"Saving the Chattahoochee" a documentary film by Hal Jacobs / Hosted by Dr. Sarah Higinbotham 7:00 PM - Humanities 202 For more than 20 years, Sally Bethea was the voice of the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta. Back in the early 1990s, hardly anyone wanted anything to do with this urban river once it flowed through the city. For nearly 60 miles downstream it was off-putting and off-limits because of sewage, litter, runoff, and erosion. Starting in 1994, Sally was named Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and took charge. She and her organization with downstream communities sued the City of Atlanta under the Clean Water Act. With the collaboration and leadership of Mayor Shirley Franklin (aka The Sewer Mayor), the city invested a whopping $4 billion to upgrade the sewer and water system. This lecture will center on the rich ethnographic and methodological experience of Dr. Ortemberg's three decades of historical research in Argentina, Peru, Brazil, and France. The goal is to invite attendees to discover intellectual and professional possibilities in the study of Latin America's past and present, by sharing first-hand reflections and findings. Duo Cantanza - Classical Guitar Duo Concert

Emory Chamber Music Society of Atlanta hosts a trio led by violinist, Emil Altschuler 7:30 PM in Williams Hall Auditorium at Oxford College of Emory University. Emil Altschuler performs with incredible technique, magnificent expression, and profound artistry across a wide-ranging repertoire. The Boston Globe writes “top notch” of Altschuler’s performance.
