Claude VonStroke @ Circle of Palms
Circle of Palms — home to California’s first state capital — sets the stage for a first-of-its-kind day-to-night gathering in the heart of downtown San Jose.
Framed by a ring of palms and surrounded by the city’s cultural core, the space carries a sense of occasion that’s hard to ignore. On June 13, it shifts into something else — a carefully built outdoor setting shaped by sound, light, and the people in it, delivered with uncompromising production and a carefully curated lineup.
Headlining the evening is Claude VonStroke for his only Bay Area appearance this summer, and his first time ever performing at Circle of Palms Plaza. Long recognized as one of the defining names in house music, he arrives back in San Jose for a special open-air set in a setting unlike anything else on the local calendar.
Curated by It’s a Journey, the focus is simple: the right music, the right setting, and an atmosphere that speaks for itself.
Circle of Palms, reimagined for one night.

Opening Reception: Listening To The Wild by Teal Collins & Shaney Fago at Usher Gallery
Usher Gallery presents featured artist Teal Collins alongside Shaney Fago in an exhibition exploring intuition, expression, and connection. A self-taught visual artist and lifelong recording singer/songwriter and performing musician, Collins works in acrylic and oil on canvas (some mixed media), blending wildlife imagery with abstract florals and expressive color. Her paintings are intended as visual examples of a **peaceful, restorative view—a soft place to fall—**offering connection to the quieter, gentler aspects of life within an overstimulating world. In contrast and dialogue, Shaney Fago’s work focuses on portraiture and music, capturing emotional presence and musical energy through gesture and mood. Together, the artists create a visual conversation between nature, sound, and human expression.
This joint showcase, "Listening to the Wild," fuses sweeping West Coast wildlife and landscapes with the high-voltage nostalgia of GenX analog culture.
The evening will feature fine wine, local refreshments, liv…

The Marsh Berkeley presents Carole Klyce’s “Flight Risk”
After being orphaned at 11 years old, Carole Klyce spent her adolescence running. Now, The Marsh Berkeley presents her riveting journey as a runaway in Klyce’s debut stage production, Flight Risk. Labeled “incorrigible,” young Carole lived life on the lam, from fleeing a group foster home to escaping from a juvenile correction facility. A child at large throughout New Jersey, Carole sports many names and takes on a male identity for safety, working restaurants, fields, and with the Italian mob to support herself. Throughout her journey she is cared for by unlikely mentors, including a gruff Italian ex-con chef, a retired Las Vegas showgirl, and the only Black man in a rural town. Flight Risk chronicles the six years that Carole spent self-educating and surviving by the skin of her teeth. Central Works founding member and associate artist Deb Fink directs.

Book Signing: “The Man Beneath the Paint: California Impressionist Tilden Daken” by Bonnie Portnoy
Celebrate the shared 150th anniversary of two extraordinary figures in early California history; Jack London and his friend Tilden Daken (1876-1935), one of the most adventurous painters in the American West.
Join author Bonnie Portnoy on June 14, 2026 from noon to 3:00 p.m. for a special book signing on the 150th birthday of Tilden Daken, her grandfather, at Jack London State Historic Park in the historic House of Happy Walls.
Born in 1876—the same year as Jack London—Daken shared a spirit of adventure that carried the two men across the American West, including early days riding the rails together. Following the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, Daken settled in Glen Ellen, where his life and artistic career became deeply intertwined with the Sonoma Valley landscape—and with London’s enduring legacy.
“The Man Beneath the Paint” presents an intimate portrait of Tilden Daken as both artist and adventurer and features more than 250 illustrations of his California paintings. The book also offers vivid, little-…

Nina Wise’s What Just Happened?
In What Just Happened, Nina Wise in her signature style builds an improvised performance from the personal and political events which have transpired over the previous 24 hours. Nina originally performed this piece at The Marsh in San Francisco in 2009 and The Marsh Berkeley in 2010 to a sold out audience and received standing ovations and has gone on to perform WJH worldwide. Nina’s work is extremely funny, inspiring comparisons to Lily Tomlin and Feiffer’s cartoons, and also surprisingly poignant. Audiences repeatedly report that they are at one instant laughing so hard they are falling off their seats and the next moment, moved to tears.

