Animals of the North Pole

Learn about the Arctic Circle, one of the planet's coldest and harshest environments. This giant frozen desert is home to incredible animals with specific adaptations for survival in this extreme biome.
This program focuses on the life science aspects of studying life, climate, and seasonality inside the Arctic Circle. We will explore how creatures thrive in the dramatic seasonal shifts and difficult conditions of the Far North.
The most exciting part is that Animals of the North Pole will be visiting the library! We are thrilled to host a real-life reindeer that children can meet and learn about firsthand.

Local Spotlight: David Ripp - Richmond's Olympic Figure Skate Maker

Richmond's David Ripp has specialized in skates for ice and hardwood for decades. His company, Skates U.S. manufactures the skates of choice for the majority of the current US National and World Champion Artistic Skaters and the World Quad Ball Roller Hockey Skaters.
David will visit Morrisson-Reeves Library during the Richmond Meltdown on Wednesday, January 28, ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, to give a special presentation about the history of U.S. Skates and his work with Olympic figure skaters, as well as other national and global competitive skating teams.
The presentation will take place at 5 PM on January 28 in MRL's beautiful Tiffany Reading Lounge.
