We'll meet at the north end of Canadice Lake boat launch for a 10:00 paddle. We'll plan to paddle along the shore line for an hour then raft up for a drink and snack before returning to our put in. This is a beautiful little lake - it reminds us of being in the ADK's!!! Be sure to dress for the weather, bring extra clothing for "just in case" hydration and all your boating supplies. As always, we'll keep an eye on the weather - this is November!!! But the long range forecast looks good!! It'd be nice to sneak one more paddle in for this season!!!

Meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM start from the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center on Seven Lakes Dr. in Harriman. We will hike the Pine Meadow, Seven Hills, and H-T-S Trails to the Ramapo Torne, Torne View, Chipmunk, and Diamond Mountains, returning via the Seven Hills, H-T-S, and Pine Meadow Trails. This hike is rated strenuous with several rock scrambles. Panoramic vista views of southern Harriman Park from the summits of Ramapo Torne, Chipmunk, and Diamond Mountains. Be prepared for your hike by bringing a personal first-aid kit, enough water, and food/snacks. Please wear appropriate hiking shoes. Hiking poles are highly recommended. Rain cancels. Two-hour hybrid hike at Ellison Park split between a flat ~1.1-mile loop on the south side of Blossom Rd, followed by a 3-mile second hike at a faster pace, mainly following the Coyote Trail. Meet at 9:45 am in the South Lodge parking lot on the south side of Blossom Rd, for a 10:00 am hike start. Please dress for the weather, bring some water to drink, and wear boots or trail shoes with good traction. Hiking poles may be helpful. Onondaga Chapter
Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. This is an out and back 3.7-mile hike with 872 feet of elevation gain located in the Jessup River Wild Forest. This trail has two locations near the top of the descent to the shore that provide scenic views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Lake Colby is just north of the town of Saranac Lake. Lake Colby has rainbow and brown trout as well as salmon, which can be taken from the lake year round. Join us for a rewarding fall hike up Mt. Van Hoevenberg, one of the newest sustainably designed trails in the Adirondacks. Opened in October 2018, this route offers a thoughtful, durable trail layout and leads to one of the finest panoramic views of the High Peaks. The hike is 3.6 miles round-trip with an elevation of 2,860 feet. While not a race, the trail does include stair sections, and we will pace ourselves comfortably. Expect the outing to take 4+ hours, including a well-earned break at the summit. We will meet at the trail head register at 9:45 AM, ready to begin hiking at 10:00 AM. Trailhead directions: Finding the start can be a bit tricky at the new Olympic and hiking center. From the parking lot, go through the gate and look left for a blue ORDA sign (not the traditional brown and yellow DEC sign). Walk toward the old bobsled run — from there you’ll see the trailhead and register. After signing in, hikers begin a gentle climb that gradually opens to spectacular High Peaks views. RSVP REQUIRED.

(Rain date: November 12th) – Tackle the longest of the Saranac Lake 6! McKenzie Mountain is a full- day adventure, covering 10 miles round-trip from the Lake Placid side. This route offers a gradual start along a ski trail before transitioning to a red- marked path that climbs steadily toward the summit. Expect a challenging but rewarding outing with excellent views and classic Adirondack terrain. We will meet at 9:45 AM at the Lake Placid / Whiteface Inn Lane Trailhead, ready to begin hiking at 10:00 AM. Trailhead location: Whiteface Inn Lane (County Route 31), off State Route 86, just west of Lake Placid. Parking is roadside — please be careful not to block the road. This approach is the more direct route from Lake Placid. Plan for up to 5 hours to reach the peak and about 4 hours for the return. This is a full-day hike, so be sure to bring lunch, water, snacks, poles, and layered clothing.

Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. We will hike to Bear Swamp going past Scarlet Pond taking the Ridge Loop to the Rocky Mountain Connector Trail. We will then go around Bear Swamp on the Shore Trail back to the Rocky Mountain Connector Trail to the Middle Trail to past the waterfall and back to the parking lot. We will meet at the end-point of the hike, and shuttle one or more cars to the start, to allow a thru-hike of about 5 miles, including a short spur to the west end of the lake, although we will walk along the south shore for almost a mile. We will take a few steps off the trail to view Berrymill Flow at its outlet. We will hike south from the Hammond Pond trailhead, then northwest on the Bass Lake trail. There are some undulations but no major elevation changes. Meeting Time and Place: 9:45 on the south spur of Caza Turn Rd, just south of the Black Brook crossing; at an old, overgrown road. (There is no sign marking the trailhead on short Caza Turn Rd, no parking lot). We will shuttle to the Hammond Pond/Berrymill Flow trailhead on Ensign Pond Rd.

We head east and south on the R-R all the way to the Crossover, then take the Crossover (W) going east to the Five Ponds Loop (Pi). We follow the loop south around Gatum Pond, then loop north to Weyble Pond. We continue on the Pink past Glasmere Pond, then return on the R-R all the way to the parking area. This hike is moderate. Hike Ben Wood Mountain & Pack Forest Lake, Warrensburg
Cold River Chapter
This is an easy hike with some elevation along a logging road which makes a loop around Pack Forest Lake with a spur hike up Ben Wood Mountain. The elevation gain is about 400’. The summit is wooded, but continuing on a short path south of the summit leads to a viewpoint with vistas of the peaks of Thurman and Warrensburg to the south. Open rock ledges provide a spot for a snack. The trail is not marked but is wide and easy to follow.

Hike The Priory to the Palmer Pond Loop, Chestertown

Although you may be very familiar with the Chester Challenge Palmer Pond loop, this trail starts at The Priory, a former Catholic retreat center now owned by the Town of Chester, passes by the Chester Horse Farm and takes a turn around Palmer Pond and then back to our parking at The Priory. This flat trail (elevation 250') is about 3.2 miles with most of the trail in the Lake George Wild Forest. We will stop and have a snack along side the Pond.

Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. This hike is for you! Join us for a hike of the perimeter trails of Mendon Ponds Park for a distance of 10-11 miles. Start 9:30 AM start from the Nyack Beach State Park parking area. For directions enter "698 N. Broadway, Nyack, NY" in Google Maps. We will hike the recently established Boulders Loop & Long Path to reach the summit of Hook Mountain, to enjoy several vistas of the Hudson River. We will then continue on the Long Path and Landing Road for a picnic lunch at the Hudson. Following lunch, we will leisurely stroll on the Bike Path along the river and back to the parking area. This is a nice trail on rolling terrain through the forest. Meeting Time / Place: 9:30 at Tops in North Creek, or at the parking lot for the trailhead at 9:50. The parking area is labeled Hudson Gorge Wilderness Area on the left side of Route 28, about 10 miles north of North Creek. Women's Hike - Keuka Outlet Trail

We will hike for 2 hours, approx. 4 miles along the trail between Keuka Lake and Seneca Lake. There are several nice falls along the trail and it is mainly a flat trail. We will hike each direction from this parking area. Hiking poles and boots may be helpful if any slippery conditions exist due to the weather. Dress for the weather and bring water and a lunch in backpack to carry as we will eat along the way. If you'd like to carpool, meet at the Canandaigua Wegmans at 9:15 am. It is a 35 min carpool from there. If not carpooling, meet at Seneca Mill Falls parking on Outlet Rd. Carpenter Falls via White Trail and Bahar Nature Preserve
Onondaga Chapter
Carpenter Falls and Bahar Nature Preserve sit side by side near Skaneateles Lake, but they offer two different experiences: a dramatic waterfall visit and a quieter walk through the woods. At Carpenter Falls, Bear Swamp Creek drops over a 90-foot Upper Falls into a steep, wooded gorge. A short, accessible boardwalk leads from the parking area to an overlook. There's also a trail with stone steps down the ravine for another view of the falls. We will continue to the lake on White Trail. We will do a side trip to Bahar Nature Preserve to see an old-growth forest. If anyone is interested, we could stop on the return in Skaneateles for the annual Dickens Christmas and do a small stroll in town. Must contact leader to confirm meeting time and location.

Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. Start 9:30 AM at Sterling Forest Visitor Center Parking, 115 Old Forge Rd, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987. Easy walk around Sterling Lake featuring a historic furnace and mine. Be sure to check out the displays in the visitor's center. Catch the blue blaze trail in front of the visitor's center going west. Pass the foundation of an old church on right, then enter the woods. Cross the wooden bridge (over the old sluice for the water wheel) and the furnace is a short side trip to the left. Built in the 1700s, it was restored in the 1950s. Continue on the blue-blazed trail. Comes out on a road and follows it for a while, then enters the woods and continues around the lake, crossing an inlet on a berm. The trail then turns south and begins to climb. Follow back to the visitor's center. We will stop and have lunch on the lake beach at the far side of Sterling lake. We will hike the Highland Crossing Trail which is a great 6 mile trail crossing several different areas. Depending on the weather and the interest that day, we can choose to hike 4-6 miles. The hike could go a little longer if we choose to hike the 6 miles to the end of the trail. This is mainly a flat trail so it's easy to get in more distance and fun to see what area this trail covers. Still hiking poles and boots may be helpful if any slippery conditions exist due to the weather. This is an out and back 2.3 mile hike with a gradual 623 foot elevation gain. The summit is wooded but there are two lookouts on the way up and another one 100 yards beyond the summit. From these points you get long range views of the surrounding mountains. Meeting Time/Place: We will meet at the Sawyer Mountain pull off parking area on Route 28/30 between Indian Lake and Blue Mountain Lake. Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. This hike begins just off of County Road 106 with moderately challenging steep parts at beginning and ends with an easier middle section. There are great views from tops of both mountains and nice varied terrain in the valleys and by Lake Skenonto. The trail also passes by Tom Jones Shelter. We will stop and have lunch next to Lake Skenonto or at the top of Parker Cabin Mountain depending on timing. We will head east across the road on the Seven Hills Trail to the T-MI Trail and then to the Breakneck Mountain Trail. From there, we will turn right onto the S-BM Trail, passing the Third Reservoir, and continue to the T-MI Trail, where we will make a right to return via Seven Hills back to the Sebago Boat Launch. The hike will begin promptly at 8:45 AM at Kakiat Park, located off Rt 202 in Montebello, NY (GPS: 41.14579, -74.112855). Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to gear up and put on snowshoes. From the trailhead, we will head north on the Kakiat Trail (white blaze), then turn right onto Torne Valley Road and follow it to Pine Meadow Lake, where we will stop for lunch. Afterward, we will retrace our steps along Torne Valley Road and return to the parking lot via the Kakiat Trail. This is a strenuous hike. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Mid-Hudson Chapter
It's the annual "Go With The Snow" ski outing over the Martin Luther King Jr Birthday weekend. We'll stay in a comfortable motel or shared house near numerous cross country skiing destinations in north-central NY State's Tug Hill and southwestern Adirondack regions.
We'll be skiing on groomed and track-set snow at Nordic centers within an hour's drive from where we'll be staying. Trail fees will be about $20 to $25 per person, per day, but a couple of community XC ski centers are free of charge (grooming and all). This will be a joint outing with the AMC NY-NoJ Chapter Ski Committee.
Participants should bring their own pre-prepared food to heat and eat, especially if we stay in a house-share. If the group stays in a motel, there will be the option to eat at a nearby restaurant. The accommodations will be determined depending on the size of the group.
There is no public transportation to this area. Participants will need to drive or arrange for their own transportation.

On the north side of the lake, we’ll be walking through the former Lake Cascade Camp, and we may see some concrete remnants. Hopefully, we’ll have good snowshoe conditions! Walking Wednesday
Onondaga Chapter
Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. This is a great winter snowshoe. It’s a popular trail so it is often broken out. The trailhead is on Route 30/28N just past the Adirondack Experience Museum. The trail heads east and is gradual & moderate for the first mile. The second mile is steeper on rock face and can be icy. There is a fire tower with good views at the 3752 foot summit. Mountaineering style snowshoes recommended. Micro spikes or crampons required. Dress in layers. Be prepared for the summit. It can be cold and windy. Bring food wand water.
