Repair Cafés connect skilled local volunteers with event participants to share repair knowledge and hands-on help. Community members are encouraged to bring items like computers, laptops, bicycles, small appliances, textiles, and electronics to be diagnosed and repaired when possible, while learning how to carry out repairs themselves.

The storm drain (catch basin) marking program was developed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada in 1991 as a conservation and education project. It involves residents painting yellow fish next to catch basins and handing out educational door hangers in the community to explain the program.
