Echoes Of Peace
Staff submitted
Echoes of Peace, Chinese Folk Songs and Traditional Melodies for Asian Heritage Month, Step into a rare and intimate live music experience this spring in the heart of Vancouver. Echoes of Peace brings together the Vancouver Chinese Music Ensemble and award-winning guest artist Ginalina for an afternoon of beautifully reimagined Chinese folk songs. Set inside the tranquil Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden, this concert blends the sounds of traditional instruments with contemporary arrangements that feel both timeless and deeply human. Expect music that moves gently through themes of connection, identity, and belonging. This is more than a performance. It is a pause. A chance to step away from the noise and settle into something calm, reflective, and grounding. Whether you come with friends or on your own, you will be welcomed into a shared space of stillness and sound. Featuring: Jirong Huang (erhu), Zhong Xi Wu (suona), Sarah Yusha Tan (guzheng), GuiLian Liu (pipa), Sijia Huang (keyboard), …

Silent Movie Mondays: The Lodger: a Story of the London Fog
Staff submitted
Escape to the roaring 1920s at Silent Movie Mondays, a popular film series presented by Vancouver Civic Theatres! Join us in the stunning Orpheum theatre to enjoy a screening of The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (1927) directed by Alfred Hitchcock while a soundtrack is played live on the theatre’s rare Wurlitzer organ - an instrument originally created to accompany silent films and the last in Canada still in its original home. Alfred Hitchcock considered The Lodger to be his true directorial debut, it also became his first critical and commercial success. This haunting silent thriller tells the tale of a mysterious young man who takes up residence at a London boarding house just as a killer known as the Avenger descends upon the city. An evening at Silent Movie Mondays also includes a live Jazz Band performance one hour before the show and a fun post-show talk from Vancouver Film School’s Keith Blackmore.
