Culture Commons Festival — Eureka
The first Culture Commons Festival brings three days of music, art, film, dance, storytelling and food to venues across the Eureka Cultural Arts District.
Friday, September 25: 5pm to midnight
Saturday, September 26: 10am to 10pm
Sunday, September 27: 12pm to 8pm
Friday opens with Red Cedar, a Native percussion ensemble. Saturday brings a makers fair at Blue Ox Millworks, taiko and dance on the waterfront, a puppet parade to the Old Town Gazebo, and a drag runway show at the Clarke Museum. Sunday brings a Stories of Wigi celebration of storytellers, short films by North Coast filmmakers at the Eureka Theater, and square dancing and swing to close.

Join the Environmental Volunteers for a Fall BioBlitz in the Palo Alto Baylands Nature Preserve and Byxbee Park.
Fall is a wonderful time for migrating birds! Join us to learn about some of our native and non-native species, become a community scientist and help us collect scientific data.
Please bring a digital camera or smartphone. Download the free iNaturalist smartphone app prior to the program and create a free account prior to the event. Instructions on the Bioblitz and how to join the 2026 project will be sent prior to event, and will also be available a printed guide for the day of. Help the City of Palo Alto document the biodiversity of this great preserve.
We will have families check in at the EcoCenter and then embark to record as many plants and animals as possible. Volunteers will be on site to take small groups/families who would like to learn more about plants, insects, birds, or how to use iNaturalist.

On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all.
The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60.

Co-presented by Duniya Dance and Drum Company and the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, it’s a family-friendly celebration of live music and dance featuring Bay Area ensembles representing different regions of Africa and the African diaspora. Responding to the effects of drought, climate change, pollution, and the diversion of waterways, SJMA and SJ Climate Art has invited artists from the Bay Area, wider US, and abroad to present on projects they have developed which re-establish connections between humans and the water sources they rely on.
Artist-led, yet multidisciplinary in nature, presenters will discuss how they have collaborated with scientists, park rangers, activists, curators, historians, and more to realize their projects. These case studies reflect how crucial artistic tools and thinking are to reimagining and implementing alternatives to official systems. The second day of the symposium will be offsite, engaging directly with nearby waterway Coyote Creek.

About the Event
This year marks the 250-year anniversary of the arrival of the Anza Expedition. In 2026, many events across the Bay Area and beyond have commemorated the arrival of the Anza expedition, which led to the founding of the Presidio and Mission Dolores. The 2026 Kevin Starr lecture will explore the legacy of the expedition and its impact, addressing crucial issues, questions, conflicts, and perspectives that have persisted in the 250 years since Anza’s arrival. A distinguished panel of community-based researchers, scholars, and museum practitioners will examine not only how we view these complex interactions and events, but also how we interpret them in practical contexts such as K-12 schools, universities, historic sites, and museums.
The lecture will take place at the University of San Francisco. An in-person wine and cheese reception will start at 5:30 P.M.

Under the glow of gas lamps, boughs of holly and British flags, The Great Dickens Christmas Fair & Victorian Holiday Party returns to the historic Cow Palace for its 42nd season, running weekends November 21 through December 20, 2026.
Presented for five weekends, including the Friday after Thanksgiving, The Great Dickens Christmas Fair transforms over 140,000 square feet of the Cow Palace Exhibition Halls into an immersive recreation of Christmas Eve in Charles Dickens’ London.
From the moment visitors enter the environment of the Fair, the modern world gives way to bustling streets populated by hundreds of costumed characters: chimney sweeps and street vendors, sailors and shopkeepers, carolers and musicians, literary icons, colorful denizens of Victorian society — and, of course, Mr. Charles Dickens himself!

Enjoy Victorian holiday charm with caroling, holiday museum tours led by costumed docents, a keepsake mini-workshop, and more.
Catch the charm of the season and the uplifting voices of Lyric Theatre Victorian Carolers at the beautifully decorated museum home.
Meet costumed docents offering historical commentary and tours, make authentic Victorian-inspired keepsakes as you learn about the handmade decorating traditions of the era (open to all ages), and enjoy light refreshments and other special programming in this unique setting. Please stay tuned as we continue to expand our programming.
Should you wish to do so, guests are welcome to join us in Victorian (or Edwardian-inspired) garb. Please note that hoop skirts are not recommended due to interior space constraints.
