Bush Kindy
Bush Kindy is for children aged 3-5 years, alongside their parents and carers. Be immersed in the natural surroundings of the reserve as children build nature confidence through bushwalks, exploration, story-time, art 'n' craft and much more. Bush Kindy sessions can go up to 45 minutes and will go ahead in light rain. Themes vary each week. Requirements: Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the environment centre. , All children must be directly supervised by an adult. , Wear a hat, sun-safe clothing, fully enclosed shoes, sunscreen, and bring insect repellent. , Suitable old clothes recommended for messy play. , Bring water and a snack if required, as there are no food outlets on site. Bring your babies to Karawatha Forest and immerse them in the wonders of the outdoors. This free-form event introduces your baby to the joy of free play in nature. Bush Babies offers a safe space for families to connect with each other and their local bushland reserve. Join us for a morning of exploration and connection, where parents and children aged 0-1 can play, learn, and make new friends.

Drawing on Nature
Join Louise (botanical artist) for a lesson on drawing in nature, discovering the intricacies of drawing what you see - like a seed pod, leaf, seashell or a butterfly. Learn how to add tone and hints of colour to your drawing using simple art materials. Louise has a relaxed teaching style and will demonstrate some easy drawing techniques for you to try. We will be working with graphite and coloured pencils on drawing paper, all of which will be supplied. You can also bring your own pencils if you wish. A selection of natural materials will be available for inspiration on the day. Kitchen herbs
Culinary herbs are multi-functional plants that are tasty to eat, easy to grow and which can be grown in a variety of spaces - from kitchen windowsills, pots and raised beds, up to entire gardens. They look and taste fantastic and are a cost-effective way to add interest and flavour to your meal. They are also useful for attracting beneficial insects to the garden. This workshop looks at the top 10 common herbs, as well as some of the more unusual herbs available. Requirements: Please wear a hat and enclosed shoes; and bring a keep cup or water bottle. Moore Park is alive after dark!
Join us and become a citizen scientist for a night, help us record nocturnal biodiversity. Let's go on a microbat walk and listen to their echolocation call made audible through a special device. , We'll set up light-sheets to attract moths and other nocturnal invertebrates. All you need is your smart phone and the iNaturalist app. Please wear protective clothing and enclosed walking shoes. , BYO food and refreshments and a chair. We'll eat and chat while waiting for insect life to find the light-sheet. This event is run by volunteers of local community groups. We are grateful and love to highlight our park's natural wealth, immensely improved over 25 years of rehabilitation.

Social nature journaling
Meet at Downfall Creek Bushland Centre on the last Friday afternoon of each month (except public holidays). These informal sessions are facilitated by environment centre staff and are suitable for beginners and those who have already started nature journaling.
Enjoy a cuppa during a short introduction to nature journaling, then join a gentle guided walk for practice and inspiration, find your own quiet sit-spot, or continue at the shelter. The group will meet back at the shelter to finish up, and then participants are welcome to continue journaling in the natural beauty of the reserve.

Join this informative guided walk around one of the many tracks in Karawatha Forest. A volunteer guide will lead you through the forest and identify many of the native flora and fauna you will see along the way. After the walk, visitors can enjoy other nearby walking tracks, relax in the picnic area, and visit Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre. Requirements: All children must be accompanied by an adult. , Wear a wide-brimmed hat, secure and fully enclosed walking shoes, sun-smart clothing, sunscreen, and insect repellent. , Bring drinking water and a snack or picnic lunch as there are no food outlets on site. Join Brisbane City Council's Environment Centre staff on a twilight walk through Karawatha Forest. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature as we discover the flora and fauna that surround us, all while receiving the incredible gifts our environment offers.
