Make your own dipped candle in the colonial way. In our candle-dipping workshop you will learn one of the ways people in the 17th and 18th century American made candles and then take your candle home to use and enjoy. Join the Museum today and enjoy this class for free!
Tickets for our workshops $15 per person for non-members, $10 for Family members and above. Workshops limited to 12 attendees, save your spot with the form below. Please note candles are made from bee’s wax and require a hot plate.

Ever wanted to know how a dress from your favorite period drama was made? Have questions about fashion from the past?
Join our Director of Programs and Collections, Nicole Carpenter, as she creates a reproduction gown based on 18th century examples and techniques. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions about the process of creating a gown, the history of mantua-makers or dress makers, and the Museum’s textile collection. Visitors can also try textile art objects like a spinning wheel, loom, and embroidery hoops for themselves.
This gown will be displayed and worn during our Colonial Field Day. Interested in attending? Tickets can be purchased with the form below. Tickets are $5 for nonmember adults, free for members and children under 10.

A fundraiser Gala for a wonderful non profit called Read to Grow.
The Gala is on May 2, 2024, from 6PM- 9PM and will be held at the Westport Library.
Read to Grow, is a literacy nonprofit that focuses on literacy from birth. They provide books and educational materials to parents to be their child’s first and best teacher.
They reach underserved families across CT with books and programs that provide essential tools needed for early language and literacy development.

Ever wanted to know how a dress from your favorite period drama was made? Have questions about fashion from the past?
Join our Director of Programs and Collections, Nicole Carpenter, as she creates a reproduction gown based on 18th century examples and techniques. Visitors are encouraged to ask questions about the process of creating a gown, the history of mantua-makers or dress makers, and the Museum’s textile collection. Visitors can also try textile art objects like a spinning wheel, loom, and embroidery hoops for themselves.

Westport Garden Club members celebrate the club’s 100th Anniversary with their annual sale featuring over 1,000 homegrown perennial plants from members’ own gardens with a special section of CT Native plants, tomatoes, herbs, and this year's plant of the year: Peonies. Shoppers will also find a selection of decorative container gardens, gifts for Mother’s Day, baked goods and more!
Club members on the field are available to offer advice on plant selection and each plant has a tag with care information. An information table with lists of native plants and details about Westport’s Pollinator Pathway Project will be staffed by knowledgeable members.
Proceeds from the sale support the club’s civic projects including the maintenance of local public gardens, educational programming, and grants to environmental non-profit organizations among other projects. The sale is held rain or shine. Cash and credit cards are accepted.

Ever wondered how to play hoop and stick? Or break flax? What about spinning yarn?
Bring the whole family and see for yourself! Take part in activities that were commonplace in the 18th century. Speak with costumed staff and volunteers about the lives of those in the colonial era. Try your hand at beating a rug, playing nine-mans-Morris or writing with a quill and ink. Enjoy colonial music and some treats while you explore the activities as well as the fun and games of the past.

Imagine it’s the summer of 1920. Westport is a sleepy farm community that lures New York’s most glamorous couple-F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald—to its shores.
Seeking respite from their whirlwind Jazz era lives, the Fitzgeralds set up in an 18th century farmhouse that has seen Revolution and the building of a nation over many decades. Zelda swims daily in the peaceful waters of the Long Island Sound while Scott takes advantage of the bucolic quiet to work on what he hopes will be his next great novel—The Great Gatsby. Join the Museum, as we recreate the summer of 1920 and the sites and characters that influenced Fitzgerald’s Great American novel.
Come prepared for a gorgeous, vigorous 90-minute walk in one of the East Coast’s most beautiful settings. Please bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Taking inspiration from poet Nikki Giovanni’s “My Poem” the exhibition responds to the poem’s call for continued revolution, focusing on the poem’s final line,“it will go on.” Exploring questions of revolution and textual resistance in the contemporary moment, the exhibition considers both overt and nuanced forms of protest. It Will Go On poses text as a central and connective framework, highlighting artists who employ the written word as a driving component of their practice.

Can you uncover the truth of the Westport Sanitarium? Rumors have spread of strange goings on inside the patient wing. Like the famed Nelly Bly, you are a reporter who has gone inside the sanitarium to investigate but find yourself locked inside the doctor's private office. Your group of up to ten people have one hour before the sanitarium staff return and begin your treatment.
This is a great group activity! Wonderful for birthdays, company activities or a club outing. Fun for the whole family, this escape room is recommended for children over eight. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Imagine it’s the summer of 1920. Westport is a sleepy farm community that lures New York’s most glamorous couple-F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald—to its shores.
Seeking respite from their whirlwind Jazz era lives, the Fitzgeralds set up in an 18th century farmhouse that has seen Revolution and the building of a nation over many decades. Zelda swims daily in the peaceful waters of the Long Island Sound while Scott takes advantage of the bucolic quiet to work on what he hopes will be his next great novel—The Great Gatsby. Join the Museum, as we recreate the summer of 1920 and the sites and characters that influenced Fitzgerald’s Great American novel.
Come prepared for a gorgeous, vigorous 90-minute walk in one of the East Coast’s most beautiful settings. Please bring water and wear comfortable walking shoes.

The Great Duck Race is in its 15th spectacular year. There is a huge Fun Faire with food and activities for families all day, then a presentation by the UN Undersecretary at 10:45, and the big race at 1pm. Come spend the day and help Westport Sunrise Rotary raise money for dozens of local charities. The Faire and all activities are free, plus people can buy a raffle ticket for a duck in race and win $5000.
