Left (west) onto Sabettis Circle Road (rt 10) (marked with sign to Little Tupper Lake ranger station). OR twenty-six miles south of Tupper Lake turning right (West) on Sabettis Circle Road. Signage on Circle Road is toward Ranger Station & Lake Lila. Two miles past the ranger station road is sign to Lake Lila. Nearly 6 miles on this logging road is the parking lot for Lake Lila. Join us for a longer paddle on the Seneca River. We'll launch from Oak Island Park in Waterloo at 10:00 and paddle on the Seneca River to Geneva State Park where we'll have our lunch. Then we'll return to our put in. This will about a 5 hour paddle with stopping for lunch. Please bring your lunch, water and snacks. We'll travel at a leisurely pace as always and just enjoy the day.
Directions: We will launch in Waterloo at Oak Island Park and boat launch, we will paddle west on the Seneca River appx. 5 miles to the Seneca lake State park where we can stop and have a lunch break. We will then paddle back east to Waterloo, total trip appx. 10 miles. Oak island is located on Oak Street in Waterloo. From Rochester take I90 east to exit 42, turn right onto route 14 heading south, take exit ramp for route 96 east and stay to the right onto Rt. 96 east. Follow Rt. 96 E to N. Note - This hike is cross-posted from the ADK-GVC Event Calendar: https://adk-gvc.org/calendar/, Two-hour hybrid hike in Irondequoit Bay Park West split between a 1.2 mile one-way hike with a climb at the start, cutting south across the park and descending to the other parking lot on Orchard Park Blvd, then a 2.8 mile second hike at a faster pace with 500' elevation ascent/descent on the Red, Orange, Blue and Purple trails. If you're only doing the first hike, please RSVP to coordinate a shuttle ride to the start of the hike. Take Northway exit 10, go right on Usher's Road to the traffic light. Go left on Rt. 9 and the DEC boat launch is on the right about 1.5 miles up.
We will paddle across the lake and explore the Anthony Kill.

You must wear a securely fastened PFD, and have a white light and whistle (required). NO cotton clothing.

We will be doing trail maintenance on a section of the Finger Lakes Trail and the North Country Trail on FLT O-1, O-2, M-21, M-22. Our chapter currently maintains 72 miles on the FLT and lean-tos, 57 miles are concurrent with the NCT. No special skills are required just a genuine desire to ensure that our trails are cleared and blazed for all to enjoy. Please bring a pair of work gloves, personal hand tools, water, lunch, insect repellent, and wear appropriate clothing. Must contact leader to confirm meeting time and location.

Enjoy a scenic fall ride on the Adirondack Rail Trail as we cycle from Tupper Lake to Floodwood and back. This relaxed outing covers approximately 16 miles round-trip, following the smooth, gentle trail through beautiful forest and wetland scenery. This is not a race — we’ll ride at a comfortable pace, enjoy the views, and take breaks as needed. October 8: Hike Pole Hill Pond and Walnut Ridge from the Isabel Godwin Preserve, Padanarum Rd. Bolton Landing. Leader: Moira Goldfarb, ADK Rating: Leader Level 1 C+ (moderate with some steepness), Duration: 4 hours, 4 miles RT. Limit 15, Description: a lovely fall hike through hardwood forest on the red and blue marked trails with a few short and steep sections to the summit of Walnut Ridge. On the return we’ll take a quick detour to the picturesque pond.
Meeting Time and Place: Northway (I-87) Exit 24. Meet in the large parking lot just east of the Northway on the right at 9:30 a.m. to carpool or follow to the trailhead on Padanarum Rd.

We will hike for 2 hours, approx. 4-miles on the hilly trails of Durand Eastman park yellow trail. Meet at 9:45am for a 10:00am hike start. Meet at parking lot C on Lakeshore Blvd. at Durand Eastman park. This is near Horseshoe Road. We'll be in the woods, along the golf course, short pieces along Zoo road and Log Cabin road and hike out along Trott and Durand Eastman lakes. Please dress for the weather, bring water and a snack. Boots or trail shoes and poles may be useful on the trails.
If weather permits, bring a bag lunch and join me near Lake Ontario for a picnic lunch after the hike ends around noon.

