Paddle - West River
Genesee Valley Chapter
We will carry our boats a short distance down the old railroad bed and launch there. Jim assures us he will be there to help with the launch site. We will paddle out toward the old rookery, hoping to find heron (or eagle). A few boats at a time should approach the area in silence as we are paddling into the birds' space and we do not want to scare.
If after we return to our put in, we have not yet paddled 2 hours, we will paddle under the bridge (if possible ) and continue into that portion of the West River. This is a nice paddle to start the season with! Of course we will help each other with the carry.
Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear you PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers.

Lake Sebago - Ladentown Mountain

We will head east across the road on the Seven Hills Trail to the T–MI Trail and then to the Breakneck Mountain Trail. From there, we will turn right onto the S–BM Trail, passing the Third Reservoir, and continue to the T–MI Trail, where we will make a right to return via Seven Hills back to the Sebago Boat Launch. This is a moderate-to-strenuous hike. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. Map: New York–New Jersey Trail Conference, Southern Harriman–Bear Mountain Trails Map 118. North Woods Chapter
Ledge Pond is a beautiful remote head water pond located at the western boundary of the St. Regis Canoe Area, accessible via Long and Pink ponds. This outing requires 2 moderate/strenuous carries, totaling 3/4 mile each way. Registrants must be able to carry their canoe/kayak themselves over tricky terrain. Following the initial (easy) carry into Long Pond, it’s a rather short paddle to Pink Pond and the narrow waterway at the far end that continues part of the way to Ledge Pond. The final segment is a slight uphill trail 1/2 mile carry (over a narrow and semi-rugged trail, ending at Ledge Pond. There are beautiful ledges and untouched shores to observe from the water; it's a true paddlers delight. While the total distance to/from Ledge Pond is relatively short, finding and navigating the trail route to Ledge can be tricky, as navigability from Pink Pond into Ledge may depend on the water level, time of year and/or beaver activity in the area. Hybrid hike split between the full 2-hour hike which starts on the Highland Crossing Trail, heading north past the Brickstone by St. John's and continuing to Highland Park's Lamberton Conservatory where we'll pick up the hikers doing the shorter hike (in the middle of the full hike). We'll crisscross Highland Park focusing on the lilacs. Meet at 9:45am in the parking lot (43.11633, -77.60380) on Sawgrass Drive NORTH of Westfall Rd and behind Empire State Univ. 680 Westfall Rd for a 10:00am hike start. Note: A good rule of thumb to follow is the "120° rule." This means you should wear a wetsuit or dry suit whenever the sum of the air temperature and water temperature is equal to or less than 120°F. Warm weather does not cancel out the danger of cold water. If you don't have the appropriate attire for cold-water paddling, please wait to join us until the water is warmer.
Be on the water BEFORE 6:00pm. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
Take Northway exit 10, go right on Usher's Road to the traffic light. Go left on Rt. 9 and the DEC boat launch is on the right about 1.5 miles up.
We will paddle across the lake and explore the Anthony Kill.
Rentals available through Upstate Kayaks during the Upstate season. Contact them to make arrangements, at least a day before the paddle. (Note – the rental location is not at the DEC launch on Rt 9 so allow time to rendezvous with the group.)

We will be doing maintenance on a section of the Finger Lakes Trail and North Country Trail on FLT-O1, O2, M21 or M22 (our adopted section). Our chapter currently maintains 72 miles on the FLT and lean-tos. Fifty-Seven miles are concurrent with the NCT. No special skills are required just a genuine desire to ensure that our trails are clear and blazed for all hikers to enjoy. Bring a pair of work gloves, personal hand tools, water, lunch and wear appropriate clothing.

This week’s ride will be along the Kirkland Trail as the title suggests, but it runs into the Deansboro Towpath for an extended adventure! The trail is an unpaved railroad bed so gravel bikes or mountain bikes will be best. The trail is relatively flat with little to no elevation. The total distance is just over 12 miles. We will head west on the Manaticut Spur (YBK) Trail to the Manaticut Point via the Manaticut (Y) Trail. We then take the Overlook Rock (W) Trail northwest, looping around to the Overlook Rock where we catch the view of Lake Sonoma. We descend from Overlook Rock using the Manaticut (Y) Trail north and east passing Lake Sonoma in the direction of the parking lot. This hike is moderate. Severe inclement weather cancels. The DEC boat launch is at the southern end of East Lake Rd in the village of Honeoye. There is a sign for the launch! (6150 East Lake Rd.)

