Brains Uncorked by Coriolis: Inaugural Night
Join us for the first-ever Brains Uncorked, a live event series where each month three scholars share powerful, thought-provoking talks, each just 10–15 minutes long.
This isn’t your typical lecture. Held in a bar, Brains Uncorked brings ideas that go down smooth but stick with you while you sip drinks and contemplate. With this series, we aim to serve up big ideas with a punch: unexpected, provocative, and designed to challenge the way you think.
In this inaugural installment, three professors at local universities will share insights they've gathered from years of in-depth research on how race is shaped by and functions within American institutions: from schools, to prisons, to universities. There will be no slides or long lectures, just sharp insights, bold perspectives, and conversations that linger well after the last glass is empty.

Sullivan's Travels in 35mm
Writer-director Preston Sturges’s seriocomic road movie tells the story of John L. Sullivan, a successful director of frivolous Hollywood entertainments who decides to take an incognito road trip to learn about Depression-era America’s “forgotten men” and make his upcoming drama more authentic. Stars Joel McCrea and Veronica Lake make a charming pair of glamorous vagabonds, and the film features some of Sturges’s most memorable dialogue as well as members of his usual company of delightful character actors. Sullivan’s Travels is a witty satire of the studio system during what many consider to be Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Suhn Lee: Memento Mori
Los Angeles— The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) presents Suhn Lee: Memento Mori, an exhibition highlighting the work of Los Angeles-based artist Suhn Lee. Curated by arts associate, Samantha Alexis Manuel, with LAMAG curator, Hugo Cervantes. Memento Mori marks the first institutional exhibition by the Los Angeles-based artist Suhn Lee, whose practice synthesizes ceramics and textiles. Lee is drawn to the materials' meditative and process-driven nature; sculptures externalize the psychological experiences of anxiety, perfectionism, and grief. Informed by her Korean American heritage, the artist presents a series of sculptures she describes as “creatures”: small to medium-sized ceramics armored objects with beadwork, sequins, and fabric. The abstracted geometric forms are…

Gallery 839 Opening: Reem Ali Adeeb: Remedies for Nostalgia
Reem Ali Adeeb’s work is deeply influenced by her experience as a Syrian immigrant living in Los Angeles for over 12 years. Outside of her work in the animation industry, her art seems to be chasing remedies for the nostalgia and longing that have settled in her heart—by recreating the elements visually or revisiting old concepts and meditating upon their new meanings that emerged from her perspective as an outsider living in the West.
In her creative process, she reaches for anything that engages her senses and memories, anything that brings her closer to the places and times she can’t physically return to. Whether it’s shopping at international grocery stores or surrounding herself with Muslim iconography—small prayers and du‘a that echo through her childhood—through her work she is always searching for a place, an object, or a visual element that draws her nearer to the unquenchable feeling of home.
For Remedies for Nostalgia, Ali Adeeb mostly works with Risograph digital printing and block printmak…

Jack Goes Boating in 35mm with Love Liza in 35mm
Double Feature. In-person: John Ortiz, Gordy Hoffman, and Todd Louiso.
Jack Goes Boating in 35mm
Introduced by actor John Ortiz.
The only feature directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman is a character-driven comedy-drama about limo driver Jack, the couple who are his closest friends, and the woman they try to fix him up with. Hoffman originated the role of Jack in Bob Glaudini’s off-Broadway play alongside his on-screen costars John Ortiz and Daphne Rubin-Vega. When the actor he wanted to play the lead in the film adaptation proved unavailable, Hoffman reluctantly reprised his stage role, working confidently as both star and director with Oscar nominee Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone) completing the cast as Jack’s love interest.

The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon
Victims in search of justice. Latino Theater Company brings Chicago’s Water People Theater back to Los Angeles for a three-week run of The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon following the show’s success as part of last season’s Encuentro theater festival. A taut psychological drama, The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon is set in 2019 somewhere in Latin America. The Last Play by Rickerby Hinds
A play. A memoir. A rant. Written by celebrated playwright and pioneer of Hip-Hop theater Rickérby Hinds and directed by Daphnie Sicre, a champion and specialist in Afro-Latiné theater, the world premiere of The Last Play by Rickérby Hinds opens April 26 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown Los Angeles. Performances continue through May 25, with six low-priced previews taking place April 17 through April 25.
Rickérby Hinds has the unique ability to challenge conventional notions of the stage while taking advantage of its history and traditions. In this Latino Theater Company-commissioned, meta-theatrical comedy that was developed in the company’s Circle of Imaginistas playwriting group, an Afro-Latino playwright, blocked by the challenge of writing what he believes will be his final play, summons characters from some of his previous plays for inspiration — only to confront chaos, comedy, and a deeper understanding of his identity and the true meaning of success.

