Evening Paddle Klammer Mohawk River
Albany Chapter
Note: A good rule of thumb to follow is the "120° rule." This means you should wear a wetsuit or dry suit whenever the sum of the air temperature and water temperature is equal to or less than 120°F. Warm weather does not cancel out the danger of cold water. If you don't have the appropriate attire for cold-water paddling, please wait to join us until the water is warmer.
Be on the water BEFORE 6:00pm. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
The launch is located at the intersection of Towpath, Beach and Clamsteam Rds. across from The Klammer (former Clamsteam Tavern).
We will probably paddle upstream and into to Old Canal.
Please sign-up at auntmayor@aol.com by noon on the day of the paddle and give your cell phone number for last minute changes, which will be announced via text if conditions change.
You must wear a securely fastened PFD, and have a white light and whistle (required). NO cotton clothing.

Two-hour hybrid hike in Irondequoit Bay Park West split between a 1.2 mile one-way hike with a climb at the start, cutting south across the park and descending to the other parking lot on Orchard Park Blvd, then a 2.8 mile second hike at a faster pace with 500' elevation ascent/descent on the Red, Orange, Blue and Purple trails. If you're only doing the first hike, please RSVP to coordinate a shuttle ride to the start of the hike. Meet at 9:45am in the in the Irondequoit Bay Park West parking lot (43.18910, -77.53007) on S Glen Rd/Bay Front S. next to the Irondequoit Bay Fish & Game Club for a 10:00am hike start. Please dress for the weather, wear boots or trail shoes with good traction, bring some water to drink and with the warming weather some tick repellent. North Jersey Ramapo Chapter
This is a strenuous 5.3-mile hike with multiple challenging rock scrambles to summit two Catskill High Peaks. Breathtaking views of the Catskills will reward our effort. This is a T - shaped route, first ascending the Mink Hollow Trail (B), then ascending the Devil's Path (R) to Plateau summit, returning and then ascending the Devil's Path (R) to Sugarloaf summit, returning to the cars via the R and B trails. (See Catskill Trail Map 141). Bring clothes for layering, microspikes, poles, sufficient water, and food. Any inclement weather will postpone this hike. Co-Leaders: Liz Cole and Anastasia Tavarez.

Cold River Chapter
This 1.75 mile hike along the eastern shore of Lake George follows a winding, switchback carriage road built by George Knapp in the early 1900s ascending 800 feet to the summit of Shelving Rock Mountain. Once we reach the summit, we will descend to a lower ledge overlooking the Narrows of Lake George where we will take a break to enjoy the views. After a snack/lunch at the overlook, we’ll head back the way we came.
Take Exit 21 off the I-87 Northway for NY-9N toward Lake Luzerne turning left onto 9N. After 0.4 miles, turn right onto 9 South towards the Outlets. After 2.6 miles, turn left onto Route 149 East. Drive 6 miles and turn left onto Buttermilk Falls Road. Drive 11 miles along this road which changes from Buttermilk Falls Road to Sly Pond Road to Shelving Rock Road and becomes a dirt road along the way. As you approach the Hog Town Parking Lot, bear left and continue another 2.5 miles on Shelving Rock Road across a small bridge to Parking Lot #3 which will be on your left.

Jabe Pond Fishing/ Paddle

Jabe Pond is a lovely wilderness pond with Brown, Rainbow and Brook Trout. Artificial lures only, minimum keeper size 12”. There is a parking lot very close to the Pond. However, if the road leading to the parking lot is closed, this makes it a Difficult 1 mile carry in with one very steep hill. The leader will check on the road in advance and notify participants of the road status. Paddlers are welcome to join. The boat launch is directly off Route 8. If you’re coming east on Route 8, it’s on your left soon after the intersection of Palisades Road.

