Alex Kosenko - Viva Sunday Session
Community events
This Sunday, we welcome Alex Kosenko to the island stage — an independent artist from Brisbane whose Blues, Rock and Roots blend is full of soul, groove, and good energy.
Armed with a howling harmonica, bluesy guitar, warm vocals and a rhythm section at his feet — Alex’s one-man-band performance is dynamic, inventive, and full of heart. You’ll hear the road he’s travelled in every note.
From humble beginnings busking Queensland markets to festival stages like Bluesfest Byron Bay, Gympie Muster, Blues on Broadbeach and more — Alex is quickly becoming a name to know. He’s supported Aussie legends, released his debut album Our Own Hands, and is now on a 25+ show tour before heading overseas in 2026.
We’re lucky to catch him while he's on the road...

Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival 2025
Community events
At the 17th Stradbroke Chamber Music Festival, world-class musicians play chamber music masterpieces at an intimate venue in the magnificent natural setting of Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island).
Returning this year are violinist Hed Yaron Meyerson (associate concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic), acclaimed Perth violist Sally Boud, pianists Liam Viney and Anna Grinberg, and the festival's inspirational core musicians.
For the Saturday-evening concert, much-loved jazz trio Trichotomy will be presenting a brand-new collaboration with the African kora player Ziggi Mabeye Diagne.
Throughout the program there are threads of connection - between pieces, composers and places. Schubert's presence is very much felt, especially in Brahms's epic second piano quartet, while earlier in the festival we will hear how he also inspired Dvorak and Coleridge-Taylor.
Other highlights are Pavel Haas's electrifying string quartet 'From the Monkey Mountains' (with drum kit) and Tim Munro performing Lachlan Skipworth'…

Author talk: Renae Black

Keen for a new rural romance? Join Queensland author Renae Black for a look at her gritty, flirty and uplifting new novel, Second Chance Station – it’s about taking risks, overcoming the past and standing up for the people you love.
Free event. Bookings required.
Reserve your copy. About the book:
Relationships on the station are forbidden... but are some rules made to be broken?
At Windale Mountain Sheep Station there's only one rule: don't sleep with the guests.
In her ten years living on the mountain, Indigo Mills has never once thought about breaking the rules. After a childhood of neglect and an adolescence that still haunts her, the opportunity to live and work on the sheep station was a lifesaver – literally – and Indy won't do anything to jeopardise her mountain family and home.
That is until Carter Hendrix, the best half-back in the game of professional rugby league, turns up.
The Scorpions have come to Windale for a pre-season training camp, fresh off the loss of last year's grand final, a…

Author talk: Adam Courtenay

Meet author Adam Courtenay as he reveals a story close to his heart, his memoir and retelling of life with the famous writer, My Father Bryce.
Free event. Bookings required.

Dynamic, complex, driven: Bryce Courtenay was all of these as well as one of Australia's most beloved authors. To his son Adam, he was larger than life, mercurial and impossible to know completely.
In this moving, unforgettable memoir, Adam searches for the real Bryce.
Bryce Courtenay was one of Australia's highest-selling and most-loved authors as well as a larger-than-life character. From his first book, The Power of One, he captivated readers. With his third, the non-fiction title April Fool's Day, he captured their hearts.
Many of his fans would have thought they knew him, and they did - they knew the version of him that he wanted to present to the world. Bryce's son Adam also knew that version. And he knew the Bryce the rest of the world only glimpsed, or never saw at all.

Book of the month: All the Bees in the Hollows
In this debut murder-mystery historical fiction by Lauren Keegan, the saying goes, ‘Bees choose their masters. Bees don't sting good people.’
Marytè is a devoted beekeeper. She lives by the old rules: work with fellow beekeepers, be a good Christian and a good harvest will follow. These rules help her cope with her grief when she inherits her husband's tree hollows. But as harsh conditions and tax increases threaten the harvest, Marytè begins to question her faith, her community and her own sanity.
There is little help to be had from her eldest daughter. Austėja is no worker bee. She takes risks, speaks her mind and dreams of escaping their isolated community. As her mother works, she finds refuge in the ancient forest and the old beliefs instilled in her by her defiant grandmother.
When Austėja discovers the mutilated body of the Hollow…

Create and connect: Blotted line printmaking
Libraries
When Andy Warhol first used the blotted-line monoprint method, illustrators were amazed – and they’re still amazed today!
In this beginner class, you’ll learn the very same process that Warhol made famous using simple materials: a nib pen, acrylic ink and tracing paper. Plus, of course, you’ll need a wonderful image to trace. (A variety of images will be provided; however, if you wish to create an art piece from your own image, please bring a black & white A4 photocopy with you.)
Without any drawing skills required, we’ll walk you through how to create a one-of-a-kind monoprint that pops!
