Propagating plants
From the Ground Up is a five part workshop series on how to garden and grow plants sustainably. The methods and practices in the workshops are designed to restore and nurture the environment and to assist you in growing your garden harmoniously with nature. Each workshop is independent of the others and you do not need to attend them all. This month’s workshop is about propagating plants through seed, cuttings and division. You will receive information about how to make your own propagation soil mix, care for your developing plants, save money and learn about the seasonal cycle of plant life. The practical activity involves making paper pots and planting seeds, cuttings and divisions to take home and care for. Finding healing power in plants is an ancient idea. Man has always been in search for agents to cure various ailments. Walter Hill introduced a large number of Australian and exotic plants, many of which turned out to have medicinal value. Many thrive and can still be seen today. Imagine what you may learn about some of our best loved plants.
Guided walks are led by City Botanic Gardens Volunteer Guides.
Requirements: This walk requires average physical activity, including walking distances up to 500m, possibly some uneven ground but mainly paved paths. Stops are short and mainly for guide explanations. Some short standing periods or sitting if required. Please wear a hat, enclosed walking shoes, and be sure to bring a water bottle and sunscreen.
