at 10.30am.

Join us and our doggy guests from Canine Friends Pet Therapy for Read to Kurī at the library. You can book a 15-minute session to sit with one of our friendly dogs and read your favourite book, or one you've found at the library.

Read to Kurī aims to help children improve their literacy, self-confidence, and self-esteem in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment. This programme is perfect for tamariki aged 5+ who would like to practice their reading skills while making a new canine friend at the library.

Bookings are for 15 minutes only. After you have booked, library staff will be in contact informing you what time to arrive for your session.

Use our colouring sheets, pens and pencils or bring your own. All ages are welcome to sit and enjoy being calmly creative.

Ethnic communities

Fun and interactive stories, songs, and rhymes to inspire your preschooler and grow a love of literacy. Through stories and play, children learn how to express themselves and understand the world around them.

Recommended for children aged 2 – 4 years with their caregivers.

CRAFTerschool is a free art and craft session aimed at school aged children.
Join us for a different project every week during term time.
Crafting starts at 3.30pm, please arrive by 4pm so you have time to complete the craft.
Suitable for children age 5+
Caregivers must remain onsite during sessions.
