Registration for the 2026-27 New Navigation Staff Orientation is now available year-round as an asynchronous online course in Canvas®.

First piloted in, this asynchronous course is designed for new navigation and student support staff who have entered the Washington State Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) provider system within the last year or who would like to build a strong foundation for their practice.

Through readings, videos, reflections, and discussion boards, this course provides an overview of the WA State BEdA system and context for these essential student service roles. Course objectives include:

Understand BEdA programs and your role within them.
Understand your BEdA students and how to support them.
Leverage resources to support your own success in these roles.

If you are staff who serve BEdA students in a navigation/student support capacity, then this training is designed with you in mind and regardless of your formal title.

This training is available for enrollment on an as-needed basis for the timely onboarding support of new BEdA navigation staff. It is offered via the Canvas Learning Management System and is available for registration between 9/18/26-6/9/27. While it's asynchronous, participants should plan to commit 1-3 hours per week over 1.5-2 months' time to complete the content.
