Alethia House Free HIV Testing Event
Aletheia House is a community-based organization that has been providing low-cost substance abuse treatment and prevention services to individuals. As early as 2024, there is approximately 2600 people who are currently living with HIV. Nearly 17% of Alabamians with HIV are not aware of their status. Knowing one's status is the first step toward treatment, reducing transmission, and improving outcomes. Early detection—enabled by free, accessible testing—is essential for public health.

Fund My Business
The program will be offered virtually on Zoom. The program is created and presented by Centro Community Partners, a national non-profit organization that focuses on providing economic opportunities to low-to-moderate income entrepreneurs, helping them build financial stability and achieve economic freedom through small business creation.
The program consists of three 2-hour sessions. The sessions will teach participants how to secure the financial backing their business needs, from preparing a solid loan application to understanding various financing options. Program presenters will guide participants on creating financial documents, building relationships with lenders, and understanding capital strategies to help their business grow. The third and final session will provide participants an opportunity to talk with experienced business financial advisors to review their business funding strategy.

On Thursday, October 2, BPL celebrates International Day of Non-Violence with the Citywide Resource, Health, & 2nd-Chance Job Fair. Second-chance employers will recruit for employees and nonprofits for potential volunteers. Many ghost stories in the South are centered around the American Civil War. However, what has been presented in these tales as historical fact is often misleading due to numerous social and cultural factors including historical romanticization and the Lost Cause. This talk will view these particular ghost stories in comparison to historical sources and analyze the impact that they have had on public perception of the conflict and its aftermath.
Kayla Jordan is a PhD student in History at the University of Alabama. Her research focuses on 19 th and 20 th century southern ghostlore and its connections to social, cultural, and ideological trends within and surrounding the region. Aletheia House is a community-based organization that has been providing low-cost substance abuse treatment and prevention services to individuals. As early as 2024, there is approximately 2600 people who are currently living with HIV. Nearly 17% of Alabamians with HIV are not aware of their status. Knowing one's status is the first step toward treatment, reducing transmission, and improving outcomes. Early detection—enabled by free, accessible testing—is essential for public health.