Suhn Lee: Memento Mori
Los Angeles— The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) presents Suhn Lee: Memento Mori, an exhibition highlighting the work of Los Angeles-based artist Suhn Lee. Curated by arts associate, Samantha Alexis Manuel, with LAMAG curator, Hugo Cervantes. Memento Mori opens on Thursday, March 6, 2025, to Sunday, May 18, 2025, the public is welcome to attend the opening reception on Sunday, March 9, 2025, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Screenings of this film are free with museum general admission and for museum members.
This original short-form documentary, created as part of the museum’s first ever permanent exhibition, Hollywoodland: Jewish Founders and the Making of a Movie Capital, delves into the backgrounds of the industry founders and the nuances of what makes the founding of Hollywood a Jewish immigrant story, characterized by both oppression and innovation.
Narrated by Ben Mankiewicz, the film features archival imagery and film clips, illustrating the larger global context at the turn of the 20th century, as well as personal narratives of the predominantly Jewish founders of the Hollywood studio system.

The Terminator in Dolby Vision
Cyborg hitman T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is sent from the future to kill civilian Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), whose unborn child will one day avert the destruction of mankind by the artificial intelligence technology Skynet. Evoking a post-apocalyptic future in which evil autonomous networks seek world domination, James Cameron’s The Terminator was massively influential in establishing cyberpunk aesthetics and themes of the decade, especially in its anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian spirit. The film’s androids were designed by special effects and makeup artist Stan Winston, whose later work with prosthetics, puppets, and animatronics on Terminator 2: Judgment Day would earn him Academy Awards for both Makeup and Visual Effects.

Break Open to Beauty
Spring 2025 Concerts “Break Open to Beauty”
Let your heart unfurl in empathy, vulnerability, and hope as PWC’s spring concert, Break Open to Beauty, beckons you to embrace music’s deep, transformative power to awaken emotions!
The program showcases Giovanni Pergolesi’s heart-wrenchingly beautiful Stabat Mater, an early 18th-century portrayal of a mother’s grief. This multi-movement work weaves together solos and duets with choral movements amplifying and giving voice to sorrow.
The concert also features the world premieres of two works composed for the PWC by our Composers-in-Residence. One is an excerpt from Freida Abtan’s (2026) opera-in-progress for video and live chorus, reimagining the Orpheus myth. Amy X Neuburg’s (2025) “What Place is This?” delves into what home and place are for so many who are displaced. This same longing for refuge is echoed in Michael Bussewitz Quarm’s hauntingly lyrical “Nigra Sum,” symbolizing the promise of a new spring.

Hellas
Part I (run time includes intermissions): Spanning decades, and viewed over a single day on Saturdays and Sundays, the birth of western civilization and democracy takes form in the Greek epic, Hellas. Never before seen in Los Angeles, this sweeping, visceral stage production with a cast of twenty-three, is set in early fifth-century B.C. when a tiny, backward and disunited region faced invasion by the mightiest empire the world had ever known ... and triumphed.
The story is vast, split into two parts of compelling entertainment while encompassing the evolution of societal structures, revenge along with unlikely alliances, and an emerging system of justice. Weekend performances offer the complete saga with a dinner break, while Friday night performances offer viewing choices of Part I or Part II on alternating weeks.
Hellas is a marathon theatrical epic, presented as in ancient Greece, the story over a single day.

Dracula and Other Insidious Characters! (Original Dark Comedy)
Dracula & Other Insidious Characters A dark comedy where power, politics, and bloodlust get hilariously tangled.
What do you get when a vampire prince, a disillusioned nun, a power-tripping priest, a struggling café owner, and the President of the United States walk into a coffee shop?
Chaos. Deals with the devil. And surprisingly good fish.
In this biting new comedy, Dracula wakes up in modern-day America—and finds a world so corrupt, it actually makes him feel... hopeful? As he teams up with the unlikeliest allies to "restore balance" to humanity, things quickly spiral into absurdity—with Satan herself popping in for commentary, control, and a few laughs.
Think "Succession" meets "What We Do in the Shadows"—with a theological twist.
Holy water won't help you now. But coffee might.
"Dracula & Other Insidious Characters" A supernatural satire about immortality, influence, and the end of civilization... served with a side of steak sandwich.

