FREE Historic Walking Tours Throughout San Mateo County This Summer
Complementing its Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse, the San Mateo County History Museum is offering FREE walking tours throughout the Peninsula this summer. From Daly City to Pigeon Point, visit four cemeteries, a stable, six downtowns, one interesting residential area, a ranch, a dueling site, a slot machine collection, a lighthouse, and the Cow Palace.
Victorian Days is also a FREE event and features family activities that inform youngsters about life in the nineteenth century. It takes place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

Join TBArt Studio at Manny’s for Paint the Golden Gate at Sunset — a beginner-friendly Paint & Sip experience inspired by San Francisco’s most iconic view.
Professional artist and instructor Tetiana Blyzenko will guide guests step by step in creating their own Golden Gate sunset painting. No previous painting experience is required, all art materials are included, and everyone takes their finished canvas home.
The event will also feature a sunset-inspired photo area and a professional photographer. Professional photos will be available to order separately and are not included in the ticket price.

Complementing its Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse, the San Mateo County History Museum is offering FREE walking tours throughout the Peninsula this summer. From Daly City to Pigeon Point, visit four cemeteries, a stable, six downtowns, one interesting residential area, a ranch, a dueling site, a slot machine collection, a lighthouse, and the Cow Palace.
Victorian Days is also a FREE event and features family activities that inform youngsters about life in the nineteenth century. It takes place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

Celebrate Pride, science, and art with a hands-on tie dye workshop at The Tech Interactive. On Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. guests will explore how different plants can be used to create fabric dyes, then experiment with color, pattern, and design to make a vibrant creation of their own.
From bandanas to Pride flags, each participant will use plant-powered dyes to create a groovy rainbow-inspired design to take home. It is a playful way to connect creativity with chemistry, celebrate Pride, and discover how science can show up in every color.

On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all.
The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60.

About the Event
While other states slowly assimilated waves of immigrants in the 1800s, the Gold Rush produced a “Big Bang” of immigration from all over the world. A group of Chileans who embarked from Valparaiso were some of the first to arrive in San Francisco in 1849, driven by the discovery of gold. This presentation will focus on little-known events like the Chilean Wars in Northern California, which inspired the only play ever written by Chilean Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda; the connection between local icons Allen Ginsburg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti and the illustrious Chilean poet Fernando Alegría; the influx of Chilean exiles in the 1970s; and the works of local Chilean author Isabel Allende.

FREE Historic Walking Tours Throughout San Mateo County This Summer
Complementing its Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse, the San Mateo County History Museum is offering FREE walking tours throughout the Peninsula this summer. From Daly City to Pigeon Point, visit four cemeteries, a stable, six downtowns, one interesting residential area, a ranch, a dueling site, a slot machine collection, a lighthouse, and the Cow Palace.
Victorian Days is also a FREE event and features family activities that inform youngsters about life in the nineteenth century. It takes place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all.
The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60.

Complementing its Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse, the San Mateo County History Museum is offering FREE walking tours throughout the Peninsula this summer. From Daly City to Pigeon Point, visit four cemeteries, a stable, six downtowns, one interesting residential area, a ranch, a dueling site, a slot machine collection, a lighthouse, and the Cow Palace.
Victorian Days is also a FREE event and features family activities that inform youngsters about life in the nineteenth century. It takes place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

In July, the organization officially served its 30 millionth meal. The milestone reflects more than four decades of nourishing Bay Area neighbors living with serious illness, food insecurity, isolation, and the challenges of aging through nutritious, medically tailored meals and compassionate care.

Complementing its Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse, the San Mateo County History Museum is offering FREE walking tours throughout the Peninsula this summer. From Daly City to Pigeon Point, visit four cemeteries, a stable, six downtowns, one interesting residential area, a ranch, a dueling site, a slot machine collection, a lighthouse, and the Cow Palace.
Victorian Days is also a FREE event and features family activities that inform youngsters about life in the nineteenth century. It takes place from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 8.

On Saturdays from Sept. 5 to Oct. 3, Jack London State Historic Park’s WILD Trail Challenge returns for a third year. This series of five hikes covers every trail in the park for a total of 39.5 miles. The hikes increase in duration and/or difficulty each week. Participants can sign up for individual hikes or do them all.
The price for each hike is $15. The park entry fee of $15 per vehicle is waived for these hikes. Those who sign up for all five hikes before Sept. 5 save 20 percent and pay only $60.

Rancho Day Fiesta: FREE Event
On Saturday September 19 from 12 – 4 p.m. the San Mateo County Historical Association’s docents at the Sánchez Adobe present their annual Rancho Day Fiesta, a FREE family activity day. The Adobe is located at 1000 Linda Mar Boulevard in Pacifica. Take a trip back to the 1840s when Don Francisco Sánchez raised cattle for the hide-and-tallow trade at his Rancho San Pedro.
A living history event, visitors will be invited to make adobe bricks, stamp leather, dip candles, make core husk dolls, churn butter, and participate in other rancho-era activities, including learning how to dance as the early Californios did.

For nearly half a century, the name Roy Brizio has been synonymous with exceptional craftsmanship, innovation and the enduring culture of the American hot rod.
Born in San Francisco in 1956, Roy grew up immersed in the world of hot rods and drag racing. His father, the late hot-rod legend Andy Brizio, taught Roy the skills of welding and fabrication and brought him along to his shop and the adjacent Champions Speed Shop. By high school, Roy was taking auto, metal and machining classes—and already owned an extraordinary ’32 Ford Coupe.
In 1977, Roy founded Roy Brizio Street Rods, beginning in a corner of Champion Speed Shop. Just two years later, he opened his own shop in South San Francisco. Through exceptional craftsmanship and a growing renaissance in the street-rod industry, Roy’s business became one of the most respected names in the world of custom cars.

Interpreting 250 Years Since the Anza Expedition
About the Event
This year marks the 250-year anniversary of the arrival of the Anza Expedition. In 2026, many events across the Bay Area and beyond have commemorated the arrival of the Anza expedition, which led to the founding of the Presidio and Mission Dolores. The 2026 Kevin Starr lecture will explore the legacy of the expedition and its impact, addressing crucial issues, questions, conflicts, and perspectives that have persisted in the 250 years since Anza’s arrival. A distinguished panel of community-based researchers, scholars, and museum practitioners will examine not only how we view these complex interactions and events, but also how we interpret them in practical contexts such as K-12 schools, universities, historic sites, and museums.
The lecture will take place at the University of San Francisco. An in-person wine and cheese reception will start at 5:30 P.M.

Walk with a Naturalist
Join Shelby Hendricks, group tour and family programs manager, for an observation-based exploration of works currently on view through the lenses of art and science.
These cross-disciplinary tours invite visitors to engage with artworks in unexpected ways, bringing a more-than-human dimension to scientific ideas while deepening our emotional connection to the environment.
Join us for an observation-based exploration of a small ocean swallowed.
Through close looking and guided discussion, participants will consider how the artists envision water as a model of interconnectivity and reimagine the entwined relationship between humans and the bodies of water that surround us.
Registration Information
Walk with a Naturalist is free with Museum admission and open to visitors of all ages.
