Artist Workshop: Korean Calligraphy
Registration required through Eventbrite. There are two offerings of the same workshop, one on June 28 and one on June 29. Register for one workshop only.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use traditional calligraphy materials and create works that express your personal story. Calligraphy has been a medium for communicating one’s own story since ancient times, and some of the most famous calligraphic works in East Asia are examples of this: Wang Xizhi’s Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion, Yan Zhenqing’s Draft of a Requiem to My Nephew, and Kim Jeong-hee’s Sehando. Learn to draw designs based on the symmetry of nature and inspired by traditions from around the world. In this workshop, you'll use a compass and straightedge to recreate beautiful patterns. Meanwhile, you'll develop a solid grounding in the language of symmetry in sacred ornamental art.
Throughout human history, many cultures have used geometry to make art, directly inspired by the rhythms and structures of life itself.
