Who drops a lot

Do plants feel the cold? Some trees seem to clutch their leaves tightly to them during the winter months and some like to drop them all and go naked. Come explore our Temperate Region Plants Garden during our Winter Hub school holiday activities and see ‘who drops a lot’. Collect fallen leaves, make leaf rubbings and tracings, sketch, colour and write about your favourite Autumn leaf. Explore leaf shape, colour and venation and take home a leafy journey stick of your winter fun. All materials provided. Requirements: Children under 16 are to be accompanied by an adult. Come explore our Temperate Region Plants Garden during our Winter Hub school holiday activities and see ‘who drops a lot’. This expressive mark-making workshop focuses on the Queensland Conservation Collection and will take place in seated marquees along the QCC trail, near the Amphitheatre. Starting at 9:30 am, participants will begin their morning with a 30-minute stroll on the Queensland Collection Trail, where they will explore threatened and endangered species, such as the Melaleuca sylvana. Participants then settle in for a 2.5-hour drawing session, where they will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of art mediums and techniques—from expressive mark-making with ink and watercolour to foundational graphite rendering.
