Quick Lake Backpack, Willowemoc Wild Forest, Western Catskills

Mid-Hudson Chapter The 14,800 acre Willowemoc Wild Forest is a place you can enjoy solitude.  It offers an extensive trail network and several ponds.  Even though there are no major elevation changes, you still can get a grand view.  For this, we'll do a pack-less side hike up Beech Mtn. (~2 miles RT; ~150 ft. ascent).  How can you get a Catskill grand view on such a small climb?  Well, Beech Mtn. is the highest point in all Sullivan County.     Here's the itinerary:         Day of Arrival:            Hike ~1.7 miles, with no significant elevation change, to a primitive tent site (with outhouse) on Frick Pond.         Day 1:            Hike to Quick Lake, with a pack-less side hike up Beech Mtn. for the view.  With overnight packs, we'll hike ~7            miles with ~800 ft. elevation gain.  There's a shelter and tent sites on Quick Lake.  This is a good fishing spot.         Day 2:            Hike back to the parking area (~6.5 miles; ~800 ft. decent) on different trails than those of Day 1.    For more info on… Hosted By: Mid-Hudson Chapter. Paddle - West River

Genesee Valley Chapter We will carry our boats a short distance down the old railroad bed and launch there.  Jim assures us he will be there to help with the launch site.  We will paddle out toward the old rookery, hoping to find heron (or eagle).  A few boats at a time should approach the area in silence as we are paddling into the birds' space and we do not want to scare. If after we return to our put in, we have not yet paddled 2 hours, we will paddle under the bridge (if possible ) and continue into that portion of the West River.  This is a nice paddle to start the season with!  Of course we will help each other with the carry. Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear you PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers.  New to ADK?  Come join us for this paddle and if you like what we do, consider becoming a member of ADK: to support responsible outdoor recreation and enjoy all the benefits of membership.  Here's the link to apply for membership: members.adk.org.