Tasty Little Rabbit
Tasty Little Rabbit is a true story of intrigue and artists. Written by Tom Jacobson and directed by George Bamber, the story is set during the 1936 Fascist Italian investigation of pornography charges in Taormina, Sicily. This artistic prosecution uncovers a much darker secret of an 1890s love triangle involving poet Sebastian Melmoth, photographer Wilhelm Von Gloeden and an 18-year-old Sicilian boy. What might be discovered, and sacrificed, to protect secrets of the heart?
“Benito Mussolini used moral cleansing as a means to gain control of the people in Italy. Tasty Little Rabbit focuses on one such persecution of 1890s photographer Baron Wilhelm von Gloeden,” says director George Bamber. “He was the Gilded Age’s ultimate ‘influencer.’ His photographs of the locals on the Sicilian coast made the village of Taormina a required stop on the grand tour, particularly for prominent men attracted to beautiful male youth. What drew me to the play, what made it essential for me to direct, is Tom’s unpara…

Written by acclaimed Venezuelan playwright, actress and human rights advocate Rebeca Alemán and directed by Iraida Tapias, the Jeff Award-nominated drama opens May 3 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown Los Angeles. Performances continue through May 25, with two low-priced previews taking place on May 1 and May 2. All performances feature Spanish supertitles.
A taut psychological drama, The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon is set in 2019 somewhere in Latin America. Somewhere in a country immersed in violence and corruption, a world where cruelty is habit, impunity is routine, liberty is utopian and revealing the truth poses the greatest danger of all. After surviving a vicious attack that left her in a coma, Paulina, a human rights journalist and…

March of the Penguins in 35mm
Each year, at the end of the Antarctic summer, emperor penguins embark on a grueling journey in impossible temperatures to reach their breeding grounds for a traditional mating ritual. The biggest challenge comes after their eggs hatch, as the penguins take turns protecting their chicks while searching for nourishment, demonstrating their determination and resilience in caring for their young. March of the Penguins was four years in the making, with director Luc Jacquet and his crew spending a little over a year filming in Antarctica. Remarkably shot, underwater cameras were used to capture never-before-seen footage of penguins below the ocean’s surface.

Suhn Lee: Memento Mori
Los Angeles— The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) presents Suhn Lee: Memento Mori, an exhibition highlighting the work of Los Angeles-based artist Suhn Lee.

Hellas
Spanning decades, and viewed over a single day, the birth of western civilization and democracy takes form in the Greek epic, Hellas.
Fridays at 7:30pm Part I on 4/18 and 5/2; Part II on 4/25 and 5/9. Saturday and Sundays at 2pm offer the complete saga (with three intermissions).

A Man of No Importance
Step into 1960s Dublin, where an amateur theater group and its passionate leader attempt to bring Oscar Wilde’s Salome to life against all odds. A Noise Within presents A Man of No Importance, an evocative, intimate musical gem from the Tony Award-winning team behind Ragtime: composer Stephen Flaherty, lyricist Lynn Ahrens, and bookwriter Terrence McNally. With ANW co-artistic director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott at the helm alongside music director Rod Bagheri, A Man of No Importance opens May 10 for a four-week run through June 1. Previews begin May 4.
Bus conductor Alfie Byrne has two joys in life: the poetry of Oscar Wilde and staging amateur productions with his local theater troupe, the St. Imelda Players. But when he opts to stage a production of Salome, this man of seemingly no importance must confront religious objections while facing the forces of bigotry and shame over a love “that dare not speak its name.” Inspired by a 1994 film starring Albert Finney, A Man of No Importance beautifully combines t…

Just Like Us
Latino Theater Company opens its 40th Anniversary Season with the professional West Coast premiere of Just Like Us, a non-fiction play by Karen Zacarías, inspired by a bestselling book by Helen Thorpe. Directed by Fidel Gomez (Tacos La Brooklyn), Just Like Us opens April 19 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center in downtown Los Angeles. Performances continue through May 18, with six low-priced previews taking place April 10 through April 18.
This true coming-of-age story about four Latina girls is more timely now than ever, posing difficult, yet essential questions about what makes us American. Reporter Helen Thorpe follows the lives of four Latina girls in Denver who straddle two worlds: Clara and Elissa hold legal documents, while Yadira and Marisela do not. Against the odds, each finds her way into a good college, but the hurdles only mount from there. Student loans are not an option when you don’t have a Social Security number, and if your parents face deportation, your siblings may be moving into your dorm…

