Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) will celebrate its guide dog team graduates every other Saturday with public graduation ceremonies at the organization’s campus in San Rafael. These touching public events have inspired tears in even the most stoic audience members, as graduating guide dog teams proudly take the stage. Families are welcome at the ceremonies, which honor the independence and companionship that GDB’s guide dogs provide for GDB’s clients who are blind or visually impaired. The events also allow GDB’s clients to meet the puppy raisers who cared for their canine heroes prior to beginning formal training at GDB’s campus. Ceremonies also recognize recent graduates of GDB’s Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Program, K9 Buddy Program, and Breeder Dog Program.
Admission is free, and Kleenex will be provided. Pre-registered bus groups are welcome. Public tours of the campus are offered on the days of the ceremonies. Visit www.guidedogs.com for more information. Graduation events are also livestreamed at http…

The Marsh Berkeley presents “Looking For Justice (In All the Wrong Places)”
Lawyer and retired judge Amy Oppenheimer brings her solo performance debut “Looking for Justice (In All the Wrong Places)” to The Marsh Berkeley after five decades in the making. In conjunction with the run, Oppenheimer partners with a rotating slate of nonprofit organizations for post-show audience talkbacks, every performance spotlighting a different cause to which funds will be donated. “Looking for Justice (In All the Wrong Places)” shares experiences now safely past the statute of limitations, taking audiences through the formative years of Oppenheimer’s trailblazing career protecting people from harassment and discrimination, as the pursuit of justice in the courtroom mirrors her own awakening as a lesbian feminist. Anchored by a defining early case, the show unfolds through a riveting, recursive narrative that moves between sharp, fast-paced punditry and disarming, heartfelt humor. Throughout, Oppenheimer reckons with what justice truly looks like in an unjust world.

National AI Literacy Day Summit at The Tech Interactive: AI in Education: Unlocking Possibilities, Avoiding Pitfalls
At the third annual National AI Literacy Day Summit at The Tech Interactive, attendees will grapple with the theme of AI in Education: Unlocking Possibilities, Avoiding Pitfalls.
AI is already transforming education. A crucial question remains: How can we actively shape outcomes rather than passively accepting what emerges?
While AI has the opportunity to address long standing inequities and educational challenges, it also has the potential to amplify existing problems and create new ones. Across panel discussions, a fireside chat, and breakout sessions, attendees will be in dialogue with national experts and each other, digging into questions of what becomes possible with AI, what we risk, who benefits, and who could get left behind.
Given the possibilities and pitfalls, what will it take to develop the critical capacity necessary for nuanced decision-making about when and how to use AI in education?

San Mateo County's Rowdy Beginnings
Ballot Box stuffing, voter intimidation, bribed public officials - that does not sound like San Mateo County, does it? On the contrary, join Mitch Postel, President of the San Mateo County Historical Association, as he gives an account of our county's first election in the spring of 1856. It all happened before the people of the sparsely settled Peninsula even had a hint of what was taking place. A major portion of the drama took place near Woodside at the Crystal Springs Hotel. It required San Francisco vigilantes and a core of local honest citizens, like Dr. R. O. Tripp and Gaza Haraszthy, to straighten things out.

Feathered Field Sketch
Get to know your wild neighbors — the winged ones!
In this hands-on class, we’ll explore the fascinating birds of Lake Merritt and Oakland, from elegant egrets to bold black cormorants and busy little songbirds. A local naturalist will introduce us to who’s who in our local ecosystem — how they move, what makes their feathers unique, the patterns they wear, and the quirky behaviors that make each species special.
Then we’ll bring them to life on paper.
Using pencil, pen and ink, watercolor, and charcoal, students will experiment with different techniques to capture gesture, texture, pattern, and personality. We’ll practice quick observational sketches, study feather details, and create finished illustrations inspired by what we learn.
This class is all about sharpening your eye, loosening up your hand, and deepening your connection to the natural world right outside your door. Perfect for curious teens and adults who love art, nature, or both.
All skill levels welcome — just bring your curiosity!

A People's History of SFO: A Presentation by Dr. Eric Porter
A People's History of SFO: A Presentation by Dr. Eric Porter-Part of the Courthouse Docket Series
Think you know SFO? Think again. On Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. the San Mateo County History Museum welcomes Dr. Eric Porter of UC Santa Cruz for a fascinating look at one of the Bay Area's most iconic — and most overlooked — landmarks.
In his book A People's History of SFO: The Making of the Bay Area and an Airport, Porter goes far beyond flight schedules and terminal renovations. He uncovers the airport as a living, breathing reflection of the region itself — its politics, its environment, and the communities who have shaped it and been shaped by it. This is the story of a place most of us pass through without a second thought, told in a way that might make you stop and look a little longer the next time you're waiting at your gate.
Join us for what promises to be a thought-provoking and genuinely surprising afternoon.
