First Friday | Exoplanets: Other Worlds Beyond Our Solar System

May First Friday | Exoplanets: Other World Beyond Our Solar System Friday, May 3, 2024 | 6 p.m. Longway Planetarium | 1310 E. Kearsley St. Flint, MI 48503 Although exoplanets (*a planet outside of our solar system) might be even more common than stars, not a single exoplanet was known until 1995, earning its discoverers a Nobel Prize. Yet, in the last decade alone, many thousands have been found, with a broad range of sizes and orbits. What made this possible? We will summarize the strengths and weaknesses of various exoplanet direction methods, chronicle how successful each has been, characterize what kinds of exoplanets are easiest to find, and describe what kinds of exoplanets have been found. We will also detail selected research programs and space missions specifically designed to detect exoplanets. Presented by Dr. Stark, Assistant Professor at MSU - St. Andrews in Midland.  Join us every first Friday of the month for talks on astronomy and local science topics. Check our website for the topic each mo… Event Type: Education. Planetarium Show. Science. Institute: Longway Planetarium. Friday, May 3, 2024, 6:00 PM – 6:45 PM. Longway Planetarium 1310 E.
