We'll teach you how to set up and maintain a backyard compost bin and vermicompost (worm) bin, see what materials can or cannot be placed in your compost bin, and how to effectively use finished compost. Compost bins are available to purchase at a discounted rate. Payment is only accepted by check or exact cash (Can-o-Worms and Earth Machine are $45 each, Geobin is $15). Alternatively you may have the amount charged to your utility account and the compost bin will be delivered to you at a later date.

The City of Long Beach has partnered with Bye Bye Mattress for our Saturday, May 4, 2024 event.
The Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program recycles more than 1.7 million mattresses each year in California. As a participating collection site, we accept mattresses and box springs for free at 970 W. Chester Pl, Long Beach, CA 90813 on the first Saturday of every month during the following hours of operation 8:00AM-2:00PM. Thanks to this program, these units are diverted from landfills and used to make other useful products such as carpet padding, insulation, filters and mulch. The program also helps our community combat illegal dumping. *Open to Long Beach residents only.

Recycle your old bicycles with us!
Donate gently-used bicycles at any of five locations throughout Long Beach, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on May 4, as part of the Long Beach Bike Month activities. Usable bicycles will be refurbished by Pedal Movement and donated to local non-profit organizations. Bicycles or parts that cannot be reused will be recycled.

The City of Long Beach has partnered with Bye Bye Mattress for our Saturday, July 6, 2024 event.
The Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program recycles more than 1.7 million mattresses each year in California. As a participating collection site, we accept mattresses and box springs for free at 970 W. Chester Pl, Long Beach, CA 90813 on the first Saturday of every month during the following hours of operation 8:00AM-2:00PM. Thanks to this program, these units are diverted from landfills and used to make other useful products such as carpet padding, insulation, filters and mulch. The program also helps our community combat illegal dumping. *Open to Long Beach residents only.
