This holiday season, the one and only Great Dickens Christmas Fair & Victorian Holiday Party returns to transform the historic Cow Palace Exhibition Halls into Victorian London! This beloved Bay Area holiday tradition offers an immersive experience unlike any other, drawing visitors into a world where the page and stage intertwine as Charles Dickens’ marvelous imagination comes vividly to life. Five festive weekends only — Saturday, November 22 through Sunday, December 21, 2025, plus the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Now in its 41st season, The Great Dickens Christmas Fair continues to enchant generations with its sprawling recreation of 19th-century London, populated by hundreds of costumed characters from literature and history. Jack London State Historic Park will kick off the new year with their 13th Annual First Day Hike and a “Gentler Version” of the First Day Hike, both on January 1, 2026.
The traditional trek can be either a personal challenge to make it to the park summit (and a great photo op) or the first step in a commitment to a healthier new year.
The regular First Day hike to the top of Sonoma Mountain begins at 10 a.m. and will conclude at around 3 p.m. The roundtrip route is eight miles long and moderately strenuous.

A “Gentler Version” of the popular First Day Hike is also offered for those who prefer a shorter, less strenuous hike with plenty of opportunities to appreciate Mother Nature’s grandeur along the way.

Join us for a captivating journey into a forgotten chapter of San Mateo County history with underwater archaeologist Denise Jaffke, who will speak on the history of shore whaling along the California Coast on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at 1 p.m.
Denise will transport you back in time to when whale spouts dotted our horizon and bustling whaling stations operated right here in San Mateo County.
Jaffke, who is a member of the California State Parks Dive Team, will draw on recent archaeological surveys conducted by California State Parks and the University of California, which has focused on the remains of the whaling stations that once operated in this region including two in San Mateo County - - one at Pigeon Point and the other at Pillar Point.

The Saint Andrew’s Society of San Francisco proudly announces its 163rd Annual Burns Supper, to be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Marines’ Memorial Club. This long‑standing tradition honors the life and legacy of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national poet, whose words continue to resonate across cultures and generations.
The evening features the beloved hallmarks of a traditional Burns Supper: the Procession of the Haggis, a spirited recitation of Address to a Haggis, traditional Scottish fare, and the classic toasts — including the Immortal Memory, celebrating Burns’ enduring influence. Guests will enjoy music, poetry, and the unmistakable camaraderie that defines this annual gathering.
Burns’ poetry remains timeless because it speaks to universal human experiences — love, justice, friendship, and the dignity of ordinary people. His voice feels as urgent and alive today as it did in the 18th century.