Starting at the Riverway Parking Area at 9:30 am, we will lock up our bikes using bike racks there. Drive to Devil's Hole State Park on the Niagara Parkway to park our cars for the day. Parking is free. We will hike South along the Niagara River to the falls, beginning on Devil's Hole Trail. We will climb up and down stone stairs between upper and lower gorge trail sections. At Niagara Falls, we will stop for falls viewing and lunch, then walk to our bikes and ride on the Rim Trail back to our cars at Devil's Hole. Plan for an all day outing. Bring: lunch, snacks and water, bike helmet, lights. Wear shoes comfortable for both hiking and biking. Mid-Hudson Chapter
This hike begins and ends with carriage roads, but will mostly be on trails with great views. It should be high season for the fall colors. Our first destination point is Gertrude’s Nose, reached through rolling hills, leading to a panoramic rock slab ridge. We will take our time here, allowing for photography along the way. Lunch may be eaten here, or further along the trail. From here, we’ll head towards Millbrook Mountain, another scenic viewpoint. On the way, we’ll pass numerous pitch pines, endemic to the area. At Millbrook Mountain, we’ll take another short break before heading down the Millbrook trail. This trail ends at the base of Lake Minnewaska, where we’ll follow the carriage roads back to our vehicles.
As for all hiking trips, dress in layers and carry rain gear. You’ll need your own personal first aid kit and any medications you require. As this will be a full-day hike, bring plenty to drink, snacks, and lunch. You might want insect repellent and sunscreen.

The launch site is the DEC boat launch at the north end of the lake. (Take Rt. 15A through the hamlet of Hemlock, traveling south. Go past the end of Hemlock Lake, keep going on Rt. 15A S. You'll turn left on Purcell Hill Rd. At the end of the road, turn right on Canadice Lake Rd. and watch for the DEC kiosk on the right. You can drive down to the lake to unload your boat but you need to park along the road.) If fishermen are using the launch also - we'll keep our boats over to the right shoreline to provide them access to the launch with their trailers.
Be prepared to sign the ADK liability form, wear your PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers. Bring: boat, PFD, boating supplies, sunscreen, water, snacks (optional)

Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Take the NY Thruway to Exit 22, and after the tollbooth take a right on Rt.144 south for about 4 miles. Then take a left on Westerlo St to Coeymans Landing boat launch.
We will explore the mouth of Hannacroix Creek and the shores of Schodack Island State Park where bald eagles are often seen.

Meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM start from the parking lot on Rt 106 in Harriman Park (GPS 41.22978, -74.06042) where the S-BM crosses Rt.106 at the Big Hill and Jackie Jones trailhead parking. We hike the S-BM south from The ORAK ruins to Jackie Jones Hill, the Big Hill Shelter, and Third and Second Reservoirs for lunch. Sights include the Hudson River, Fire Tower, and Lake Welch. We return on a woods road, Long Path, and S-BM. Be prepared for your hike by bringing a personal first-aid kit, enough water, and food/snacks. Please wear appropriate hiking shoes. Severance Mountain Hike

This 1.2 mile hike is easy-moderate in terms of difficulty and features views of Schroon Lake and Paradox Lake. Unique to this hike is a walk through some tunnels located underneath I-87 in order to head up the mountain. The trail is mostly wide with roots and rocks. While there are a couple of steep(er) pitches, there are plenty of flatter sections to catch your breath. The main outlook provides a panoramic view of the Schroon Lake region, and a spur trail leads to a second outlook which features Paradox Lake and the surrounding area. We'll meet at the boat launch off Lake Ave in Charlotte at the Public launch near the Marina. We will paddle south on the Genesee River. Hopefully the fall leaves will be at peak and this will be a beautiful paddle where we can sometimes see turtles and swans and a large cement freighter. Be sure to dress for the weather as this is getting into fall and will be our last paddle of the season.

Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. On this hike, we will climb 2000’ of elevation over 3 miles. The first mile is on a primarily wide trail with a slight grade with a stream crossing. The ascent through mile 2 becomes steeper and includes a few easy stream crossings. The last .7 mile is steep, but the reward is a 270 degree view of Lake George—Million Dollar Beach to the south, Bolton Landing to the west and the Narrows and the Tongue Mtn Range to the north. Walk on the canal trail, a segment of the Auburn Trail, and to complete a 4-mile route, a loop through quaint Pittsford Cemetery, hoping its maple trees will be at peak. Surfaces include pavement, crushed stone and dirt. Mostly flat with a few gentle rises. Since the Sam Patch will still be using parking at Schoen Place, let's meet behind the Del Monte Lodge at 41 N Main St, Pittsford . Behind the lodge, CONTINUE under the RR bridge to a less used lot between the RR bridge and Grove St. Dress for the weather and bring water. Plan to sign the liability waiver in the parking lot. Our route heads east, rising gently and then dropping about 400 feet to Tirrell Pond. There are two leantos on the pond, each with nice beaches, and a great view of the cliffs on Tirrell Mountain. The Siamese Ponds Wilderness is over 100,000 acres of rolling hills, a few small mountains and 67 bodies of water. The trails hikers enjoy today were created by man's original encroachment centuries ago. But buildings burn down, wooden fences rot, hay fields turn into deer meadows and saplings sprout into trees. The Siamese Ponds Trail, our route, follows much of an old stage coach road from North Creek to Bakers Mills, built in the 1800s. The area is now wilderness. Only the old roads, now trails, and clearings with names like Old Farm Clearing, Burnt Shanty Clearing and Curtis Clearing, remind us of what the area must have been centuries ago.
According to Bruce Wadsworth, author of several guidebooks, "The Siamese Ponds Trail provides a variety of terrain and beauty that should satisfy any backpacker." Join us for an easy-going 14 mile bike from Ontario Beach to the Seneca Park Zoo and return. We will ride south on the Genesee River Trail, along the boardwalk at Turning Point Park, across the Genesee River over the pedestrian bridge, past the Zoo on the loop around Trout Pond, and then return. There is some elevation at Turning Point Park, the pedestrian bridge, and Zoo portions. Plan for about a two and a half hour outing. Please join me for a day hike along the McCarty Hill State Forest and Holimont, sections of the Finger Lakes Trail. The hike will begin at 9 am on Hungry Hollow Road, near the old CCC Camp Seneca just on the outskirts of Ellicottville, NY. The GPS, coordinates are N 42 13.471 W 78 41.929. There is a picnic pavilion at the old, Camp Seneca where we can rest and have a lunch/snack after the hike. The hike will, be a total of 10 miles – 5 miles out and 5 miles back, with a total elevation gain and loss, of 1376 feet. Our Chapter maintains Bailey Pond and southern end of Hoffman Notch trails. Both trails start at Loch Muller trailhead. Trails are relatively short, 0.9 and 1.25 mi, respectively so we will do both in one day. The work is side cutting and blowdown clearing, typically 4-5 hrs on the trail. We will carpool (about 1.5 hrs) from Exit 12 Park and ride in Malta.

In Waterford, turn from Broad St. south onto First St. and drive to the boat launch at its end. Or you can launch from Lansingburgh at the end of 123rd St. off of Second Ave./Rt.4 and meet the rest of the group on the Waterford side.
We will paddle upstream on the Hudson to Campbell Island or explore the shores and waterfalls of Peebles Island.

Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. October 29: Wardsboro Road Hike, Town of Bolton/Hague, Leader: Brendan Hanley, Level: Easy ADK Rating: Leader Level 1, C (Easy), Duration: 3 Hours Limit: 10, Description: During much of the nineteenth century the Wardsboro Road connected the north and south basins of Lake George on the west side of the lake. The road, named for the once “thriving” farming community of Wardsboro, ran (and portions/remnants still run) for 7 miles between upland Hague and Bolton). By the 1920’s most of the residents of Wardsboro had either moved away or died out (along with the community itself). I plan to confine this fall’s outing to a 4 to 5 mile (total out and back) exploration of the southern portion of the Wardsboro Road, including the historic Wardsboro Cemetery. Hopefully other evidence of the abandoned community (cellar holes/stone walls) can also be located. The hike will not include any significant/extended elevation gain. We meet at the Erie-Attica Trail parking lot off Farmers Road in Avon. Our ride starts on the Erie-Attica Trail, cycling over the trestle, then slightly hilly terrain to the Greenway Trail. At the end of the Erie-Attica trail, we turn onto the Greenway trail, heading south until we reach York Landing Road. We then turn around and head back to the parking lot, biking a total of about 16 miles. The trail is mostly stone dust with some grassy patches. Meet at the Erie-Attica parking lot at 9:45 AM with wheels rolling at 10:00. Please wear your helmet, dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Our group is very flexible and we love to be out in the woods for a nice social hike. Contact the leader if weather is questionable or any other questions arise. Hope to see you on a Wednesday hike. Join us for a rewarding fall hike up Mt. Van Hoevenberg, one of the newest sustainably designed trails in the Adirondacks. Opened in October 2018, this route offers a thoughtful, durable trail layout and leads to one of the finest panoramic views of the High Peaks. The hike is 3.6 miles round-trip with an elevation of 2,860 feet. While not a race, the trail does include stair sections, and we will pace ourselves comfortably. Expect the outing to take 4+ hours, including a well-earned break at the summit. We will meet at the trail head register at 9:45 AM, ready to begin hiking at 10:00 AM. Trailhead directions: Finding the start can be a bit tricky at the new Olympic and hiking center. From the parking lot, go through the gate and look left for a blue ORDA sign (not the traditional brown and yellow DEC sign). Walk toward the old bobsled run — from there you’ll see the trailhead and register. After signing in, hikers begin a gentle climb that gradually opens to spectacular High Peaks views. RSVP REQUIRED.

(Rain date: November 12th) – Tackle the longest of the Saranac Lake 6! McKenzie Mountain is a full- day adventure, covering 10 miles round-trip from the Lake Placid side. This route offers a gradual start along a ski trail before transitioning to a red- marked path that climbs steadily toward the summit. Expect a challenging but rewarding outing with excellent views and classic Adirondack terrain. We will meet at 9:45 AM at the Lake Placid / Whiteface Inn Lane Trailhead, ready to begin hiking at 10:00 AM. Trailhead location: Whiteface Inn Lane (County Route 31), off State Route 86, just west of Lake Placid. Parking is roadside — please be careful not to block the road. This approach is the more direct route from Lake Placid. Plan for up to 5 hours to reach the peak and about 4 hours for the return. This is a full-day hike, so be sure to bring lunch, water, snacks, poles, and layered clothing.