Bike the Erie Canal from Lock 32 to Buffalo Road & return

Bike the Erie Canal towpath through suburban, urban park and industrial sections of Monroe County. We meet at the Lock 32 parking lot at 2759 Clover Street, Pittsford (opposite Framingham Lane) at 9:45 AM. At 10:00, we will ride west on the Erie Canal Trail, through Genesee Valley Park to Buffalo Road in Gates, then return to Lock 32. The roughly 16-mile round trip is mostly flat, with gravel or paved surfaces. Please wear your helmet, dress for the weather and bring water and a snack. You must read and sign the ADK’s “Release of Liability” form which I will have at the parking lot. Expect about a two and a half hour ride with stops. Tabletop and Indian Falls

This hike starts from the Adirondack Loj and follows a highly traveled route to Marcy Dam. From here the Van Hoevenberg trail continues along a scenic trail following Phelps Brook toward Mount Marcy, passing the Phelps trail, and at 4 miles reach the well worn herd path for Tabletop, about 0.1 miles before Indian Falls. From the turn onto the herd path, it is about 0.7 miles to the summit. The herd-path is narrow in areas, heavily eroded, and has running water in many spots. The summit is totally wooded, but located just beyond the signed summit are open views of the Great Range. On our return we'll visit Indian Falls to hog some views. Total elevation gain of about 2,650 feet and 9.7 miles round trip. Meet-up at the Schroon Lake Tops at 6:30 am, or the HPIC at 7:45 am. Rain cancels.

Please be ready to be in the water at 11:45 am sharp. Bring a cart or wheels to get your boat to the launch from the parking area. We will clean up along the shore as we go into the marsh. I will bring trash bags & have some gloves, there may not be enough gloves for everyone. Please bring disposable gloves & a grabber tool if you have one. We will collect trash from the water& keep the bags on our boats. Anything large we will try to tow if possible. Riverkeeper will take the trash from Long Dock.

Launch time is 11:30 am so PLEASE get there early to park, & get your boat to the water, wheels/cart helpful. I like to have a pre-meeting & get all waivers signed PRIOR to launching at least 15 minutes before time. Dress appropriately for immersion. Pack a change of clothes, include a polar fleece top & put them in a dry bag in your hatch. All boats over 10’ welcome, kayaks, canoes, SOT’s, surfskis OK, no inflatables. Join us for a 10-11 mile or so one-way hike along the Letchworth Branch Trail of the Finger Lakes Trail system, ending at the Park's Visitor Center. We'll leave a car there, then drive south to another parking area to start our hike. The trail is a rough dirt path with lots of small up and downs, for a B rating. Meet at 8:45 a.m. at Frontier Commons near the intersection of 390 and Jefferson Road and leave for Letchworth via carpool at 9:00. We won't be back until late afternoon, so if you are pressed for time, this isn't a good match. Bring a lunch for the trail. Also, bring cash for the carpool drivers. The carpool cost will be $24/car divided by the number of riders. (e.g. 2 cars/8 riders=48/8=$6.) Call the leader with questions. Paddle - West River

We will carry our boats a short distance down the old railroad bed and launch there. Jim assures us he will be there to help with the launch site. We will paddle out toward the old rookery, hoping to find heron (or eagle). A few boats at a time should approach the area in silence as we are paddling into the birds' space and we do not want to scare.
If after we return to our put in, we have not yet paddled 2 hours, we will paddle under the bridge (if possible ) and continue into that portion of the West River. This is a nice paddle to start the season with! Of course we will help each other with the carry.
Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear you PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers.

From there, we will turn right onto the S–BM Trail, passing the Third Reservoir, and continue to the T–MI Trail, where we will make a right to return via Seven Hills back to the Sebago Boat Launch. Ledge Pond is a beautiful remote head water pond located at the western boundary of the St. Regis Canoe Area, accessible via Long and Pink ponds. This outing requires 2 moderate/strenuous carries, totaling 3/4 mile each way. Registrants must be able to carry their canoe/kayak themselves over tricky terrain. Following the initial (easy) carry into Long Pond, it’s a rather short paddle to Pink Pond and the narrow waterway at the far end that continues part of the way to Ledge Pond. The final segment is a slight uphill trail 1/2 mile carry (over a narrow and semi-rugged trail, ending at Ledge Pond. There are beautiful ledges and untouched shores to observe from the water; it's a true paddlers delight. While the total distance to/from Ledge Pond is relatively short, finding and navigating the trail route to Ledge can be tricky, as navigability from Pink Pond into Ledge may depend on the water level, time of year and/or beaver activity in the area. Our chapter currently maintains 72 miles on the FLT and lean-tos. Fifty-Seven miles are concurrent with the NCT. No special skills are required just a genuine desire to ensure that our trails are clear and blazed for all hikers to enjoy. Ride with us on the Auburn rail-trail from Main Street Fishers, Victor to Mertensia Park in Farmington with hopes of enjoying the blooming bluebells. We meet at 9:45 at the Auburn Trail parking area on Railroad St just off Main Street Fishers, Victor, NY. We will bike southeast on the Auburn Trail, a relatively packed gravel trail with occasional loose gravel. There is also a short section on suburban streets. Upon reaching Mertensia Park, we will walk a few hundred yards to the bluebell area. Round trip biking distance is 13 miles. Plan for a two and a half hour outing. Wheels start rolling at 10:00 AM. This week’s ride will be along the Kirkland Trail as the title suggests, but it runs into the Deansboro Towpath for an extended adventure! The trail is an unpaved railroad bed so gravel bikes or mountain bikes will be best. The trail is relatively flat with little to no elevation. The total distance is just over 12 miles. The DEC boat launch is at the southern end of East Lake Rd in the village of Honeoye. There is a sign for the launch! (6150 East Lake Rd.)

