Convict Brisbane Walking Tour
Explore Brisbane’s colonial history on this guided tour through the city’s convict past.Beginning at the historic Windmill on Wickham Terrace and winding down to the river at Queens Wharf, the tour traces Brisbane’s transformation between 1823 and 1842 - from a remote penal outpost to an emerging free town. Hear stories of convicts and commandants, revealing how punishment, labour and authority shaped daily life. Along the way, our guides bring the settlement into focus, illuminating the social fabric and living conditions, as well as the central role of the Brisbane River in sustaining the colony. Woven throughout the tour are First Peoples’ responses to British settlement, their enduring connection to Country, and the Frontier wars that directly followed this era. Together, these intersecting stories offer a deeper understanding of how Brisbane grew from its earliest foundations into a regional centre. Tour highlights include: The Windmill, The Brisbane Crest, The Petrie Tableau, Convict-built structures…

Three acclaimed choreographers give voice to women’s stories through bold, distinctive movement languages:Rosetta Cook's Rendezvous is a work that ignites with passion and sensuality. A couple entwines in a tango steeped in ballet technique and elegance - fiery, intimate, and unapologetically sensual. Arianna Marchiori’s One of Those Days delicately reveals the hidden rhythm of a woman’s inner cycles. Through subtle repetition and shifting dynamics, everyday actions are transformed by fluctuating waves of energy, mood, sensitivity and strength - making the unseen powerfully visible. Emrys Goldsworthy’s Glassworks fuses post-classical contemporary dance with pointe work and unexpected ballet influences, set to the hypnotic music of Philip Glass (including Violin Concerto No. 1). Three female characters confront trials in love, moments of self-destruction, and the hard-won journey of transcending their past. …

Morning Masterworks 3: Beethoven & Dvořák
Start your Friday with a touch of classical brilliance with this Morning Masterworks concert - two towering masterpieces, each with its own voice.Dvořák once doubted the cello’s power to lead an orchestra - until he composed a concerto that defied all expectations. Lyrical, radiant, and full of emotional depth, it is now widely regarded as the greatest ever piece written for the instrument. Cellist Ivan Karizna brings it to life with passion and precision, under the baton of Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici. Beethoven’s Symphony No.7 follows: a work Wagner once called “the apotheosis of the dance”. With rhythm as its driving force, this iconic symphony moves from the majestic nobility of its first movement to a finale of exhilarating power. Surround yourself with the energy of music. Queensland Symphony Orchestra is proudly supported by Brisbane City Council.

Maestro 4: Beethoven, Dvořák & Smetana
Two towering masterpieces, each with its own voice.Dvořák once doubted the cello’s power to lead an orchestra - until he composed a concerto that defied all expectations. To open, audiences will hear Smetana’s Bartered Bride Overture, a dizzying and virtuosic tour de force. Surround yourself with the energy of music.
