Be drawn into a dialogue with nature through Rachel Apelt’s Understory.Visual artist Rachel Apelt, who lives in the upper catchment of Kedron Brook and Cabbage Tree Creek, shares her deep connection to nature with this exhibition. A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creek lines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creek line regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade. Bush Babies
Bring your babies to Karawatha Forest and immerse them in the wonders of the outdoors. This free-form event introduces your baby to the joy of free play in nature. Bush Babies offers a safe space for families to connect with each other and their local bushland reserve. Join us for a morning of exploration and connection, where parents and children aged 0-1 can play, learn, and make new friends.
Requirements: All babies must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed walking shoes and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site.

A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creek lines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creek line regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade.

Bring your babies to Karawatha Forest and immerse them in the wonders of the outdoors. This free-form event introduces your baby to the joy of free play in nature. Bush Babies offers a safe space for families to connect with each other and their local bushland reserve. Join us for a morning of exploration and connection, where parents and children aged 0-1 can play, learn, and make new friends.
Requirements: All babies must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult. Wear a wide-brimmed hat, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, fully enclosed walking shoes and insect repellent. Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site.

Be immersed in the natural surroundings of the reserve as children build nature confidence through bushwalks, exploration, story-time, art 'n' craft and much more. Bush Kindy can go for up to 45 minutes and will go ahead in light rain. Themes vary each week. Visual artist Rachel Apelt, who lives in the upper catchment of Kedron Brook and Cabbage Tree Creek, shares her deep connection to nature with this exhibition. A ‘walking artist,’ her work presents details and impressions from her daily walks along creek lines and forest reserves. The work celebrates the special role of Macaranga trees in creek line regeneration, highlighting their beauty and ecological importance as well as the sense of community that can flourish in their shade.

Join Environment Centre staff on an early morning walk and improve your bird identification skills while exploring the reserve. Nature journaling social club
Take some time out for yourself and reconnect with nature. This nature journaling social group meets at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays).
These informal sessions are facilitated by environment centre staff and are suitable for beginners and those who have already started journaling. After a simple introductory session, staff will lead a short, gentle guided walk to practice some nature journaling. After the activity ends, participants are welcome to continue journaling in the natural beauty of the reserve. Please bring your own basic A5 sketch/art pad and a re-usable cup to enjoy tea and coffee on arrival.

Take some time out for yourself and reconnect with nature. This nature journaling social group meets at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays).
