Encaustic and Collage with Leslie Giuliani
In this class, we’ll explore the ancient yet contemporary medium of Encaustic—beeswax-based paint that also serves as a versatile adhesive—to create unique collages. This technique is wonderfully flexible: if you’re not happy with an arrangement, simply re-melt and re-position. Participants will learn how to build richly layered artworks using Encaustic as “glue,” incorporating fabric, stencils, prints, personal drawings, even Spirograph designs! We’ll also experiment with laser copy transfers and direct drawing. No prior experience is necessary, and all materials are included.
Leslie Giuliani is an American contemporary artist whose work merges textiles, encaustic, oil painting, and printmaking. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she earned her BFA from the University of Delaware and continued her studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. Join us for a special evening showcasing the winners of the 2025 Heida Hermanns International Music Competition. Since taking top honors last fall at MoCA\CT, these already exceptional pianists have gone on to impressive achievements, performing on major stages and earning recognition at worldwide competitions.
Ye-Eun Hyun, a native of South Korea, began her musical journey at the piano at just five years old. Her early promise was confirmed when she won top prize at the TBC Broadcasting Piano Competition and made her orchestral debut with the Daegu Philharmonic while still in high school. The Westport Downtown Association (WDA) presents the 9th Annual Westoberfest, a Craft Beer & Family Fall Festival, on Saturday, October 3rd from 1 to 5 PM at Sigrid Schultz Plaza on Elm Street in Downtown Westport.
This year's festival features 20+ local and regional breweries pouring in the Tasting Tent, presented in collaboration with The Grapevine and Castle Wine & Spirits. Live music, food trucks, local vendors, and a dedicated Family Area with games, face painting, and hands-on art activities all afternoon.

Abilis is excited to announce its 21st annual Walk/Run for Abilis on Sunday, October 11, 2026! This annual family fun “friendraiser” is held at the Clambake area of Greenwich Point Park (Tod’s Point) in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. Participants can partake in the 1-mile accessible walk and/or a 5K family fun run. Advance registration is encouraged at abilis.us/walkrun. Registration is free for walkers, $35 for runners ages 12 and up, and $10 for runners 11 and under.
Back by popular demand is Carnival for a Cause, run by the Abilis Youth Board, with fun games and activities for children. A balloon artist, face painting, music, dancing, fitness and a pop-up Abilis Gardens & Gifts shop will also be part of the event. FTC Stage One is opening up the dance floor for CLASP’s annual benefit concert! Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) is an evidence-based training for the general public (ages 16+). We encourage everyone to receive the training! Learn how to reach out to someone who may be struggling and provide life-saving support. The training includes videos, a slideshow, and a group role play.
For 2026, we are offering this training for free quarterly on last Fridays from 12:30-2pm. Please note that at least 5 attendees are required for a training to take place. We also ask you not to attend any suicide prevention training if you have been personally affected by suicide in the past 6 months.
