Indiana Flag Presentation with David Reddick

Morrisson-Reeves Library Events David B. Reddick’s book, “The Indiana Flag: Who Really Designed It?” describes the campaign undertaken by the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) between 1914 and 1917 to have lawmakers enact a unique state flag. Reddick’s slide presentation today is entitled “Irwin B. Arnold’s Role in the Design of the State Flag.” It focuses on how Arnold, a resident of Richmond, Indiana, first submitted a state flag design in 1914 only to have it initially rejected by members of the Indiana Grand Army of the Republic and the DAR. Arnold’s flag reappears in 1916 when a New York pageant director plagiarized his design to have a flag for the three pageants he conducted in the state. In his last chapter, Reddick argues that Paul Hadley used portions of Arnold’s design in constructing what would become the state flag design. Reddick spent 20 years of his work life in the journalism field and 24 years in the insurance industry. He and his wife, Rebecca, live in Camby, Indiana.
