Between the Lines: The Art of Conversation with Orchestra Wellington
Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Central Library
This event will take place on the Ngā Paiaka / Bleachers, Te Papa Whenua / Ground Level at Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Central.
Between the Lines is a monthly early-evening chamber music series and book club that brings music and literature into conversation. The series takes place on the final Thursday of each month and invites audiences to listen, think, and chat. No prior knowledge of music or literature is required, just a curious mind.
This series has been co-created by New Zealand String Quartet, Orchestra Wellington, and New Zealand School of Music. Each month these organisations will take turns presenting a talented group of musicians to perform music and host discussion on a different literary theme. From devil's bargains to language games, the obsessive tortured artist to the intimate private lives of writers and composers, this book club will delve deep into themes that span across artforms.
Each session will feature carefully selected music and a reading list highlighting the theme of the month.…

Free author talk with Vanessa Young: The Reluctant Homeopath
Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Central Library
Wellington City Libraries, in association with The Cuba Press, is pleased to be bringing you this conversation between science educator turned homeopath Vanessa Young, and author Kristen Phillips.
In their kōrero, Vanessa draws on decades of work in her chosen field to provide insight into how she has reconciled parts of herself that are seemingly at odds, and how to do this when we need to reframe everything we understand to be certain. Her journey, told with empathy and supported by experience, yields an unexpected science story from a reluctant homeopath.
"I find myself wondering how I ended up here – a homeopath. What a ludicrous system of medicine it seems to be. Based on ‘similars’ and utilising highly diluted substances, it doesn’t get much weirder than this. And yet here I am."
This is a free event, and all are welcome. We expect it to be very popular and seating is limited, so please arrive early to ensure a seat.
Location: This event will be held in Community Room 1, About our authors