We will launch from the boat launch and cross the south end of the lake then turn into the inlet. The inlet begins with a swampy area, and sometimes a small beaver dam, then into a clear channel. There are usually lots of birds, turtles and spring plants in this area. We'll paddle for an hour, stop for a snack, then paddle back to our starting point. There are bathrooms at the DEC put in. If you are over 60 and have a drivers license- you can park for free. Insert your license in the kiosk at the entrance.

From the trailhead, we will head north on the Kakiat Trail (white blaze), then turn right onto Torne Valley Road and follow it to Pine Meadow Lake, where we will stop for lunch. Afterward, we will retrace our steps along Torne Valley Road and return to the parking lot via the Kakiat Trail. This is a strenuous hike. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. Observe a citizen science collaboration at a bird banding station on the Crown Point site. The volunteers set mist nets to collect, document and band migrating songbirds. Due to the location under the Atlantic Flyway, the site is a premier location for viewing birds migrating north for the season. Watch this experienced team of citizen scientists net hundreds of birds, identify and measure species and record their songs. Viewing tables are set a safe distance from the workstations enabling the public to observe banders at work. Join this outing to see nature at its most mysterious in action.
And that’s not all! Crown Point will have an archaeological field school working on site on May 14 as well. This will be their third consecutive year hosting a Syracuse University Field School, where students and faculty are excavating a site where some soil and rocks were dumped in the 1960s. Join us for an easy-going 14 mile bike from Ontario Beach to the Seneca Park Zoo and return. We will ride south on the Genesee River Trail, along the boardwalk at Turning Point Park, across the Genesee River over the pedestrian bridge, past the Zoo on the loop around Trout Pond, and then return. There is some elevation at the Turning Point, pedestrian bridge, and Zoo portions. Plan for about a two and a half hour outing. If interested, we may go to Abbotts for frozen custard after the ride. We will meet at 9:45 at the Ontario Beach Park parking lot (43.257359, -77.607379) near the public restrooms. Wheels start rolling at 10:00 AM. Be ready to be in the water at 9:45 am, this is tidal and we leave on time. Please get there early to unload your boat, park your car and be dressed for immersion. Hi tide is 10:50 am, 3'; Low tide is 5:38 pm, 0.3' we will have an assist both ways. Bring wheels.
This paddle shows the beauty of the Hudson River & highlands as we travel north under the Bear Mt bridge, Popolopen Suspension bridge and the bridge over 9W. REMEMBER when going under the Popolopen bridge use the LAST trestle as there are obstructions under the others and you could snag.
You should be able to paddle at a pace to keep up with the group. Sea Kayaks only 14' minimum, no canoes, SOT's, SUP's, inflatables, Surf Skiis OK, no Pets. You should know how to assist/self rescue. Note there could be waves, wakes, wind current, please know your ability in these conditions. If you have a marine radio, please bring it with you.

We will warm up on the gradual ski trail and then begin our climb. McKenzie has five summits, the last of which has a couple of ledges with spectacular views. McKenzie is a challenging mountain. I welcome anyone who is willing to hike at a sustained pace, while enjoying the beauty of the woods, the views and the company. This will be an out and back with a potential trip to Haystack on the way back down. This will add about 2 more miles and 500 more feet of elevation. Space is limited.

