ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
Gain valuable skills using appropriate resources, tools and scientific language to overcome common challenges in plant identification. Through lecture, discussions and hands-on activities, Emeritus professor Shawna Martinez will show you how to identify native plants and to see botanical relationships. You’ll practice using dichotomous keys and be trained to recognize the characteristics so you can identify the most common plant families. This series is a partnership with the Redbud Chapter of the California Native Plant Society and Sierra College’s Natural History Museum.

In 1942, Executive Order 9066 called for the forced removal and incarceration of every person of Japanese ancestry –citizens and noncitizens alike– from California, Oregon and Washington.
Sierra College Emeritus Professors Rebecca Gregg and Tom Fillebrown with the Still Standing Guard Group will examine the background and enduring impact of that history on our community as reflected in Standing Guard and Still Standing Guard published by Sierra College Press.
