Bear Slides to Gay Pond

Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter Let's go on an amazing waterfall hike in the spring, when everything is thawing out! We will hike approximately a half mile on the left side of the Bear Slides to our first destination of the waterfall! It'll be a great opportunity for photos, and depending on the crossing at the beaver dam up top, we might head over to Gay Pond. If we make it to Gay Pond, the trip is approximately 7 miles round trip, but otherwise it'll be an easy walk in the park with other cool stuff to see and only around 2.5 miles. You may need to pack snowshoes, but otherwise you'll definitely need to pack microspikes! We will meet at the Exit 18 park and ride next to the EMS building at 8:00am. Region: Adirondacks. Grace Peak (East Dix) via Spotted Mountain Hike/Bushwhack

Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter From Route 73, this route generally follows the South Fork of the Boquet River and along the exposed mountain ridge to Spotted Mountain and Grace Peak, providing excellent views. The South Fork of the Boquet River can be found along Rt 73 just after the Route 9 intersection where there is a small pull-off on the left to park. The route starts on the left side of the parking area along a steep bank, generally following the river although often not in sight until the herd path returns and we follow it a short distance to a fork, where we'll go in-between the two river branches and head west to a ridge and up a few scrambles to Elizabethtown #4 and mostly open ridgeline created by the Great Fire of 1903. Continuing along the ridge in a south/southwest direction we'll reach Spotted Mountain and more open views, and continue along the ridge to our final destination, Grace Peak (East Dix). There are some spots of very thick Balsam along the way, but also many open areas with excellent open views. On our return rout… Region: Adirondacks - High Peaks. Type: Chapter Outings. Tongue Range - Trail Work

Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter This is the annual trail work day that the chapter has done for many years, usually led by Tom Ellis. This year I'm helping Tom out. I'm hoping, if we get enough people, to split into 2 groups, and going from each end and meeting at the lean-to. That way, we automatically spot cars, everyone gets to participate, and only the Clay Meadow group has to hike the whole distance. We also might send a fast group out to Deer Leap. We pretty much have enough tools, but if you have a good prunning saw, loppers, or hand prunners, it wouldn't hurt to bring them. We are mainly clearing blowdown, but also a little bit of water bar cleaning, and side cutting. No experience necessary, we will teach you. We'll meet at Panera Bread at 9 am. Region: Adirondacks. Paddle - Pine Creek

Genesee Valley Chapter This trip was a lot of fun last year!!!  It is weather dependent.  On Saturday we will be paddling a section of the creek that is beautiful and not the white water that is associated with "Pine Creek".  Last year the water was high enough, we did not have to deal with rocks but at different water levels that can be an issue.  You will NOT want to bring your lightweight kevlar boats!!!  If the water levels are not good, there is a plan B - to paddle nearby lakes. , If folks want to stay and paddle Sunday there are a number of options.  Scott Lee can help folks paddle through the more aggressive areas of the creek (in boats, rafts etc(rentals).  There are lovely hiking and biking trails if you choose not to paddle or other places to paddle nearby.  Sunday is NOT an ADK event!! , Some folks drove down Saturday morning last year (about 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive), some rented an air b&b and I think some stayed in motel.  Camping is an option also but chilly!! , Please let us know if you are planning to… Region: Genesee Valley Region.
