'Creativity - Diversity' Textiles Exhibition
Community events
This eclectic exhibition of beautifully hand-crafted artworks is on display in the Dunn Wing Art Gallery at Redlands Coast Museum, from 30 April to 6 June 2025.
Fifteen members of the Queensland Branch of ATASDA (Australian Textile Art and Surface Design Association) have used a wide variety of mediums, techniques and styles to interpret the theme, and weave their personal narratives into their works. Embroidery, collage, upcycling, felting, patchwork, mixed media, surface design, stitching, lettering, stencilling, fabric manipulation and much more create a vibrant and cohesive display, showing that textile art has now become an exciting artform in its own right, and no longer merely serves a functional purpose as in the past. You will be intrigued and inspired by this stimulating, thought-provoking exhibition.
Featured artists, as ATASDA members and as individual artists, have exhibited locally across Australia and internationally.

Redland Reads Book Club: Whenever You're Ready
Libraries
Join the book club! Meet with fellow literature lovers and enjoy great conversation together. New members welcome.
Book of the month: Whenever You're Ready, Whenever You're Ready by Trish Bolton is a sweetly wise and gently wistful novel about the secrets and seasons of three intertwined lives.
An unexpected death finds Lizzie, Alice and Margot at various crossroads in their lives, torn between looking back and moving on.
Lizzie is reeling from her discovery of a decades-old secret that changes everything she thought she knew about her friends, her family and her marriage. Alice has always been the good-time girl, as charismatic presenting the weather on television as she is working as a life model.
But decades of piecemeal gigs have left her with a rapidly unravelling safety net. Meanwhile, Lizzie's perfectionist daughter Margot is realising that, despite having built herself a faultlessly curated life, she hasn't put her troubled past behind her as neatly as she thought she had.

Create and connect: Yarn art
Libraries
Yarn art paintings are like traditional paintings, but instead of using paint, artists use different colours and textures of yarn to create their artwork. These pieces can range from simple designs to incredibly detailed scenes, just like paintings made with brushes and paint. The result is a unique and textured work of art that adds warmth and depth to any space.
Create and connect are a series of free events at the libraries that encourage all adult members of the community to engage with both friends and new faces while they learn new skills together. Check out more Create and connect events: https://bit.ly/RCC_createconnect

Book of the month: The First Friend, Even the worst person has a best friend.
A chilling black comedy from author Malcolm Knox, The First Friend imagines a gangster mob in charge of a global superpower.
The Soviet Union 1938: Lavrentiy Beria, 'The Boss' of the Georgian republic, nervously prepares a Black Sea resort for a visit from 'The Boss of Bosses' his fellow Georgian Josef Stalin. Under escalating pressure from enemies and allies alike, Beria slowly but surely descends into murderous paranoia.
By his side is Vasil Murtov, Beria's closest friend since childhood. But to be a witness is dangerous; Murtov must protect his family and play his own game of survival while remaining outwardly loyal to an increasingly unstable Beria.
