Art Lab | Frame Building

This is a hands-on workshop with heavy demonstration. Students will each make a very small practice frame of their own - a miniature study of the joints covered in the workshop. Tools to be used: Japanese Saw, Chisel(s), Sandpaper, X-acto knives, cutting board, various glues, straight edge, clamps, etc. Artists, please bring your own Exacto with a few extra blades if you have. This workshop covers simple ways to frame your work without the aid of big tools and machines. From understanding why you could benefit from framing in the first place, to the daunting questions like "when do I stop creating? At the border, past the border, around the border?". Students will learn how a framed piece may make or break your work, as it can be a part of the work itself. Just short of miter joints, the workshop will explore a hands-on demo of butt-joints, overlaps, rabbet joints, as well as materials such as mat board, mount board, foam core, archival materials and more. Instructed by Zoe Alexa All materials… Cost: $35. Ticket Web Link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/art-lab-frame-building-tickets-61877223441#tickets. Ticket Phone: 561-330-9614. Contact: Jill Brown. The Modernism Project Exhibition

Artist Kim Rae Taylor painted a series of portraits documenting the female artists, writers, poets, performers, and art patrons of all types who helped shape Modernism. Women were an integral part of the avant-garde during the early decades of the twentieth century, making significant contributions to modern art and literature. The portraits capture some of these women in their later years since many lived long and productive lives. As an ongoing series, the paintings serve as a visual extension of Taylor’s research of the women of the modern era, examining the broad scope of their careers within the context of gender and aging. Though the paintings do capture the women as they looked late in life, the supporting material that displays alongside the paintings features photos of each subject and short biographical information about their lives. My primary objective in creating the portraits is to raise awareness of the women and the significant contributions they made during a pivotal period in the arts. Cost: Free Admission. Ticket Phone: 561-330-9614. Contact: Jill Brown. Audience: Adults. Children. Families. Seniors. Teens.
