Crown Me: An American Mixtape

What is Chronological Hybrid Micro-Memoir Poetry? Victorio doesn't know, but that's what he has been writing. This manuscript-in-progress is a story about a person and a genre who grew up together, told from their perspectives. In many ways, this project is a marriage of two of Victorio's major obsessions, the scholarly inquiry of Hip Hop poetics and personal practice of poetic craft. The result is a mixtape of micro-memoirs, sonnets and erasure poems written as a coming-of-age story that includes a well-known cast of characters from KRS-One to Missy Elliott to Bad Bunny. Ultimately, this session explores how personal narrative, musical history and poetics collide to redefine the lived experience. Type of Event: Academic Lectures and Seminars. Open to Public: Yes. Price: Free. Contact Name: Carla Sykes. Contact Email: honors@ut.edu. Tuesday, November 17, 2026, 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM. FCA Building Charlene Gordon Theater.
