Energy Law Lecture Series- Guest Speaker Courtney Hjaltman -Commissioner, Public Utility Commission of Texas

Energy Law Lecture Series presents Courtney Hjaltman, Commissioner, Public Commission of Texas Monday March 2nd in the Lanier Auditorium at noon.  Commissioner Hjaltman was confirmed by the Texas Senate in 2025. Hjaltman previously served as the chief executive and public counsel for the Office of Public Utility Counsel (OPUC). At OPUC, she led the agency's representation of residential and small commercial customers in proceedings before the PUCT, State Office of Administrative Hearings, state courts, and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). Hjaltman has extensive policy experience including in the electric, water, and telecommunication industries and has worked for the State of Texas in a variety of roles throughout her career. Terry Grantham Memorial Guest Lecturer is in honor of Terry Grantham. A devoted community member, Terry received his law degree from Texas Tech University in 1982. He was a partner at Craig, Terrill, Hale & Grantham where he specialized in real estate and oil and gas law. He joined Texas Tech School of Law as an adjunct professor and owned West Texas Title Company. Terry served on several boards including the Texas Association of Abstractors and Title Agents as President in 2000-2001. As well as the Texas Land Title Association President in 2003-2004. Dr. Dean Foreman is Chief Economist for the Texas Oil & Gas Association and a nationally recognized expert on energy economics, market design, and infrastructure strategy. Loewy Lecture-"Ethics in the digital age -Legal Counsel in an Era of Disruptive Technologies”

Please join us for this Springs Loewy Lecture April 20th in the Lanier Auditorium at Noon.   Arnold Loewy was the first professor to hold the Texas Tech School of Law's new George R. Killam Jr. Chair of Criminal Law; Loewy initiated a series of annual symposiums in the area of criminal law or criminal procedure. In addition to his work on the annual symposiums, Loewy taught a Supreme Court seminar and courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and the First Amendment. TTU School of Law established a lecture series in honor of Professor Loewy's tremendous contributions to the field of criminal law and to Texas Tech University School of Law following his passing in 2021.
