Blacksmithing at Redland Museum
Community events
The blacksmith’s shop is a 1870s split slab hut originally from Mt Cotton. For many years it was the home of brothers Bob and Herman Holzapfel. In 1972, it was dismantled and rebuilt at the Redland Museum and is still in use every weekend.
Every Saturday morning, the Museum blacksmiths light the forges and demonstrate the ancient craft at the anvils, using old world methods and tools made in the 19th century.
Come and watch the fires heat the metal, and the glowing iron being transformed into intricate and beautiful items such as poppies and planters, or useful household items such as side tables.

Drizzle Boy
Redland Performing Arts Centre
STRAP YOURSELF IN FOR A ROCKET RIDE, Drizzle Boy is autistic. Drizzle Boy is poked, prodded and diagnosed by a world that wants to change him and a family who doesn’t understand him. Then, on his first day of university, he meets Juliet and suddenly everything seems possible — even his lifelong dream of building a rocket and blasting-off toward the stars!
But Drizzle Boy’s day-to-day life is harder than navigating intergalactic space travel. He’s going to need all the help he can get — that’s where you come in! You’re invited to climb aboard this wildly audacious and wonderfully affirmative rocket ride as Drizzle Boy launches out into the regions as part of a tour throughout Queensland.
Drizzle Boy was the smash-hit of Queensland Theatre's 2023 Season, and we’re delighted to be able to introduce him to a whole new audience across the state. And, yes, in case you are wondering, Space Bear is definitely coming too!

Book of the month: Whenever You're Ready by Trish Bolton
An unexpected death finds Lizzie, Alice and Margot at various crossroads in their lives, torn between looking back and moving on.
Lizzie is reeling from her discovery of a decades-old secret that changes everything she thought she knew about her friends, her family and her marriage. Alice has always been the good-time girl, as charismatic presenting the weather on television as she is working as a life model. But decades of piecemeal gigs have left her with a rapidly unravelling safety net. Meanwhile, Lizzie's perfectionist daughter Margot is realising that, despite having built herself a faultlessly curated life, she hasn't put her troubled past behind her as neatly as she thought she had.
Whenever You're Ready is a sweetly wise and gently wistful novel about the secrets and seasons of three intertwined lives.

Book of the month: Burial Rites by Hannah Kent
In northern Iceland, 1829, Agnes Magnusdottir is condemned to death for her part in the brutal murder of two men.
Agnes is sent to wait on the farm of District Officer Jon Jonsson and his family, who are horrified and avoid Agnes. Only Toti, the young assistant reverend appointed as Agnes's spiritual guardian, is compelled to try to understand her. As the summer months fall away to winter, Agnes's story begins to emerge. And as the days to her execution draw closer, the question burns: did she or didn't she?
Based on a true story, Burial Rites is a deeply moving novel about freedom and the ways we will risk everything for love. In beautiful, cut-glass prose, Hannah Kent portrays Iceland's formidable landscape, and asks: how can one woman endure when her life depends upon the stories told by others?
