Opening of LightScapes: An Exhibit About the Wonder of Light

Young At Art Museum presents LightScapes, a solo exhibition of new large-scale light sculptures and an interactive fabrication lab by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. This immersive and interactive exhibition, which runs from Saturday, November 3 through April 28, 2019, features a selection of three large-scale sculptures created to give viewers a multi-sensory, educational experience about the wonder of light and a dazzling, translucent maze of marbleized acrylic walls which the artist has deemed the first of its kind. Visitors will see a towering illuminated wall installation entitled Aqua consisting of more than 70 custom acrylic elements and mirrors arranged in a towering grid that they can alter by changing the hue and brightness of the lighting within each panel. Haiiibiiile, the third installation, is comprised of 300 custom acrylic sculptures which will be suspended in a constantly rotating mobile of playful translucent forms lit by changeable LEDs. BOATING SAFELY CLASS

The River Center continues to collaborate with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary “Flotilla 52” to provide a series of Boating Safely Classes targeted specifically to young boaters in our community. These classes are provided through a generous sponsorship by the AustinBlu Foundation, a not-for-profit dedicated to raising awareness and promoting educational programs to improve boater safety. There is no cost for this class, however there is a deposit required to reserve a seat. The deposit of $10 will be refunded in full to all students who complete the class. Past, Present… Exhibition

A solo Exhibition by Installation and Sculpture Artist, Jeanne Jaffe, titled “Past, Present…” How people create meaning and self-determination from the complexity of sensation, memory, myth, and cultural history is the overarching theme of all of Jaffe’s work. Specifically, Jaffe has used her 3D works and installation and explored how identity is constructed from early pre-verbal bodily experience, and later influences of language and culture. The work selected for “Past, Present…” are examples of this exploration. The pre-verbal sculptures attempt to give concrete form to intangible sensations and early bodily experiences by creating hybrid forms – fusions of animate and inanimate worlds – thus appearing simultaneously familiar, yet strange. Common themes throughout Jaffe’s more recent body of work – well known folktales, history, and poetry – are re-imagined through a contemporary lens and made into multi-sensory environments. The Weight Band Featuring Members of The Band and The Levon Helm Band

The Band was one of the most important roots rock groups of the 1960s. It included Levon Helm, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Richard Manuel and Robbie Robertson. The group, which began in Canada and then migrated to the U.S. was the subject of a Martin Scorsese documentary, The Last Waltz. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and in 2004, Rolling Stone ranked then 50 on the list of 100 greatest artists. Their song “The Weight” was ranked 41st on the magazine’s list of the 500 greatest songs. They have a proud history. Levon Helm died in 2012 after a lengthy battle with throat cancer that kept him from performing for many years. In 2013, in the Woodstock barn Levon Helm loved, Jim Weider and Randy Ciarlante, both former member of The Band, performed “Songs of the Band” with founder Garth Hudson, Jimmy Vivino and Byron Isaacs. Opening of LightScapes: An Exhibit About the Wonder of Light

Young At Art Museum presents LightScapes, a solo exhibition of new large-scale light sculptures and an interactive fabrication lab by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. This immersive and interactive exhibition, which runs from Saturday, November 3 through April 28, 2019, features a selection of three large-scale sculptures created to give viewers a multi-sensory, educational experience about the wonder of light and a dazzling, translucent maze of marbleized acrylic walls which the artist has deemed the first of its kind. Visitors will see a towering illuminated wall installation entitled Aqua consisting of more than 70 custom acrylic elements and mirrors arranged in a towering grid that they can alter by changing the hue and brightness of the lighting within each panel. Haiiibiiile, the third installation, is comprised of 300 custom acrylic sculptures which will be suspended in a constantly rotating mobile of playful translucent forms lit by changeable LEDs. Opening of LightScapes: An Exhibit About the Wonder of Light

Young At Art Museum presents LightScapes, a solo exhibition of new large-scale light sculptures and an interactive fabrication lab by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. Opening of LightScapes: An Exhibit About the Wonder of Light

Young At Art Museum presents LightScapes, a solo exhibition of new large-scale light sculptures and an interactive fabrication lab by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. This immersive and interactive exhibition, which runs from Saturday, November 3 through April 28, 2019, features a selection of three large-scale sculptures created to give viewers a multi-sensory, educational experience about the wonder of light and a dazzling, translucent maze of marbleized acrylic walls which the artist has deemed the first of its kind. Visitors will see a towering illuminated wall installation entitled Aqua consisting of more than 70 custom acrylic elements and mirrors arranged in a towering grid that they can alter by changing the hue and brightness of the lighting within each panel. Young At Art Museum presents LightScapes, a solo exhibition of new large-scale light sculptures and an interactive fabrication lab by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. This immersive and interactive exhibition, which runs from Saturday, November 3 through April 28, 2019, features a selection of three large-scale sculptures created to give viewers a multi-sensory, educational experience about the wonder of light and a dazzling, translucent maze of marbleized acrylic walls which the artist has deemed the first of its kind. Visitors will see a towering illuminated wall installation entitled Aqua consisting of more than 70 custom acrylic elements and mirrors arranged in a towering grid that they can alter by changing the hue and brightness of the lighting within each panel. Albert Cummings

Don’t try to paint him in a corner. Albert Cummings is not just the guitar player or bluesman or singer or songwriter. Though he is a master of all of that, he is so much more. He is the complete package, with an approach to blues and rock that has been described as soulful and explosive. Cummings first picked up a guitar as a kid and learned some chords from his father, but he switched to the banjo at 12 when he fell in love with bluegrass. It took the early recordings and then a live concert of Stevie Ray Vaughan to send him back to the guitar with renewed fervor. Cummings began his first band, Swamp Yankee, when he was 27, and his career took an upward trajectory in 1998 when he walked into a Northeast Blues Society open jam and won the right to compete in the International Blues Challenge. By 2000, his debut single “The Long Way” was released to rave reviews and more doors opened. His next break was the chance to work with Double Trouble, the late Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section. Opening of LightScapes: An Exhibit About the Wonder of Light

Young At Art Museum presents LightScapes, a solo exhibition of new large-scale light sculptures and an interactive fabrication lab by Miami-based interdisciplinary artist Haiiileen. This immersive and interactive exhibition, which runs from Saturday, November 3 through April 28, 2019, features a selection of three large-scale sculptures created to give viewers a multi-sensory, educational experience about the wonder of light and a dazzling, translucent maze of marbleized acrylic walls which the artist has deemed the first of its kind.