Join us for a full day paddle (10.5 miles) around Howland Island. The island is a state wildlife refuge adjacent to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. Sightings of eagles and other birds are relatively frequent. The paddle is also fairly well screened from winds, and has only occasional cottages/camps. This is NOT a beginner paddle
, as the distance requires faster pace than the usual Monday Chapter paddles...around 3 miles per hour (Monday paddles average 2 miles per hour). Plan on arriving back in Rochester in the late afternoon!!!

This hike is one of the best “not a High Peaks” hike, with about 2000’ of elevation gain. There is a rock summit, which affords 360-degree views of the High Peaks. It also has a fire tower, which, if open, allows for additional panoramic views. The hike starts with a steady climb. It levels out a bit before climbing again for the last third.

Clark Hall Jr. Memorial Day Work-Play Weekend (B),
The Klondike Notch Trail in the Adirondacks High Peaks Region again needs your help. We will be working on an historic trail that the Niagara Frontier Chapter has been maintaining for over 40 years. Join us on Sunday as we make improvements to the trail; cleaning water bars, removing blow-down, and maintaining the Klondike lean-to. We are responsible for the 4.5 miles of the trail from the end of South Meadows Rd. to the Yard Mountain turnoff. Saturday and Monday offer the opportunity for Adirondack hikes of all levels. Also available are all the attractions of Lake Placid. A potluck dinner is planned for one weekend evening in Saranac Lake at the home of some ADK pioneers. This year I will be staying in the Loj campground. I have campsites 8 and 9 reserved from Friday afternoon until Monday morning. Some trail work experience is recommended. Bike the Lehigh Valley Trail East

Enjoy cycling a Rochester rail-to-trail through woods, past farms and neighborhoods, and over a trestle. We'll meet at 9:45 AM to ride the Lehigh Valley Trail east from Rochester Junction, Mendon to the Lehigh Crossing Park in Victor, then return. We will ride this flat, mostly gravel and dirt trail starting at 10:00 AM. The round trip is approx. 17 miles and we will make occasional stops. Please wear your helmet, dress for the weather and bring water and a snack. You must read and sign the “club’s release of liability form” which I will have at the parking lot. Maintenance trip to Bailey Pond and Hoffman Notch trails

Our chapter maintains Bailey Pond and the southern end of Hoffman Notch trails. Both trails start at Lock Muller trailhead. Trails are short, 0.9 and 1.3 miles, respectively, so we will do both in one day. These are established old trails, so work is mainly side cutting and removing any blowdown. The tools that you may want to bring are loppers.
We will meet at Malta (exit 12) park and ride, and carpool to the trailhead. We will be spending 4-5 hours on the trail, depending on work. The meeting time will be communicated to registered participants.

Lyon Mountain Fire Tower

A challenging fire tower hike with a long drive for those pursuing the ADK Firetower Challenge. Lyon is actually 10 ft taller than Couchsachraga! On a clear day you can see the city of Montreal and the High Peaks! Trailhead is at the ruins of the defunct Lowenberg Ski Area and this spot is known for getting high snowfall. We won't know conditions until closer to the hike. Trailhead may require 4 wheel drive- it is 1 mile on a rutted dirt road that is not maintained in winter. Full on mud season will cancel as we do NOT want to erode our trails further. Prepare for possible black flies with head net, spray of choice and light colored clothing.

Hike the unique Alvar landscape at this Nature Conservancy property in northern New York. There are many unusual flowers that bloom in this area, the yellow orchids and prairie smoke should be in bloom. We will hike slowly with many opportunities to explore the area and take pictures. The Great Swamp is one of the largest wetlands in New York, and it’s right in our backyard! Paddlers often see painted turtles, herons, red-wing blackbirds, kingfishers, dragonflies, and an occasional beaver. About 4-6 miles of paddling in quiet waters at a moderate pace. Pharaoh Mountain and Lake Pink Lady Slippers Loop

Starting at the Crane Pond trailhead, we'll hike about 3.2 miles to Pharaoh Mountain, and climb about 1,500 of elevation, where we'll look for the Pink Lady Slippers in full bloom, and enjoy several viewpoints all around, including where the former fire tower once stood at 2,556 feet. From there, we'll drop down the other side about 2 miles to Pharaoh Lake, and continue the loop hike for 4 miles to Glidden Marsh, and a short spur trail to Oxshoe Pond, and then back to Crane Pond. Meet-up at the Schroon Lake Tops at 7:00 am to ensure we have suitable vehicles to access Crane Pond Road to the trailhead. Rain cancels.