We will hike to Bear Swamp going past Scarlet Pond taking the Ridge Loop to the Rocky Mountain Connector Trail. We will then go around Bear Swamp on the Shore Trail back to the Rocky Mountain Connector Trail to the Middle Trail to past the waterfall and back to the parking lot. We head east and south on the R-R all the way to the Crossover, then take the Crossover (W) going east to the Five Ponds Loop (Pi). We follow the loop south around Gatum Pond, then loop north to Weyble Pond. We continue on the Pink past Glasmere Pond, then return on the R-R all the way to the parking area. This hike is moderate. Every Wednesday some of our members take a hike on one of the many trails in CNY. The Wednesday hikes welcome new participants. The participants decide where to go, based on weather and individual schedules. The first Wednesday of each month during spring, summer and fall is usually devoted to trail maintenance. The trails are south of Syracuse, below Rt 80 in general, the Onondaga trail, FLT, and NCT trails give us a variety to choose from. Dress for the weather (in layers). Water and food (light lunch/snack), and any necessities such as raingear are best carried in a small daypack. Walking/hiking poles might be good for balance on rocks and tree roots we encounter, traction spikes and/or snowshoes taken as needed seasonally. Meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM start at Pyramid Mountain Parking, Vistors Center, 472 Boonton Ave, Montville, NJ 07045 (GPS 40.94727, -74.3887). We hike the Blue and Blue Dot Trails north to Tripod Rock, then head south on the Blue and make a right on the Orange Trail. We loop around Orange and return to the parking lot via the Blue. Start 9:30 AM start from the Nyack Beach State Park parking area. For directions enter "698 N. Broadway, Nyack, NY" in Google Maps. We will hike the recently established Boulders Loop & Long Path to reach the summit of Hook Mountain, to enjoy several vistas of the Hudson River. We will then continue on the Long Path and Landing Road for a picnic lunch at the Hudson. Following lunch, we will leisurely stroll on the Bike Path along the river and back to the parking area. Start 9:30 AM at Sterling Forest Visitor Center Parking, 115 Old Forge Rd, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987. Easy walk around Sterling Lake featuring a historic furnace and mine. Be sure to check out the displays in the visitor's center. Catch the blue blaze trail in front of the visitor's center going west. Pass the foundation of an old church on right, then enter the woods. Cross the wooden bridge (over the old sluice for the water wheel) and the furnace is a short side trip to the left. Built in the 1700s, it was restored in the 1950s. Continue on the blue-blazed trail. Comes out on a road and follows it for a while, then enters the woods and continues around the lake, crossing an inlet on a berm. The trail then turns south and begins to climb. Follow back to the visitor's center. We will stop and have lunch on the lake beach at the far side of Sterling lake. Start 9:30 AM at Tom Jones / Bald Rock Trailhead Parking, 1183-1175 County Rd 106, Southfields, NY 10975. This hike begins just off of County Road 106 with moderately challenging steep parts at beginning and ends with an easier middle section. There are great views from tops of both mountains and nice varied terrain in the valleys and by Lake Skenonto. The trail also passes by Tom Jones Shelter. We will stop and have lunch next to Lake Skenonto or at the top of Parker Cabin Mountain depending on timing. The 8th of a 9-part series of shuttle hikes covering the entire Appalachian Trail in NJ - join us for one, some, or all! Arrive by 8:45 AM for a prompt 9:00 AM start at the AT trailhead at Warwick Turnpike (GPS 41.201502, -74.391403). We shuttle to AT parking on NJ 517, hike the Pochuck Boardwalk, then through a cow pasture, and up Wawayanda Mountain's "Stairway to Heaven" to the Pinwheel Vista. We will start @ 8:45 AM at the Sebago Boat Launch parking lot on Seven Lakes Drive for a prompt beginning. We will head east across the road on the Seven Hills Trail to the T-MI Trail and then to the Breakneck Mountain Trail. From there, we will turn right onto the S-BM Trail, passing the Third Reservoir, and continue to the T-MI Trail, where we will make a right to return via Seven Hills back to the Sebago Boat Launch. The hike will begin promptly at 8:45 AM at Kakiat Park, located off Rt 202 in Montebello, NY (GPS: 41.14579, -74.112855). Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to gear up and put on snowshoes. From the trailhead, we will head north on the Kakiat Trail (white blaze), then turn right onto Torne Valley Road and follow it to Pine Meadow Lake, where we will stop for lunch. Afterward, we will retrace our steps along Torne Valley Road and return to the parking lot via the Kakiat Trail. This is a strenuous hike. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. Olympic Ski Center boasts 55+ kilometers of beautiful, groomed trails, offering easy to
expert skiing conditions. We will break into groups based on ability. If you are brand
new to skiing, Mt. Van Ho offers rental equipment with a lesson for $65. We can all
meet for a lunch break in the lodge at noon before heading back out for an afternoon of
more skiing. Bring your own lunch, or you can purchase lunch at the lodge. A one-day
adult ski pass is $32, ages 65 – 69 $28, or ages 70+ $24.