The Visionaries Writing Contest by Inkitt
$10,000 prize & movie adaptation for the best biography of a Silicon Valley legend.
Some of the most fascinating lives of our time belong to the architects of Silicon Valley: the college dropouts, the rebels, the obsessives who rewired how we live, work, and connect.
Inkitt invites you to craft a biographical narrative inspired by a visionary of the modern era. Your story doesn't need to be a novel — it can be a short story, an interpretation, or a close-to-fact portrait of a life that shaped our world. Think The Social Network, not a Wikipedia entry. The deadline to submit is July 31, 2026 at 11:59pm.
The Grand Prize: $10,000 & a feature film adaptation.
Inkitt is looking for a compelling, cinematic biography of a real or thinly fictionalized tech founder — including their origin story, obsessions, failures, and what drove them to change everything. Biopic, founder drama, tech origin story, docudrama, and historical fiction are all welcome. Any writer, anywhere in the world, may enter.

Social Media Prom
Social Media Prom is returning to San Francisco after a 16-year hiatus for one unforgettable night inside the historic Savoy Tivoli in North Beach.
Originally launched in 2010 during the early days of Facebook, Tumblr, and blogging culture, the event was created to bring internet friends together in real life, before the “creator economy” even had a name. Now, in a world exhausted by algorithms and endless scrolling, Social Media Prom returns as a celebration of offline connection, creativity, nostalgia, and community.
Guests are encouraged to dress like it’s the prom they wish they had, or the one they absolutely should not have attended. Think overdressed, dramatic, cinematic, vintage, glamorous, chaotic, or weirdly emotional. This is not a costume party. It’s a love letter to getting dressed up and actually leaving the house.
The evening will feature:
• A live Prom Court voted on throughout the night
• DJs and nostalgic dance floor energy
• Photo moments and surprise activations
• Curated gift bags for…

Johnny Lonely & Joshua Raoul Brody’s The Saddest Night of Musical Entertainment in the History of the World
Johnny Lonely, matchless torch singer, is convinced that the reason his career hasn’t taken off is because his “Unhappy Hour” isn’t gloomy enough. But since his girlfriend just dumped him, tonight’s audition at “The Nowhere to Go but Up Club,” is his perfect chance to debut The Saddest Night of Musical Entertainment in the History of the World. His accompanist, Raoul, sees this as a professional dumpster fire, and sabotages Johnny’s plans by throwing in happy songs, sharing mindfulness tips and changing minor keys to major ones. Like Daffy Duck being tortured by Bugs Bunny, Johnny eventually loses his mind, which might be what his audience wanted the act to be all along.
The show incorporates both classic torch songs and original jazz and blues tunes by Johnny Lonely. An early version of this show, Johnny Lonely’s Unhappy Hour, was first performed on “Blue Mondays,” at the Paradise Lounge, in San Francisco, in 1987. Using a mixture of original songs in the vein of jazz standards with sad pop song cove…

A festival for anyone who loves scent, whether you are a lifelong collector or simply curious. Its rarest draw is the Osmotheque, the world's largest perfume archive, here from Versailles for the very first time in the United States. These originals survive only at the Osmotheque, so this is your chance to smell them as they truly were. Around it, the exhibitors represent more than 110 fragrance houses, from well-known premium brands to small, up-and-coming artisan makers.

ScentFest SF: The First West Coast Consumer Fragrance Festival, June 26-28, Fort Mason Center
A festival for anyone who loves scent, whether you are a lifelong collector or simply curious. Its rarest draw is the Osmotheque, the world's largest perfume archive, here from Versailles for the very first time in the United States. It is bringing 25 perfumes it has faithfully reconstructed from their original formulas, spanning nearly 4,000 years from Kyphi, the sacred scent of ancient Egypt, into the twentieth century, including the original 1921 Chanel No. 5, surprisingly different from the version sold today. These originals survive only at the Osmotheque, so this is your chance to smell them as they truly were. Around it, the exhibitors represent more than 110 fragrance houses, from well-known premium brands to small, up-and-coming artisan makers. Across the floor you will find the people who bring these scents to life: founders, brand experts who know every note, the creative directors who shepherd a fragrance's vision and story from first idea to final formula, and, in some cases, the perfumers who co…