Trailhead: From Bear Mountain Circle travel south on 9W, parking area will be on the right. Coordinates: 41.28109, -73.96295. Meet at 8:30 AM. This strenuous loop hike offers spectacular views of the Hudson River, surrounding mountains, and the remains of a 19th century spiral railway including two tunnels. We will be following the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail and the Timp Torne Trail. This hike will take approximately 6.5 hours to complete. It will be worth the time and effort. This is always a nice paddle!!! We'll meet at the DEC parking lot at the south end of Canandaigua Lake (Rt. 21)....if you get to Naples you're way too far!!! We'll launch our boats and paddle along the end of the lake turning right into the West River....sometimes there is an eagle greeting us at this turn!! We'll paddle through this swampy area for an hour then turn back to our launch site.
Please arrive by 9:45, and bring a snack and water. Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear your PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers.

Join us for an overnight backpacking trip into the interior, Friday/Saturday June 5th/6th. We will meet at Upper Works Trailhead at 7:00 am and hike the Calamity Trail passing Flowed Lands and Lake Colden into the Uphill Lean-to on Friday- about 7 miles and 1750 ft. On Saturday we will pass Lake Tear of the Clouds, the headwaters of the mighty Hudson, to hike Skylight carefully seeking alpine azalea, which blooms around this time each year, only on Skylight. It is about 2 miles and 1,650 ft to the summit and then 9 miles back to Upper Works Trailhead. Total distance about 18 miles with 3,500 feet of elevation gain total. It's a good idea to bring a tent in case the lean-to is occupied. Temperatures could be a lot colder than you think- dress for winter and no less than a 20 degree sleeping bag. Paddle the Bashakill One-Way with Shuttle

Join us as we kayak/canoe the beautiful marsh of the Bashakill Wildlife Management Area in Wurtsboro, N.Y. Late spring is a good time to paddle the marsh; the birds are plentiful, and the weeds have not yet clogged the waterways. This was a new paddle last year that we really enjoyed. It will be a guided paddle again on the beautiful Chemung River. We will be paddling for about 2 hours, stopping for lunch and then continuing to our take out.
Where: Meet at Bottcher's Landing off the South Corning Road, or Route 10, in Big Flats. The nearly 7 mile trip will end at the Grove Street Boat Launch at the dead end of Grove Street in downtown Elmira. The road goes over the grass flood levee. Both launches have ample room for parking.
Procedure: Unload our boats and equipment at Bottcher's. Drive several vehicles to Grove Street, drop them off, and return to Bottcher's. We hope to be on the water by 10:30 a.m. At the end of the trip, we will drive paddlers, who left their vehicles at Bottcher's, back to Bottcher's to get their vehicles.

From the Garden parking lot in Keene our trail begins by climbing to a series of prominences along the ridge leading to the Brothers at 1.5, 1.9 and 2.6 miles. Each offers spectacular views of the Great Range. From the Third Brother our 1.1 mile easy to moderate trail takes us to a junction with the Slide Brook Trail. From there the final 0.2 mile climb to Big Slide’s summit is steep but fairly short. From the summit we’ll get an amazing open view of Giant, the Great Range, distant Dix, Marcy, Algonquin, and more. Be prepared for some short steep rock scrambles that will require balance and dexterity.

Difficulty - Class I-II
Intermediate/Novice whitewater instruction for kayakers will be offered on June 13 thru 14 by the Albany-Schenectady chapter of ADK. This two-day clinic is designed for boaters who have had some previous experience but still need more work to perfect the basic strokes and maneuvers. Students should have paddled class 1 or 2 whitewater five or more times and be able to perform eddy turns, peelouts, and ferries on class 1 water. They should be able to paddle in a straight line, identify river features including eddies, waves, and holes, and self-rescue in class 1 and 2 water. Kayakers should have or be working on a roll and must be comfortable with wet exits. We will start on flat water to refine paddling techniques as well as rolls. On the river we will work on performing crisp reliable eddy turns, peel-outs, angle control on ferries, and gaining overall experience. Instruction will start at 8:00 a.m.…

We’ll launch at 11:30 am to cross the river & make the high tide at Ramshorn Creek. Please arrive early enough to get yourself ready & park. We will have a pre-meeting & sign waivers 15 minutes prior to launching. This paddle is tide dependent & we will leave on time.

