CAFO Workshop Series

UW–Madison Division of Extension and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are jointly hosting a set of eight in-person/virtual workshops for CAFO permit holders, key employees, livestock producers, their employees and agronomic and engineering consultants around Wisconsin in late January / early February. Designed for producers and their key employees with (or considering) WPDES CAFO permits, their consultants, and agency staff, the workshops will focus on several themes: Preventing common issues with permit renewals/applications , Nutrient management policy updates , Permitting process updates, In addition to DNR staff addressing these and other topics, each location will feature a farmer/agronomist panel focusing on manure hauling/recordkeeping and a research update on addressing common cause of manure spills. Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Short Course 2026

The Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Short Course is for landscape professionals to learn up-to-date, science-based information. The short course is offered online via Zoom. Classes are held on Wednesday afternoons in February, from 1 pm-3:30 pm. There are two speakers for each session date and you can choose to register for all four sessions or selected weekly sessions. If attending all four sessions, the cost is $60, each selected weekly session is $25. Milk Quality from the Udder World - Trainer Certification Program

Milk Quality from the Udder World is a certification program that builds confident, effective trainers who can lead their teams to implement best practices. Participants learn how to explain the why behind each step of the milking routine, coach teams to work consistently, and develop the skills needed to prevent mastitis and produce high-quality milk. Holding Ground, Letting Go: A guided approach to farm transition and legacy

Foxhead Regenerative Agriculture Project (FoxRAP), in partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension, Renewing the Countryside, and Southwest Counseling, is launching a no-cost pilot program to help aging farmers navigate the technical and emotional complexities of a farm transition. The project, titled Holding Ground, Letting Go: A guided approach to farm transition and legacy supports farmers aged 58+ in east central Wisconsin. The pilot program is seeking participation from 30 producers aged 58 and older in the Upper Fox River watershed, which includes Green Lake County and Fond Du Lac County. Any other nearby farmers who are interested in farm transition planning are encouraged to attend, whether or not they have identified successors. Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Short Course 2026

The Landscape and Grounds Maintenance Short Course is for landscape professionals to learn up-to-date, science-based information. The short course is offered online via Zoom. Hired farm managers play a crucial role on diversified vegetable farms. While having their production, maintenance, and organizational skills dialed in is a major part of the job, farm managers do so much more. Seed-Starting Class

This in-person class for adults features a lecture on starting seeds of vegetable and flower seeds, followed by a hands-on session in the Dane County Extension greenhouse where you can practice techniques learned in class and leave with up to a flat of vegetable and flower seeds. The class addresses how to best start seeds (indoors or outdoors) and grow healthy seedlings to be transplanted using proper media, media temperature, water, and lighting. The class allows the audience to gain greater success in seed-starting and maintaining healthy, robust seedlings that perform better in the garden and lead to better productivity of food crops and flowers.