Voyage to Paradiso— The Divine Light Party
VOYAGE TO PARADISO — The Divine Light Party is an immersive, Independence Day sunset cruise experience and the second major pop-up event of 2026 from Dante Buckley, the visionary behind Dante’s Inferno. This one-night-only celebration serves as an exclusive first look at Paradiso, the highly anticipated rooftop concept from Dante’s Inferno, ahead of its 2027 opening. Envisioned as the lighter, heavenly counterpart to Inferno, the ground-level supper club, Paradiso channels an elevated, escapist energy, blending the feel of an island getaway, a rooftop party, and a private members’ club.
While Paradiso will eventually live above Inferno, Voyage to Paradiso brings that world to life on the water, transforming The Belle, a multi-level vessel cruising the San Francisco Bay, into a floating preview of the concept. Mendocino Dog Park Benefit Bake Sale on July 5
Mendocino Dog Park Benefit Bake Sale on July 5
The annual Mendocino Dog Park benefit bake sale will take place on Sunday, July 5, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Three tables set up outside Harvest at Mendosa’s at 10501 Lansing Street in Mendocino will showcase locally made delectables, including gluten-free options, with all proceeds donated to the Mendocino Dog Park.
Gwen Seymour, co-founder (with Scott Shepley) of the park as currently configured, notes that the bake sale has become a local favorite, with people sometimes waiting in advance of opening to enjoy the best selection.
The Mendocino Dog Park, since 2021, has been welcoming locals and visitors to enjoy two beautiful fenced play areas, one for large dogs and one for small or shy pups. Both foster free-play and socialization opportunities for dogs, while helping to develop stronger community ties for “doggo parents.” The Park is located at 998 School Street on the grounds of the Community Center of Mendocino.

Festival Napa Valley Presents LMR Jazz Orchestra
The LMR Jazz Orchestra returns to Festival Napa Valley with A Vanguard Legacy, a tribute to the groundbreaking Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, whose weekly performances at New York’s Village Vanguard reshaped modern big-band jazz.
The evening is led by trumpet legend Jon Faddis, who joins the orchestra as both guest conductor and featured soloist. Faddis served as lead trumpeter of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra in the early 1970s beginning at just 18, bringing a direct and vibrant link to the ensemble’s storied history. Vocalist Jamie Davis appears in the celebrated baritone role long associated with Joe Williams, revisiting repertoire from the orchestra’s landmark recordings.
From the driving pulse of “Low Down” to the enduring lyricism of “A Child Is Born,” the program highlights the sophistication, swing, and daring that defined a jazz institution, and keeps its spirit very much alive.

Merola Opera Program presents “La Tragédie de Carmen”
San Francisco’s acclaimed Merola Opera Program, one of the world’s most prestigious opera training programs, continues its 2026 season with “La Tragédie de Carmen.” This condensed, stark adaptation of Bizet’s Carmen, created by Peter Brook, Jean-Claude Carrière, and Marius Constant, presents the opera in a raw and psychologically intense form. Two Merola alumnae, Conductor Stephanie Rhodes Russell (’09) and Director Mo Zhou (’15), lead this production, which focuses on the gripping tension between Carmen’s insistence on absolute freedom and Don José’s obsessive control. Prioritizing emotional intensity and inevitability over spectacle, the performance unfolds as an intimate tragedy driven by desire, jealousy, and fate. La Tragédie de Carmen will be performed in French with English supertitles. This production is presented by arrangement with Boosey & Hawkes, Inc. Sole Agent in the U.S. Canada, and Mexico for Editions Salabert, a Universal Music Publishing Group company, publisher, and copyright owner.

An early version of this show, Johnny Lonely’s Unhappy Hour, was first performed on “Blue Mondays,” at the Paradise Lounge, in San Francisco, in 1987. Using a mixture of original songs in the vein of jazz standards with sad pop song cove…