Ramshorn creek is a tidal winding creek. Many bird species, beaver etc frequent this area. The takeout is a small dock & we’ll help each other get out. We can have lunch/rest here & walk to the observation tower. On our return we’ll cross the river & go into Roecliff Jansen Kill. This was the traditional boundary between the Native American Mahican & Wappinger tribes. Well then continue a short distance back to the launch.

Sea kayaks only 14’ minimum with bulkheads and/or floatbags. No canoes, SOT’s, inflatables. Surf skis ok. Dress for immersion & pack a change of clothes in a dry bag & put it in your hatch. Everyone should know how to assist/self rescue.

This is always a really nice paddle!!! We'll launch our boats at the new launch site in the park - paddle to the left for an hour, then raft up for snacks and return to our put in.
Please arrive by 9:45. The entrance to the park is on the south side of the bridge - Park St. - it is across from a cemetery a left turn. Once on Park St. stay to the right and you'll see the park and the launch site over to your right.
Sometimes folks bring a lunch and sit at the picnic tables to eat after the paddle - you're welcome to do this.
Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear you PFD correctly and keep an eye on fellow paddlers!

This 2.5-mile out-and-back trail is near Willsboro, New York and is generally considered an easy,
route. This trail takes hikers through a small patch of forest, then through a picturesque field,
along wetlands and a small pond. It then enters into a diverse forest with several ancient oak,
trees and unexpected rock outcrops. We will also follow the nearby Noblewood Park Trail toLake Champlain.

DEC and the Adirondack Mountain Reserve (AMR) launched a no-cost reservation system to address public safety at a heavily traveled stretch on Route 73 in the town of Keene in the Adirondack High Peaks. The Adirondack Mountain Reserve is a privately owned 7,000-acre land parcel located in the town of Keene Valley that allows for limited public access through a conservation easement agreement with DEC. The reservation system does not apply to other areas in the Adirondack Park. Celebrate hiking, community, and summer with the Adirondack Mountain Club North Jersey Ramapo Chapter! Join us for a morning hike and afternoon picnic at the beautiful Silvermine
Picnic Area in Harriman State Park. Your significant other, as well as your family and friends, are welcome. We will offer multiple morning hike options to accommodate different paces and distances, all returning near Silvermine. Afterward, we’ll gather for a relaxed group picnic to enjoy good food, great company, and Harriman’s summer vibes.

