Highlights of Adirondack Mountain Reserve
Albany Chapter
With the start of November, there is no more need for a reservation at AMR, so lets take advantage of that! While this hike is rated A based on the top line numbers, it will overall be a moderate day except for the overall mileage, about half of it is on Lake Road.

Top line numbers: 10.5 miles, 2300 feet of elevation. We will hike up Gill Brook, over to Fish Hawk cliffs and then to Indian Head which has the iconic view of the High Peaks. From there we'll go down to Rainbow Falls and view them from the Weld Trail (the "Don't Be a Dropout" sign you may have seen) and in to the base of the falls. We'll then go along the West River trail to Beaver Meadows falls before we hike back to the road and out. Depending on weather and desire of the group we may not hit all the stops after Indian Head.

Long Island Chapter
A two-peak day (2 separate hikes) tackling a pair of trailless Catskill 35ers. We’ll start with a 3-mile bushwhack to the summit of Halcott Mountain, climbing steep forested slopes with no marked trail. After returning to the cars, we’ll make a short drive to the Spruceton Road Trailhead for another 3-mile bushwhack up Rusk Mountain. Introduction to Winter Backpacking in Pennsylvania (B)
Long Island Chapter
Ready to take your backpacking skills into the cold season? This two-night program at a large group campsite in Hickory Run State Park, White Haven, PA is designed for hikers with some three-season backpacking experience who want to learn how to safely and comfortably camp in winter conditions.
Participants will receive hands-on instruction in cold-weather camping techniques while staying close to their vehicles. Although the campsite is car-accessible, there are no heated facilities. Amenities include a portable toilet (no running water) and a hand pump for drinking water. All activities will be conducted outdoors.
There is no cost for this program, but participants must bring their own food and camping equipment. Some group gear, including winter stoves, may be shared, and a limited amount of gear can be loaned out. Expect to need a sleep system rated to around 0°F—this may require a combination of sleeping bags and pads. In general, we prepare for potential -20°F conditions. Leaders will review each pa…
