Artist Reception: Akiko Suzuki, Songs of a Little Bird
Join us at NY2CA Gallery for the Artist Reception for Songs of a Little Bird, a solo exhibition by internationally recognized fiber artist Akiko Suzuki.
The Artist reception will take place Saturday, July 18 from 5–7pm and will feature Performance Art by Akiko Suzuki.
Songs of a Little Bird presents Suzuki’s richly layered textile and mixed-media works, bringing together contemporary art quilting, poetry, stitching, paint, collage, and intuitive mark-making. Her practice bridges visual art, written language, memory, and emotion, giving form to the unseen forces that shape inner experience.
As part of the exhibition, Suzuki presents HOPE DRESS, a performance and video work created in collaboration with music by Kuniyoshi Yamada and filmed at Palazzo Ferrari in Parabita, Italy during the Global Art Project residency in May 2026.

The gesture is simple and deeply human.…

Johnny Lonely & Joshua Raoul Brody’s The Saddest Night of Musical Entertainment in the History of the World
Johnny Lonely, matchless torch singer, is convinced that the reason his career hasn’t taken off is because his “Unhappy Hour” isn’t gloomy enough. But since his girlfriend just dumped him, tonight’s audition at “The Nowhere to Go but Up Club,” is his perfect chance to debut The Saddest Night of Musical Entertainment in the History of the World. His accompanist, Raoul, sees this as a professional dumpster fire, and sabotages Johnny’s plans by throwing in happy songs, sharing mindfulness tips and changing minor keys to major ones. Like Daffy Duck being tortured by Bugs Bunny, Johnny eventually loses his mind, which might be what his audience wanted the act to be all along.
The show incorporates both classic torch songs and original jazz and blues tunes by Johnny Lonely. An early version of this show, Johnny Lonely’s Unhappy Hour, was first performed on “Blue Mondays,” at the Paradise Lounge, in San Francisco, in 1987. Using a mixture of original songs in the vein of jazz standards with sad pop song cove…

The Visionaries Writing Contest by Inkitt
$10,000 prize & movie adaptation for the best biography of a Silicon Valley legend.
Some of the most fascinating lives of our time belong to the architects of Silicon Valley: the college dropouts, the rebels, the obsessives who rewired how we live, work, and connect.
Inkitt invites you to craft a biographical narrative inspired by a visionary of the modern era. Your story doesn't need to be a novel — it can be a short story, an interpretation, or a close-to-fact portrait of a life that shaped our world. Think The Social Network, not a Wikipedia entry. The deadline to submit is July 31, 2026 at 11:59pm.
The Grand Prize: $10,000 & a feature film adaptation.
Inkitt is looking for a compelling, cinematic biography of a real or thinly fictionalized tech founder — including their origin story, obsessions, failures, and what drove them to change everything. Biopic, founder drama, tech origin story, docudrama, and historical fiction are all welcome. Any writer, anywhere in the world, may enter.

Josh Kornbluth’s What Is To Be Done?: Fighting Fascism and Depression
For over 35 years, Josh Kornbluth has developed his monologues through a series of improvisations — often at The Marsh. What’s currently on, and in, his mind are the related subjects of fascism and depression. For over seven months last year, he was mired in a deep depression. At the same time, our country had begun rapidly descending into fascism. So Josh found himself in a Resistance on at least two levels: against MAGA’s depredations, and against attacks from within his own psyche. And the struggle continues! Can he help save our democracy even as he tries to pull himself together? Will he have to perform these improvs from a psychiatrist’s couch? What Is To Be Done? is a work in (and of) progress.

Merola Opera Program presents “Ariadne auf Naxos”
San Francisco’s acclaimed Merola Opera Program, one of the world’s most prestigious opera training programs, continues its 2026 season with its penultimate production, the serio-comic “Ariadne auf Naxos.” Composed by Richard Strauss and conducted by Ann-Katrin Stöcker with stage direction by Omer Ben Seadia (Merola ’14), this piece blends mythological tragedy with comic opera. Framed as a show within a show, the opera takes a delightfully serious look at happiness, despair, and love, showcasing the talented Merola emerging artists. Celebrated for its inventive structure, virtuosic vocal writing, and seamless fusion of contrasting styles, the work holds an important place in the operatic canon as a sophisticated meditation on the relationship between art, emotion, and theatrical form. The opera will be performed in German with English supertitles.

The Bumpy Road Less Traveled begins at AJ's first day of kindergarten, sharing what life in beautiful Hermosa Beach, Southern California, looks and sounds like through his young eyes—sharing the intimate dreams of his family's progressive hopes. A horrific tragedy strikes, forever changing two families' trajectories. We witness what horrors lie in wait behind the walls of California's prison industrial complex.

International Sex Club Party Girl’s I Didn’t Manifest This
In Spring 2022, a middle-aged San Francisco woman decided to prove she was enough just as she was by doing less to find love. When the universe responded by offering a compelling Tinder match, international travel, and sex clubs, she perceived it as an opportunity to practice setting boundaries. She said yes to the match, no to the sex clubs and international travel, and waited for the universe to reward her for doing absolutely nothing extra to secure anyone’s attention and adoration.
The universe had other ideas.
I Didn’t Manifest This is the story of how she became an International Sex Club Party Girl anyway.