We start promptly, heading out on the Menomine Trail, then east on the Red Cross Trail, followed by a northward route on the Owl Lake Road, and finally north on the 1779 Trail. From there, we proceed to the R-D/AT, then return to the Menomine Trail, continuing back to the parking lot. Bring water, snacks, gaiters, hiking boots, and hiking poles. This hike is moderate to strenuous. It is a version of the one described in Chapter 15 of Don Weise's "Circuit Hikes in Harriman". Severe inclement weather cancels. Our route will follow the Reeves Brook Trail (white), left onto Raccoon Brook (blue), left onto Hillburn–Torne–Sebago (orange), right onto Seven Hills (blue), right onto Diamond Mountain (yellow), right again onto Seven Hills (blue), left onto T-MI (red), and left onto Stony Brook (yellow), continuing to Pine Meadow (red) and back to the cars. This is a strenuous hike. Please bring water and lunch. Hiking boots are required, and trekking poles are recommended. In winter conditions, participants must also carry proper outerwear, warm layers, gaiters, microspikes, snowshoes, and a headlamp. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. This is a joint offering with Hillview Free Library's Guest Artist Sarah Barker and ADK Chapter GFS. Hike and be inspired by the beauty of nature in the Adirondacks. Hike on the LGLC Bradley Trail in Bolton Landing. This is a very moderate trail with only gradual gain. The trail that leads to a stunning view of lake George with the guidance of abstract painter Sarah Barker feel into the view scape and make it your own by feeling with your heart and connecting to what inspires you in the landscape. Translate it into a visual you can keep that captures the moment for you. The feeling the colors the movement. In an abstract way as did Georgia O'Keeffe's a revered painter who spent a lot of time in the lake George area a hundred years ago. You can use different techniques to create your own abstraction of the way you feel and the things you see on this hike and paint time. A scenic hike from the Upper Works along the Indian Pass Trail to Indian Pass, and then 0.6 mile bushwhack up to the cliffs of Wallface with 970 feet of elevation gain off trail. Some excellent views in good weather. About 9.8 miles round trip with an elevation gain around 2100 feet. Meet up at the Schroon Lake Tops at 8:30 am, or the Upper Works parking area at 9:15 am. We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Appalachian Trail Parking on Rt 17A (GPS N41°14.657, W74°17.230) and carpool to the start of the hike, which is the State Line Trail – parking across from the Greenwood Lake Marina on Rt 511 (Lakeshore Drive). The start of the hike will be a decent climb with rock scramble on the State Line Trail. We will reach the NY/NJ mark on the AT and hike north to Rt 17A. Welcome to the highest point of the Appalachian Trail in the Empire State! As you head north from the New York/New Jersey state line, you’ll quickly reach Prospect Rock, which sits at 1,433 feet above sea level. From this rocky perch, you are treated to a spectacular birds-eye view of Greenwood Lake stretching out below you. The trail follows the ridge of Bellvale Mountain; terrific views of Greenwood Lake and the surrounding mountains make for an enjoyable hike on a sneaky rugged section of the AT. We will meet and launch from behind the Finger Lakes Museum located near the intersection of Rt. 54A and Cr. 29, behind the Branchport Fire Dept (located on Rt. 54A). There are entrances off both 54A and cr. 29. Drive BEHIND the barn to the boat launch, do NOT use the boat launch to the south of Rt. 54A or you may miss the group. (https://fingerlakesmuseum.org)
We will paddle south from the museum on Sugar Creek passing through the Townsend Grady Wildlife Preserve exploring the marshlands while we make our way to the west branch of Keuka Lake where we will paddle up the East side of the branch before returning on the West side and back into Sugar Creek. There are bathrooms at the museum as well as hiking trails. There is a section of Sugar Creek to the north of the museum that can also be explored if time permits, estimate this to be a 2 - 2 1/2 hour paddle. A good portion of the paddle will be in open water and subject to water conditions and weather.

We pass the Stone Tower and Castle Ruins, proceed on the Cannonball Trail then head north on the Wanaque Ridge Trail. We loop around the Wanaque Ridge, then pick up the Cannonball and Ramapo Lake Loop staying west of Ramapo Lake. We return on the Cannonball to the Castle Loop Trail taking it to the parking lot. This will be a paddle around the shoreline of this picturesque Lake
The launch site is the DEC boat launch at the north end of the lake. (Take Rt. 15A through the hamlet of Hamlock, traveling south. Go past the end of Hamlock Lake, keep going on Rt. 15A S. You'll turn left on Purcell Hill Rd. At the end of the road, turn right on Canadice Lake Rd. and watch for the DEC kiosk on the right. You can drive down to the lake to unload your boat but you need to park along the road.) If fishermen are using the launch also - we'll keep our boats over to the right shoreline to provide them access to the launch with their trailers.

Lake George has fireworks every Thursday night at 9:30. We can hike up Prospect Mountain and enjoy the show at the top. I plan on using the trail from the village which is 3 miles and 1,532 feet of elevation gain. Parking can be difficult. Backup plan is to switch and begin from the Rec Center. Email or text to get final determination. The hike fom the rec center is 5 miles with a similar elevation.

This is a lovely paddle up through the creek! We'll paddle as far as our time permits. We'll put our boats in at LaSalle Park and paddle up into the creek for an hour. We'll stop for a snack then return to our launch site. This is a "one boat at a time" launch site so we'll help each other and try to quickly launch the boats. Please be "on the water" for a 10:00 start!

Onondaga Chapter
An amazing 3.2-mile loop of the North Country Trail located within Hemlock Glen in Morgan Hill State Forest. This hike takes you along Hemlock Glen as you ascend Morgan Hill and is one of the best of the North Country National Scenic Trail in New York. The hike features Hemlock Glen, numerous small waterfalls, Hemlock Lean To, and Shackam Brook. This hike begins at Shackham Road, and you'll descend into a camping area next to Shackham Brook. The brook is crossed on a footbridge, and the trail crosses a small stream before beginning to ascend. The trail turns away from Shackham Brook and now enters the numerous small waterfalls of the scenic Hemlock Glen, which will be on your right as you ascend. We will take a break at the lean-to and continue up to Morgan Hill Road. We will then retrace our steps back to Shackham Road.
