Windham High Peak Hike
Albany Chapter
The plan is to hike to Windham High Peak. Spring ephemerals should be out. The trail I am familiar with (from Route 23) is currently closed. I am scouting the hike in mid-April and if it remains closed, we will hike from the Black Dome Range Trailhead instead. The hike is approximately 7.2 miles. Both routes use the Escarpment trail after the initial climb (but approach the peak from different sides). The trail from route 23 has an elevation gain of 1700 feet, the alternate route has an elevation gain a bit over 1900 feet. The latter hike has a small parking lot, so I expect we will meet at 7 or 7:30 at the Delmar Bypass Park and Ride to carpool. I am currently limiting the hike to 10 participants. Please email me if you are interested and I will get back to you with details.

Canadice Lake is a lovely little lake. It'll remind you of the lakes in the AKD's. Marcia and Jim will lead a paddle along the shoreline of the lake - it takes just about 2 hours. I suspect the group will stop at the half way point for snacks and drinks.

The launch site is the DEC boat launch at the north end of the lake. Take rt. 15A through the hamlet of Hemlock traveling south. Go past the end of Hemlock lake, keep going on rt s15A You'll turn left on Purcell Hill rd. At the end of the road turn right on Canadice Lake Rd and watch for the DEC kiosk on the right (maybe a mile or so). You can drive down to the lake to unload your boat and gear, then drive up to the road to park. If fishermen are using the launch also - we'll keep our boats over to the right of the shoreline.

Carlton Hill Multiple Use Area (MUA)
Genesee Valley Chapter
Moderately strenuous (due to length) 10 - 12 mile hike with ~1,400 - 1,800’ of elevation gain. This is not a beginner’s hike. Depending on group size and pace, this hike could take 6 to 7 hours, so please plan accordingly. If you have time constraints, this may not be the hike for you. Please bring a lunch, snacks, plenty of water and a positive attitude.
If you have never hiked Carlton Hill, you are in for a treat. I have hiked there several times and I keep exploring new trails. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Rochester so please plan accordingly.
You must contact the hike leader if you are interested in joining. Once I know who is going, I will send out final details (meeting time and location) to the group. You can contact me at Lukecnelson2@gmail.com.
I will also post this hike to our Meetup site.

Paddle - Howland Island
Genesee Valley Chapter
Join us for a full day paddle (10.5 miles) around Howland Island. The island is a state wildlife adjacent to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. Sightings of eagles and other birds are relatively frequent. The paddle is also fairly well screened from winds, and has only occasional cottages/camps. This is NOT a beginner paddle, as the distance requires a pace faster than the usual Monday chapter paddles....around 3 miles per hour on the average (Mondays average 2 miles per hour.) Plan on arriving back in Rochester LATE afternoon.
,
We will gather at the DEC fishing access site on route 5/20 across the street from the entrance to Montazuma Refuge headquarters. We will meet at 9:00 there and drive as a group to the put- in on the canal where it crosses Conquest St. It is important to be on time! as this paddle will take most of the day. Lunch is at a bridge roughly half way through the paddle. Toilet needs are met in the woods!! Bring what you need - binoculars would be helpful for bird sightings.

Paddle -Erie Canal, Palmyra
Genesee Valley Chapter
This is not a difficult paddle! I gave it a B rating because it is a longer paddle, but there are breaks and a longer lunch break!!
,
We will launch at Park Drive in Palmyra, and paddle upstream (against the current, light current usually) on the Erie Canal towards Macedon. We will pass through Locks 29 and 30 before stopping at the canoe park in Macedon for a lunch break, appx. 5 miles. Bring whatever you want to eat and drink. There are rest rooms at the park, we think there are picnic tables. We will then return to Palmyra, again going back through the two lock, and if time permits, a short detour into the Ganargua Creek at the Palmyra Aqueduct. before returning to the cars in Palmyra. This will be about a 5 hour event!
,
There is a nice ice cream parlor a few minutes east of our launch site that will keep Peg happy after the paddle (and hopefully many more folks!),

Paddle - Conesus Lake
Genesee Valley Chapter
Use the address in your map app, not the park name. The small parking lot on your left going south is marked with a brown DEC sign that says Conesus Lake Fishing Access Site. We'll launch off a dock, paddling south to perhaps Long Point Park to stretch our legs before returning north. Might want to bring a picnic because of the distance. PDF required, hydration and sun protection recommended.

There are entrances off both 54A and cr 29. Drive BEHIND the barn to the boat launch, do not use the boat launch to the south of RT 54A unless you want to miss out on donut holes prior to the paddle......Peg will be with the donuts for sure!!!
,
We will paddle south from the museum on Sugar Creek passing through the townsend Grady Wildlife Preserve exploring the marshlands while we make our way to the west branch of Keuka Lake, where we will paddle up the west side of the branch before returning on the east side and back into Sugar Creek. There are Porta Pottis at the museum as well as hiking trails. There is a section of Sugar Creek to paddle north of the museum that can also be explored if time permits, estimate this to be a 2 - 2 1/2 hour paddle. A good portion of the paddle will be on open water and subject to…
