Hand Building Pottery Workshop - Houses, Fairy Houses, Oil Burners and Houses

Community events Soak up the creative atmosphere of a working pottery studio and join the studio community of makers. Work under the tutorage of artist Carys Martin to learn the techniques and tricks to creating in clay and to explore the different surface decoration options. Join me in the studio on Saturday 19th July 1-3pm, to learn how to create in clay. You will be given a wheel thrown base, that Carys has prepared for you, to add to and build upon or you can choose to build your houses from the slab technique. You can make a little fairy house for a tealight or oil burner that you can pop a little light in or add a base and use for blooms! During the 2 hour workshop I will take you through the steps to build your piece and you can decorate it using under glazes and tissue transfer. I will then carefully dry your piece before its first firing and will clear glaze and fire your piece. It will be ready for collection from the studio in 2-3 weeks. Event Type: Arts and crafts. Makerspace safety induction

Libraries Sign up for a free 30-minute safety induction at the Cleveland Library Makerspace, where library members can learn the basic instructions required for the safe use of all the equipment.  The safety induction is required for using the Makerspace. Once you complete the induction, you will  be able to reserve the equipment via Bookable.  During the safety induction, you will have the opportunity to upload the signed completion form to your Bookable account. To facilitate this process, we kindly request that you create a Bookable account prior to attending the induction. Release Your Goddess Pottery Workshop

Community events Soak up the creative atmosphere of a working pottery studio and join the studio community of makers. Work under the tutorage of artist Carys Martin to learn the techniques and tricks to creating in clay and to explore the different surface decoration options. Come along on Sunday 20th July 9:30am-12noon and hand build your very own Goddess. Carys will share with you techniques you can use to bring her to life and you can work with your hands in mindful muditation to bring her to life. We will work with a dark, groggy clay. The workshop will run for 2 1/2 hours and is suitable for beginners through to advanced potters. I will carefully dry your piece before its first firing then glaze it in a runny white transparent glaze and fire it in the kiln. It will be ready for collection from the studio in 2-3 weeks. On the rare occasion any breakages occur during the firing process, I will repair them to the bet of my ability. Gallery open to the Public

Beginners Pottery Wheel Throwing

Beginners Pottery Wheel Throwing

Community events Have you always wanted to learn to throw on the pottery wheel? Join Roxanne and learn the fundamentals of how to throw on the pottery wheel. Maximum of 5 people in a class. There is a meditation and mindfulness that comes with wheel throwing. It is an ancient process that fundamental skills set has not changed in thousands of years. Once you have learned the process and formulas of wheel throwing they never leave you, it is then up to you how far you take it.
