Alethia House Free HIV Testing Event

Aletheia House is a community-based organization that has been providing low-cost substance abuse treatment and prevention services to individuals. As early as 2024, there is approximately 2600 people who are currently living with HIV. Nearly 17% of Alabamians with HIV are not aware of their status. Knowing one's status is the first step toward treatment, reducing transmission, and improving outcomes. Early detection—enabled by free, accessible testing—is essential for public health. Fund My Business

However, what has been presented in these tales as historical fact is often misleading due to numerous social and cultural factors including historical romanticization and the Lost Cause. This talk will view these particular ghost stories in comparison to historical sources and analyze the impact that they have had on public perception of the conflict and its aftermath. Kayla Jordan is a PhD student in History at the University of Alabama.
