Eagle Eye Observatory public program sessions

The public is welcome to attend the 8 p.m. Eagle Eye Observatory session on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays at Canyon of the Eagles resort. The sessions are led by an astronomer who will guide you through the seasonal wonders of the universe. Capt'n Karl's at Reveille Peak Ranch

The final Capt'n Karl's Trail Series race of the year takes place at Reveille Peak Ranch and features a series finale party. Runners will be treated to unique and spectacular geological formations while they navigate over large rock domes with amazing views. The event also has the most elevation gain of the entire series: 3,812 foot. This course really has it all: single-track, exposure, tree-covered woods, hills, and technicality. Camp Agape Memorial 5K Run/Walk

The Camp Agape 5K and children's Memorial Run takes place at Johnson Park in Marble Falls. The event raises money for Camp Agape, a grief support program for children and families who have suffered the loss of a loved one. Oatmeal Festival

The annual Oatmeal Festival is a fun, sometimes wacky, celebration of all things oatmeal during Labor Day weekend. Friday night’s activities take place in the community of Oatmeal, just south of Bertram, and include a barbecue dinner, the Miss Oatmeal and Mr. Groaty Oats pageants, a dance, and a washer-pitching tournament.  On Saturday, the festival moves to Bertram. It's a busy day with a race, an oatmeal bake-off, vendors, and most notably, the grand parade. The parade finale is a plane dropping oatmeal over the people lining the route. Iron Horse Obstacle Series

The Iron Horse Obstacle Series is holding four of five events at the Burnet County Rodeo Arena in Burnet: Aug. 13, Sept. 3, Nov. 12, and Dec. 3. The Oct. 8 event will be in Hamilton.
