Cell Phones 101: Start with the Basics for Android and I-Phone

This 5 week course will start at the beginning and teach you how to get the most out of your Android or I-Phone. Thursdays from 2-3 p.m. running April 18-May 23. (No class on May 2 due to our travel program, which begins at 1:30 p.m. and is free, so sign up for that, too!) James Giordani earned his Master's in Social Work at the University of Michigan focusing on older adult tech literacy; learning and discovering ways to use technology to better the quality of living and extend the independence of older adults. Introduction to French Melissa Levesque will teach this fun, interactive Introduction to French class! Weekly Senior Park Walks

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED.  Every Friday morning from 10-11 a.m. May-October. Hosted by the Ann Arbor Senior Center. Please join us for a weekly guided 1-mile beginner level walk at a different park each week. We will meet in specified location for each week’s selected park. Path conditions may include paved, unpaved and boardwalks, and little or no elevation change. Location information, walk checklists and maps will be available via email or at the Ann Arbor Senior Center. Bring a water bottle; a light snack will be provided. The Art and Science of Invasive Species

Fridays, April 26, May 3 and 10. Join our friend Eleva Potter, Natural Area Preservation Environmental Educator, for this new, three-part series! Eleva will help us learn how to identify common invasive species, cook with them and turn them into beautiful art! Each session will focus on a different topic: Session 1: Become familiar with the four most common invasive plants you can find in Ann Arbor City Parks, learn which ones are edible, and try some easy dishes you can make out of them. Come hungry because you will be taste testing these recipes; Session 2: Learn more about invasive forbs and how to turn them into different colors of paper; Session 3: Collect woody invasives the creating an Earth Loom by weaving invasives together between trees, that will be open to the public to enjoy. Bridge Supervised Play

Supervised Bridge Play is designed for beginners and low intermediate players who wish to improve their bidding, declarer, and defensive play. The program will run with students playing 7-9 hands per session. Hands will be analyzed after completion to review the bidding, play, and defense. No book or partner needed. It is highly recommended that students have some type of previous bidding class or experience. Drop-in fee: $10 members; $12 non-members. Please note that this is not a duplicate game; just practice. Bridge Defense Class Part II

This class is designed for beginners and low intermediate players who wish to improve their defensive play. The class will run with lecture and discussion from the text for the first 90 minutes. Students will then shuffle, deal and play about three hands during the last 30 minutes. Hands will be analyzed after completion to review the bidding, play and defense. Text: Defense in the 21st Century by Audrey Grant. Can be purchased online or at your local bookstore. Bridge for Beginners, Part II

Instructional bridge classes are directed by Ray Gentz, and are open to all ages. Each class requires participants to bring their own copy of “Play of Hand in the 21st Century” by Audrey Grant (ISBN-10: 0939460947). Each class requires its own registration. Cost of each class is: $130, member; $156 nonmembers (drop-in option of $15, members; $17, nonmembers). Bridge for Beginners Part I No prerequisites required. A beginning course focusing on basic aspects of bridge featuring bidding using the Standard American system taught using the required textbook. Also included are sections on scoring, defense and more. Each class consists of 90 minutes of presentation including a brief break. The last 30 minutes will be for students to play pre-dealt hands that deal with the material from the lecture. Tuesdays, 1-3 p.m. Jan. 16-April 16 (13 weeks: No class Feb. 27 due to election). Creative Writing: Just get started... or get unstuck

Join us for a fun, generative session where we’ll play with words! Having trouble staring down the blank page, or want to reinvigorate a writing practice? This creative writing class will give you exercises to help you get the words out. We’ll write story beginnings and learn to enjoy the process of starting from a word, idea, or image. Senior Focus Yoga

This gentle, fun Yoga practice welcomes folks of all mobility levels and experience. Senior Focus Yoga includes modifications for individual needs and safe transitions in and out of yoga postures. Motor planning and fall prevention awareness is woven throughout the class to help improve mobility. Explore yoga postures in seated, mid plane, and standing positions, finishing the class in reclined peaceful relaxation. Enjoy the benefits of improved alignment, balance, strength, flexibility, and breath awareness through the ancient practice of Yoga. The use of props; chair, straps, or yoga blocks to support your practice is welcome. You may bring your own mat or there are mats available at the Senior Center. The Art and Science of Invasive Species

Fridays, April 26, May 3 and 10. Join our friend Eleva Potter, Natural Area Preservation Environmental Educator, for this new, three-part series! Eleva will help us learn how to identify common invasive species, cook with them and turn them into beautiful art! Each session will focus on a different topic: Session 1: Become familiar with the four most common invasive plants you can find in Ann Arbor City Parks, learn which ones are edible, and try some easy dishes you can make out of them. Come hungry because you will be taste testing these recipes; Session 2: Learn more about invasive forbs and how to turn them into different colors of paper; Session 3: Collect woody invasives the creating an Earth Loom by weaving invasives together between trees, that will be open to the public to enjoy. The course focuses on declarer play using methods described in the book, “Play of the Hand in the 21st Century,” by Audrey Grant. This gentle, fun Yoga practice welcomes folks of all mobility levels and experience. Senior Focus Yoga includes modifications for individual needs and safe transitions in and out of yoga postures. Explore yoga postures in seated, mid plane, and standing positions, finishing the class in reclined peaceful relaxation. Cell Phones 101: Start with the Basics for Android and I-Phone

This 5 week course will start at the beginning and teach you how to get the most out of your Android or I-Phone. Thursdays from 2-3 p.m. running April 18-May 23. CANCELLED - Intermediate Tai Chi

Offered in partnership with Washtenaw Community College for seniors 65 and older, this free Tai Chi class is next level from our beginner class and combines martial arts movements with Qi (energy) circulation, breathing and stretching techniques to improve balance and overall health.
