Storm Cleanup: Central Neighborhood Parks
Join the Ann Arbor Parks Volunteer Program to help clean up storm debris across neighborhood parks, including Postman’s Rest, Crary Park, Douglas Park, and Burns Park. Volunteers will move together along a walking route, spending about 20–30 minutes at each location removing fallen branches and tidying park areas.
Schedule (tentative):
4 p.m. – Postman’s Rest
4:30 p.m. – Crary Park
5 p.m. – Douglas Park
5:45 p.m. – Burns Park
Tools, gloves, and water will be provided. Volunteers should be comfortable walking between parks and doing light physical work like bending, lifting, and carrying branches. Huron River Day 2026
New location, new format: Huron River Day
Mark your calendar for Huron River Day 2026 on Saturday, May 16, from noon to 4 p.m. at its new location, Riverside Park (1000 Canal Street). This free, family-friendly event sponsored by DTE Foundation celebrates the Huron River and the many conservation efforts led by local organizations and community partners. New this year, participants can start the day early by becoming a “Huron Hero” through morning workshops, guided walks, cleanups and other hands-on activities from 8 a.m. to noon, earning a prize to redeem during the afternoon festival. The festival will feature live music and performances, hands-on activities and games, live animals from Leslie Science & Nature Center, a kids area with inflatables and face painting, eco-friendly exhibitors and food vendors. Gallup River Cleanup
Join the Ann Arbor Parks Volunteer Program and DTE Gas DI GIS for a canoe-based clean-up on Gallup Pond, a calm, scenic stretch of the Huron River that is ideal for first-time paddlers. Volunteers will be paired in canoes (special requests may be accommodated) and provided with grabbers, bags, and all necessary supplies to remove litter from the water and shoreline.
