Embodying Emotion: a movement practice
We’ll begin by arriving together, grounding into the space and creating a shared container rooted in presence, respect, and curiosity. From there, you’ll be guided through a series of intuitive movement practices, exploring how emotions move through you, how they want to be expressed, and what happens when you allow them to shift and release.
You’ll move individually with opportunities to witness and be witnessed without pressure to perform, fix, or explain. This is about feeling, not getting it right.
No prior movement experience is needed. You’re always invited to move at your own pace or to rest at any point.
Led by Fontaine Foxworth, Founder at Plumea & Stanford Zouk Teacher
Fontaine is a longtime recreational dancer who has explored a wide range of partner and solo dance forms. She originally came to dance as a way to balance an overactive mind, and has since found movement to be one of the most powerful ways to process and move through emotion in the body. Fontaine is also the founder of Plumea,…

Opening Celebration | Motherboards and Christine Howard Sandoval: Move the Plot
You’re invited to the opening celebration of Motherboards and Christine Howard Sandoval: Move the Plot, two exhibitions that reveal the hidden labor and contributions connected to our region's innovative industries.
The opening celebration will feature music by Mild Monk and a special performance by Sarah Buckius at 6pm.
Sarah Buckius: If only she can cook as well as Honeywell can compute
Sarah Buckius’s If only she can cook as well as Honeywell can compute is a performance that reenacts Honeywell’s 1969 kitchen-computer ad, using a plushy reinvention to explore the intersection of technology, gender, and domestic labor. Through AI-generated instructions and playful irony, the piece spotlights both the limits and lure of automation and the enduring value of women’s work.

Feathered Field Sketch
Get to know your wild neighbors — the winged ones!
In this hands-on class, we’ll explore the fascinating birds of Lake Merritt and Oakland, from elegant egrets to bold black cormorants and busy little songbirds. A local naturalist will introduce us to who’s who in our local ecosystem — how they move, what makes their feathers unique, the patterns they wear, and the quirky behaviors that make each species special.
Then we’ll bring them to life on paper.
Using pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, and charcoal, students will experiment with different techniques to capture gesture, texture, pattern, and personality. We’ll practice quick observational sketches, study feather details, and create finished illustrations inspired by what we learn.
This class is all about sharpening your eye, loosening up your hand, and deepening your connection to the natural world right outside your door. Perfect for curious teens and adults who love art, nature, or both.
All skill levels welcome — just bring your curiosity!

A People's History of SFO: A Presentation by Dr. Eric Porter
A People's History of SFO: A Presentation by Dr. Eric Porter-Part of the Courthouse Docket Series
Think you know SFO? Think again. On Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. the San Mateo County History Museum welcomes Dr. Eric Porter of UC Santa Cruz for a fascinating look at one of the Bay Area's most iconic — and most overlooked — landmarks.
In his book A People's History of SFO: The Making of the Bay Area and an Airport, Porter goes far beyond flight schedules and terminal renovations. He uncovers the airport as a living, breathing reflection of the region itself — its politics, its environment, and the communities who have shaped it and been shaped by it. This is the story of a place most of us pass through without a second thought, told in a way that might make you stop and look a little longer the next time you're waiting at your gate.
Join us for what promises to be a thought-provoking and genuinely surprising afternoon.

The Weight of it All Opening Reception
Heron Arts is pleased to present The Weight of it All, a solo exhibition by Don Pendleton. The opening reception is April 25th, 2026, from 6-9 pm. It is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view by appointment only until May 30th.
The title, The Weight of it All, is a double entendre, alluding to the bold, heavy lines found in Don’s paintings and also the impact of political and cultural upheavals occurring worldwide. Don balances his linework for lighter color palettes chosen with emotion and aspiration to endure our current afflictions. The core of Don’s practice is documenting the human condition: how people manage to share space in the world, the potential for tension, disappointment, sadness, the pitfalls of relationships, the struggle to exist in a world where we cannot control the environments, and conditions we’re locked into. His visual journal showcased in this exhibition is a reflection of loss and grief and victory and defeat.

Calling Us In: An Invitation to Joy
Join us for a powerful new performance piece co-created by Sarah Crowell and the Skywatchers Ensemble.
Calling Us In: An Invitation to Joy begins at a San Francisco Tenderloin bus stop, where a chorus of neighbors—each carrying the invisible “backpacks” of lived experience—wait for a ride toward healing, belonging, and transformation. From this shared starting point, the performance unfolds as a multidisciplinary journey blending theater, poetry, and movement, rooted in the collective stories of the Tenderloin community.
Through song, humor, vulnerability, and raw storytelling, the piece creates moments of deep connection between performers and audience alike. As these stories emerge, Calling Us In challenges us to imagine a different kind of community—one where no one is invisible, every story matters, and belonging is not something we earn, but something we create together.
This is more than a performance—it is an invitation to witness, to feel, and to reimagine joy as an act of collective liberation.

This is that space.
