Charlottesville Turkey Trot 5k
Get ready to move and give back this Thanksgiving! The Charlottesville Turkey Trot 5K is a lively, community-oriented run through the neighbourhoods around Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, Virginia.
The route features mostly flat roads with mild rolling hills — ideal for both walkers and runners alike. The event supports local food pantries (Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry), so you’re not just getting some holiday movement — you’re contributing to the community too.
There’s also a virtual 5 K option that you can complete from wherever you are between the main race date and the following days.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best, walking with family, or just joining in for the fun and the cause, this trot is a festive way to start your holiday.

Each Thanksgiving morning, Grace Episcopal Church in Keswick hosts the Blessing of the Hounds, a cherished local tradition that blends community, history, and faith. The ceremony dates back to November 28, 1929, and continues to draw locals and visitors alike for a heartfelt moment of gratitude and celebration.
Held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. the service takes place outdoors on the church grounds, where the rector offers blessings to the hounds, horses, and riders of the Keswick Hunt Club before they begin their Thanksgiving Day hunt. The event honors Virginia’s deep rural heritage and fosters a sense of togetherness among the congregation, hunters, and spectators.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to find parking and enjoy a warm cup of cider or hot chocolate offered in the parish hall before and after the ceremony. After the blessing, attendees can cross the road to watch the hounds and horses gather and begin their ride.
