Jessica Kreutter | Collapse is Alchemy

Jessica Kreutter is an artist whose practice centers on themes of embodiment, memory, transformation, and humanity’s entanglement with the natural world. Grounded in material awareness and a deep sense of place, her recent work reflects on cycles of presence and return, considering the body as temporary, porous, and inseparable from the earth and its histories. Working primarily in porcelain, Kreutter creates hand-built forms that exist in states of transition. Her objects blur boundaries between reality and fantasy, beauty and discomfort, containment and fragmentation. Influenced by architectural ornamentation and domestic objects, her sculptures incorporate disrupted borders and interwoven elements that evoke experiences of grief, ecstasy, spiritual connection, and deep emotional transformation. Composed of many individually constructed parts assembled during firing or installation, Kreutter’s work functions as a conduit for memory and imagination. Through these evolving forms, she invites viewers to… Saturday, February 21, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Kamaria Shepherd | Pretty. PreacHer. Hypocrite?

Pretty. PreacHer. Hypocrite? is an installation that gives dimension to the many lives, dimensions, timelines, and alternate realities of visual artist, writer, and professor, Kamaria Shepherd. Shepherd explores these iterations of herself in her working novel titled, “Life of a So-Called Texas PreacHer” which is an experimental novel of personal narrative, oral family histories, poetry, and auto-fiction. The novel uses infinite iterations of "Kamarias" to spring from a fertility clinic in Los Angeles between experiences of moving home to Houston and “back home” to Grapeland, Texas. Shepherd's installation is a movement through self-portraiture as a visual and literary language through paintings and excerpts from her novel. Saturday, February 21, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Houston City College Spring Branch Campus Art Gallery 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway North Main Building, RM 104 Houston TX 77043. For more info visit hcc.idloom.events.

The work is presented by Maryam Esfahani, whose role as a part-time graphic designer in the Visual Arts Department informs her creative practice. Saturday, February 21, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. HCC Faculty Recital | Echoes and Explorations: Rare Gems for Saxophone and Piano

Dr. Woody Witt (alto saxophone)  Melisa Gültan (piano)  Assisted by  Glen Ackerman (bass) and J.D. Guzman (drums)  __________________________________________________________________________________________, Program notes    This duo recital with pianist Melisa Gültan has been a long-form collaboration. We began rehearsing this program seven months ago, allowing the music time to settle, evolve, and reveal its character. That length of preparation reflects how we approach music—patiently, deliberately, and with respect for its depth.    While there is no improvisation in the program, each work draws deeply from jazz-influenced rhythmic and harmonic language. Three of the composers—Nikolai Kapustin, Chick Corea, and Joe LoCascio—are jazz pianists whose concert works naturally bridge stylistic worlds. Their music speaks fluently in both classical and jazz dialects without needing to announce the distinction.    Joe LoCascio’s Sonata receives its world premiere on this program. Chick Corea’s… Saturday, February 21, 2026, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM. HCC Heinen Theatre 3517 Austin St. Houston, TX 77004. For more info visit hcc.idloom.events.

Through these evolving forms, she invites viewers to… Sunday, March 1, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Sunday, March 1, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Houston City College Spring Branch Campus Art Gallery 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway North Main Building, RM 104 Houston TX 77043. For more info visit hcc.idloom.events.

Pretty. PreacHer. Hypocrite? is an installation that gives dimension to the many lives, dimensions, timelines, and alternate realities of visual artist, writer, and professor, Kamaria Shepherd. Sunday, March 8, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Houston City College Spring Branch Campus Art Gallery 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway North Main Building, RM 104 Houston TX 77043. For more info visit hcc.idloom.events.

Through these evolving forms, she invites viewers to… Monday, March 9, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Through these evolving forms, she invites viewers to… Tuesday, March 17, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.

Tuesday, March 17, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Houston City College Spring Branch Campus Art Gallery 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway North Main Building, RM 104 Houston TX 77043. For more info visit hcc.idloom.events.

Tuesday, March 24, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Houston City College Spring Branch Campus Art Gallery 1010 West Sam Houston Parkway North Main Building, RM 104 Houston TX 77043. For more info visit hcc.idloom.events.

Through these evolving forms, she invites viewers to… Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
