Intro to bikepacking-bike touring (overnight)
Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter
This will be an overnight trip in which participants will carry all they need for an overnight camp on their bikes. The length of the riding each day will be limited. The emphasis will be on "dialing in" a bike touring setup that can be used in the future. Specifics will depend on participants' experience and comfort level, but potential destinations include Moreau State Park campground, Dacy Clearing, or the Essex Chain. A well-maintained bike with wider tires will work best, but we will work with whatever you have. It's possible to borrow bags, racks, etc. so don't let not having that equipment dissuade you! Typical overnight gear you would use for backpacking works well. A helmet is required. Time TBD.

Geneva Business improvement committee has asked ADK to help with their "paddle fest" at Seneca Lake. We will be volunteering to help on land (explaining how to paddle safely, how to wear PFD's, how to launch boats etc. ) on the water (keeping an eye on non-experienced boater) or just being there for support. We will have an ADK table set up to talk with folks about our organization.

Moxham Mountain
Albany Chapter
Register via email to the leader. Exact time details to be determined next week. We'll probably meet about 8 at the exit 9 park and ride in Clifton Park, or 9:15 at the trailhead. Moxham mountain is near Minerva, New York. It is a 5.3-mile out-and-back trail with about 1350' of elevation gain. Much of the trail is in the woods, so sheltered from direct sun. There are several overlooks with scenic views and a large open area for lunch at the top with spectacular views (not 360, but still expansive). The trail has some up and down, but mostly occurs along a ridgeline. We will hike at a moderate pace (not fast). Slower if weather is hot and humid!

I'm going to try leading a few weekday high peaks hikes. I've listed the hike for Tuesday, but I will change the day to Wednesday or even Thursday if the weather looks better, with a decision to be made on Sunday or Monday before. Weekdays give us the chance to hike from The Garden or the Ausable Mountain Reserve parking lot. I'm open to suggestions for where to hike. Email me if you might want to come along. Meet at the park and ride at the north end of Media Drive near Northway Exit 18 or at the trailhead. Meeting time will be early, but will depend on the day's hike. Time TBD.

Seneca Park Hybrid Hike
Genesee Valley Chapter
Meet at Trout Lake parking pull-outs on the river-side of the road a 9:45 A.M.for a 10:00 A.M. prompt start. Our hybrid hike consists of 2 hikes that allow us to drop off hikers who prefer a 40-minute to 1-hour easier hike at a slower pace with less elevation change, then continue with the 2nd hike for the rest of the 2 hours at a faster pace with some short climbs. This allows all of us to keep hiking together, when some of our old and new friends need to shorten their hike or some are just starting back hiking after a time off or recovering from surgery. Faster-paced hike will follow going North. Distance to be determined by group ability. We should get some nice views of a few waterfalls and the river. Bring bug spray and water. Poles may be helpful. If enough people want to extend the ending time and distance of the second hike, we'll aim for the Buddha and Rattlesnake Pete's Point.
You must read and sign the “club’s release of liability form” which will be available at the parking lot.

Blackhead Range (A)
Long Island Chapter
The Blackhead Range is a prominent landmark in the northern Catskills and it’s 3 main peaks are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th highest of the Catskill 3500. In fact, an average height person standing on the summit of Black Dome Mountain is breathing 4000 foot air. We’ll summit all three (Black Dome, Blackhead, and Thomas Cole) on this 8 mile trail hike with almost 3000 feet of elevation gain and a few short scrambles. This is a challenging hike and you’ll need to carry plenty of drinking water. Registration by July 7. Leader: Ed Moran edmoran@gmail.com 631-741-3765. Joint with Catskill 3500 Club.

Genesee Valley Chapter
Join us to enjoy Powder Mills Park for a 3-hour, 5-6 mile loop/out and back hike. Meet at the Parking Lot on Park Road adjacent to Rand Lodge. We'll meet at 8:45 for a 9 AM start. This is a hike over rolling ground, poles may be useful especially if we have rain! Bring water, and a snack, dress for the weather, but please leave your dogs at home. Contact leader with any questions.
Additional Information: The Sunday Hikes are offered as a benefit to current and potential new members of ADK. All our hikes have a steady pace, so are not "nature strolls" but they are also not "endurance tests" although we do at times hike at a brisk pace. Bring plenty to drink. Equally important is the proper footwear, gear and clothing for changing conditions. Our hikes are planned to last about 3 hours, but many times unexpected delays can occur, so if you are pressed for time, this hike may not be a good fit. We're always looking for new places to go and additional leaders. Minors are welcome when accompanied by a parent…

Whiteface from Lake Placid
Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter
The path less travelled to Whiteface, this is a favorite summer hike. After walking past quiet Connery Pond, we'll get to Whiteface Landing on Lake Placid in time for a snack on the floating dock. Will the dock still be tilted, or will they have finally fixed it? The real ascent begins once we reach the Whiteface Lean-to. The views will appear as we approach the summit before our final climb up the open, rocky south face of the mountain to find all the people who drove up crowding the top. Our lunch spot will be a quieter place below the summit. The best part is a swim off the dock on the way back, so bring your swimsuit and hope for warm but not too hot weather. Round trip distance is 12.4 miles with 3,232 feet of elevation change. Meet at the park and ride at the north end of Media Drive near Northway Exit 18. Sign up is only by email to the leader.

Bear Slides Hike & Bike
Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter
A few of us are scheduling activities where if you complete 8 of them you can complete the Gateway 8 Challenge. If you come along and bicycle, you can complete 2 of the challenges today. We will meet at the Luzerne Market and bicycle to the bear slides trailhead, and then hike the last mile to the actual bear slides. I've been there several times and they are very unique. The official bike route is 16.3 miles and has a few hills. If you don't care about the challenge, you can just bike back along the river and skip the hills. The hike part is very easy and is about 2 miles with minimal elevation gain. If you don't want to do the bike part, you are welcome to join us just for the hike. It will probably take us about an hour to bicycle there, so figure 11:00 AM. The last part of the road to the trailhead is dirt. I'll be riding my mountain bike, but you probably are okay with any bike as long as the tires aren't too skinny.

Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter
This is another one of the Gateway Challenge activities. The ride is 21.3 miles. We will meet at the big park in Stony Creek and ride to Harrisburg Lake and then ride the same route back. It is all uphill there, and obviously all downhill back. The climb isn't real steep, but it is long. The road has very little traffic so it is nice and quiet and scenic. Somehow I want to combine dinner with it. Possibly the Harris Lake Lodge or the Stony Creek Inn. I'll make a few calls before we go. Elk Lake-Marcy trail to Panther Gorge, Haystack, Marcy and Skylight [camp/hike]
Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter
Two night backpacking trip. Starting Friday morning, September 26th, from the Elk Lake parking area, we'll hike the Elk Lake-Marcy trail to Panther Gorge to set up camp for 2 nights, and return Sunday morning, September 28th. Day 1: about 9 miles to Panther Gorge and set-up camp. Day 2: loop hike of about 8 miles to Haystack, Marcy and Skylight. Day 3: break camp and return to Elk Lake parking area and civilization. Day 2 will be the loop hike to Haystack, Marcy, Lake Tear of the Clouds and Skylight, and involves some very steep trails, open rock and ledges, and several thousand feet of climbing and descent. And no, we will not be climbing Gray. The trip requires appropriate tent, overnight equipment, meals and supplies, including a bear-resistant canister. Traditional rocks for Skylight's summit encouraged, but not required. Panther and alien encounters unlikely, and not to be believed in any event. A good book helps at night. Bad weather cancels. On Friday morning we'll meet at the Schroon Lake Tops parking…
