"Commemorating ANZAC Day" Art Exhibition

Vibrant New Exhibition at the Old SchoolHouse Gallery. Members of the Gallery have collaborated to create works inspired by the ANZAC Spirit.
The red poppy representing this special day will prominently feature in the gallery along with Rosemary. During World War 1 red poppies were among the first plants to grow on the Western Front in Europe. They bloomed across the wasted battlefields of northern France and Belgium. Rosemary, since ancient times, has been believed to improve your memory. It is an ancient symbol of fidelity and remembrance. It grows wild on the Gallipoli Peninsular in Turkey where many Australians served in the WWl. In the 1980s, cuttings of plants from Gallipoli were planted in nurseries throughout Australia to support Avenues of Honour.
All welcome to come and meet the artists and celebrate this exhibition on Saturday 6 April from 5pm. All welcome.

While essentially a drawing room comedietta, underneath the comedy there’s a sharp observation of changes rippling through world politics – and even through such unshakeable institutions as the British class system. There’s a snowstorm, a duchess, a housekeeper, a dressmaker – sorry, couturière – and a social climber. What could possibly go wrong? Swept away by a sudden twister, they find themselves in Munchkinland, where grateful locals celebrate Dorothy for freeing them from the Wicked Witch of the East.
As Dorothy sets out to find her way back to Kansas, she encounters the charming Scarecrow, the compassionate Tin Man, and the courageous Cowardly Lion, each longing for something more. Together, they embark on a journey to the dazzling Emerald City, welcomed by the spirited Ozians and challenged by the seemingly all-powerful Wizard.
The adventure takes an exhilarating turn as our heroes face the haunted forest, dancing jitterbugs, and the menacing Wicked Witch of the West. Filled with suspense, laughter, and heartwarming moments, the story reaches its climax when the true nature of the Wizard is…

So you made the cut-out project when you bought your Cricut but haven’t really ventured any further – that’s ok.
In this class, I will take away the confusion for you. There are many types of vinyl and different textures to think about – how do you know which transfer tape to use, how do I know what to leave or what to stay? Which transfer tape do I need? What if my design doesn’t cut properly? All these and even some samples to use in this fun class.

Feature talk: Thinking with UFOs

Join us for a presentation from Dr Adam Dodd, a researcher specialising in science media and a tutor at the University of Queensland. At the end of July, a report was released by the Pentagon that essentially stated there were unidentified flying objects (UFOs) that could not be explained by their intelligence.
In light of last year's Pentagon report, he will explore UFO phenomena as meaning-making events and various cultural representations of UFOs as part of the UFO phenomenon itself.

The Brisbane Festival Male Voice Choir Inc. consists of about forty men who all share a common belief and a love of singing about our Lord Jesus Christ. We are also associated with Bundaberg, a choir having been formed there many years ago.
Throughout the year the Choir sings in churches, nursing homes, and retirement villages. On 23 September 2023 we held a major Festival of Praise in Brisbane. We were joined by members from similar choirs in Toowoomba, Sydney and Bundaberg and by some past members from Melbourne and New Zealand.
The Choir also presents regional festivals in SE Queensland. These often include Bundaberg, Maryborough, Kingaroy, Dalby, Warwick, Boonah, Toowoomba and the Sunshine and Gold Coasts.

Redlands Coast Candle Lighting Vigil 2024

The Redlands Coast Candle Lighting Vigil remembers those who have died because of domestic and family violence. This vigil will be one of many held simultaneously to mark the beginning of Queensland's Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month lighting up the state in remembrance of those who have lost their lives.
Each year in Australia, more than 100 women, children and men lose their lives because of domestic and family violence. The vigil will not only remember those who have died but will also acknowledge the profound immediate and long-term impact on families, loved ones and children left behind.
The ceremony is a respectful memorial service supported by all levels of government, local domestic and family violence service groups, police and emergency services.

A Retrospective Exhibition: Improviso Ad Libitum

A retrospective exhibition Improviso Ad Libitum is being held at the Redland Museum Gallery during the months of May and June commemorating over 40 years of the cultural contribution of the Mt Cotton Drama Group to the people of the Redlands and beyond. Improviso Ad Libitum was the motto of the Drama Group and roughly translates as 'improvise and ad lib'. It is hoped that the exhibition will rekindle many memories for the many members of the group and those who enjoyed the many wonderful presentations over so long a period.

This area is an important wildlife corridor and local residents often spot koalas. At 10am and 11am researchers from University of the Sunshine Coast Detection Dogs for Conservation will be on hand to take you on a guided walk to spot koalas in the wild. You'll learn trade tips and tricks for successfully finding our fluffiest marsupial!

A group of academics have spent years shut up in a house working on the definitive encyclopedia. When one of them discovers that his entry on slang is hopelessly outdated, he ventures into the wide world to learn about the evolving language. Ian Moss, who Cold Chisel bandmate Don Walker once described as "the most gifted musician I've ever seen" will hit the regional road in February 2024 to support his new studio album, Rivers Run Dry.
The Rivers Run Dry Tour will feature songs from Rivers Run Dry and the songs you love - Bow River, Tuckers Daughter, Telephone Booth, My Baby and many more.

In this three-hour free workshop with slow fashion practitioner, advocate and author Jane Milburn, you will learn simple and effective ways to upcycle, mend, embellish or adapt clothes already in your wardrobe.
With five simple hand stitching techniques, you can tackle the majority of mending problems and give your clothes new life. Please bring one or two items you would like to upcycle, embellish or mend.

This concert showcases the talent and the new work of celebrated, ARIA-nominated, award-winning Indigenous singer and songwriter Emma Donovan.
The 80min concert with Emma and her band will include her trademark soul/country songs and new music recorded in Gumbaynggirr and Noongar languages.
Emma proudly is one of the First Nations artists, spearheading efforts to put traditional languages on the music map. She will also share stories, providing her audiences with an understanding of Country and community.
“I am very proud to introduce new words and share languages with audiences and fans. It’s so important to preserve this part of our history, family and country.
For me to write my solo album, I needed to go back into my own family musical archives to rediscover the country music I was raised on and that I performed. My solo work will be richly influenced by my family and memories of touring with The Donovans performing country and gospel music.
My family’s musical history is known but not yet world…