La Razón Blindada
How to stand up to a dictator in seven performances: 24th Street Theatre revives its sublimely witty and provocative, award-winning production of La Razón Blindada (“Armored Reason”) for a limited three-weekend engagement in May. Written and directed by Argentine playwright Arístides Vargas, the play was triply inspired by testimonies from political prisoners held in Rawson Prison during Argentina’s “Dirty War” of the 1970s, “The Truth About Sancho Panza” by Franz Kafka, and the classic novel “El Quixote” by Cervantes. Performances take place May 3 through May 18 at the company’s home, a converted carriage house in the West Adams historic district. All performances will be performed in the original Spanish with English supertitles.
Jesus Castaños Chima and Tony Durán reprise their roles as political prisoners who are allowed to interact with one another for one hour a week — but must remain in their chairs and never stand. As they entertain each other with stories of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, we witne…

Latino Theater Company brings Chicago’s Water People Theater back to Los Angeles for a three-week run of The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon following the show’s success as part of last season’s Encuentro theater festival.

Hellas
Part I and Part II, the complete saga (includes 3 intermissions): Spanning decades, and viewed over a single day, the birth of western civilization and democracy takes form in the Greek epic, Hellas.

Hellas
Spanning decades, and viewed over a single day, the birth of western civilization and democracy takes form in the Greek epic, Hellas.
Fridays at 7:30pm Part I on 4/18 and 5/2; Part II on 4/25 and 5/9. Saturday and Sundays at 2pm offer the complete saga (with three intermissions).

Hellas
Part II (run time includes one intermission): Spanning decades, and viewed over a single day on Saturdays and Sundays, the birth of western civilization and democracy takes form in the Greek epic, Hellas.

Love's End (‘Clôture de l’amour’)
French director Maurice Attias, in residence at the Odyssey Theatre, brings a slice of French culture to L.A. with the West Coast premiere of Clôture de l’amour (Love’s End) by celebrated French playwright Pascal Rambert. Performances, in an English translation by Jim Fletcher and Kate Moran, run May 10 through June 15 at the Odyssey’s three-theater venue in West Los Angeles, with two low-priced previews May 8 and May 9.
Award-winning Australian actor Beejan Land, a member of France’s Theatre du Soleil who appeared on Broadway in The Kite Runner, and Ann Sonneville, recently seen in Last Summer at Bluefish Cove at the Fountain Theatre, star in Rambert’s riveting and bitingly funny look at the dissolution of a marriage. The audience is immediately hooked, drawn irrevocably into the world of a husband and wife whose deep love for one another has somehow, inexplicably come to an end. The language is violent, cutting and darkly comic, a torrential outpouring that offers a deeply insightful examination of love,…

The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon

Latino Theater Company brings Chicago’s Water People Theater back to Los Angeles for a three-week run of The Delicate Tears of the Waning Moon following the show’s success as part of last season’s Encuentro theater festival.

Who Really Wrote the Bible with Dr. William Schniedewind | Distinguished Lecture & Book Signing
SATURDAY | MAY 10 | 1:30 – 3 PM
NORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | DISTINGUISHED LECTURE & BOOK SIGNING
Presented by Dr. William Schniedewind, Professor of Biblical Studies at UCLA, and the Sady and Ludwig Kahn Director of the Alan D. Leve Center for Jewish Studies
Who really wrote the Bible? Its books have no bylines. Tradition has long identified Moses as the author of the Pentateuch, with Ezra as editor. Ancient readers suggested that David wrote the psalms and Solomon wrote Proverbs, but the Hebrew Bible rarely speaks of its authors. This lecture offers a bold new answer: the Bible was not written by a single author, or by a series of single authors, but by professional communities that used writing including “the sons of prophets” peripheral and central priests, the military, and government bureaucrats. Drawing on ancient inscriptions, archaeology, and anthropology, as well as a close reading of the biblical text itself, this lecture traces the communal origin of biblical literature.

Hellas
Spanning decades, and viewed over a single day, the birth of western civilization and democracy takes form in the Greek epic, Hellas.
Fridays at 7:30pm Part I on 4/18 and 5/2; Part II on 4/25 and 5/9. Saturday and Sundays at 2pm offer the complete saga (with three intermissions).

How to stand up to a dictator in seven performances: 24th Street Theatre revives its sublimely witty and provocative, award-winning production of La Razón Blindada (“Armored Reason”) for a limited three-weekend engagement in May.