We will launch from the boat launch and cross the south end of the lake then turn into the inlet. The inlet begins with a swampy area, and sometimes a small beaver dam, then into a clear channel. There are usually lots of birds, turtles and spring plants in this area. We'll paddle for an hour, stop for a snack, then paddle back to our starting point. There are bathrooms at the DEC put in. If you are over 60 and have a drivers license- you can park for free. Insert your license in the kiosk at the entrance.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to gear up and put on snowshoes. From the trailhead, we will head north on the Kakiat Trail (white blaze), then turn right onto Torne Valley Road and follow it to Pine Meadow Lake, where we will stop for lunch. Afterward, we will retrace our steps along Torne Valley Road and return to the parking lot via the Kakiat Trail. This is a strenuous hike. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. Note: A good rule of thumb to follow is the "120° rule." This means you should wear a wetsuit or dry suit whenever the sum of the air temperature and water temperature is equal to or less than 120°F. Warm weather does not cancel out the danger of cold water. If you don't have the appropriate attire for cold-water paddling, please wait to join us until the water is warmer.
Be on the water BEFORE 6:00 p.m. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
From Waterford, drive west on Rt. 97 and take a left onto Flight Lock Rd. Drive past Lock 6 to the boat launch at Canal Park at road's end. We will paddle upstream and around the islands.

Observe a citizen science collaboration at a bird banding station on the Crown Point site. The volunteers set mist nets to collect, document and band migrating songbirds. Due to the location under the Atlantic Flyway, the site is a premier location for viewing birds migrating north for the season. Watch this experienced team of citizen scientists net hundreds of birds, identify and measure species and record their songs. Viewing tables are set a safe distance from the workstations enabling the public to observe banders at work. Join this outing to see nature at its most mysterious in action.
And that’s not all! Crown Point will have an archaeological field school working on site on May 14 as well. This will be their third consecutive year hosting a Syracuse University Field School, where students and faculty are excavating a site where some soil and rocks were dumped in the 1960s. Join us for an easy-going 14 mile bike from Ontario Beach to the Seneca Park Zoo and return. We will ride south on the Genesee River Trail, along the boardwalk at Turning Point Park, across the Genesee River over the pedestrian bridge, past the Zoo on the loop around Trout Pond, and then return. There is some elevation at the Turning Point, pedestrian bridge, and Zoo portions. Plan for about a two and a half hour outing. If interested, we may go to Abbotts for frozen custard after the ride. Starting from the High Peaks Information Center at Adirondack Loj, the hike to Algonquin Peak is a challenging but rewarding Adirondack classic. The trail begins gradually before steepening past MacIntyre Falls, climbing over rocky terrain and exposed slabs.
As you near the top, the forest gives way to alpine terrain with sweeping views. At 5,114 feet, Algonquin is New York’s second-highest peak, offering incredible panoramas of the surrounding High Peaks.
This out-and-back hike is about 8.5–9 miles with roughly 3,000 feet of elevation gain, making it a strenuous but unforgettable adventure.

This is a shuttle hike. Meet at 9:30 AM at the parking area off Rt 6 Long Mountain Rd. Turkey Hill parking (GPS 41.316512, -74.051035). We will drive from there to a parking area along Rt 6 near Barnes lake for a start on a woods road along Barnes Lake to connect with the Long Path. We will take the Long Path over Barnes Mountain and Howell Mountain to the top of the Torrey Memorial. The hike will end at the initial Long Mountain parking area off Rt 6. Be ready to be in the water at 9:45 am, this is tidal and we leave on time. Please get there early to unload your boat, park your car and be dressed for immersion. Hi tide is 10:50 am, 3'; Low tide is 5:38 pm, 0.3' we will have an assist both ways. Bring wheels.
This paddle shows the beauty of the Hudson River & highlands as we travel north under the Bear Mt bridge, Popolopen Suspension bridge and the bridge over 9W. REMEMBER when going under the Popolopen bridge use the LAST trestle as there are obstructions under the others and you could snag.
You should be able to paddle at a pace to keep up with the group. Sea Kayaks only 14' minimum, no canoes, SOT's, SUP's, inflatables, Surf Skiis OK, no Pets. You should know how to assist/self rescue. Note there could be waves, wakes, wind current, please know your ability in these conditions. If you have a marine radio, please bring it with you.

We will warm up on the gradual ski trail and then begin our climb. McKenzie has five summits, the last of which has a couple of ledges with spectacular views. McKenzie is a challenging mountain. I welcome anyone who is willing to hike at a sustained pace, while enjoying the beauty of the woods, the views and the company. This will be an out and back with a potential trip to Haystack on the way back down. This will add about 2 more miles and 500 more feet of elevation. Space is limited.

Join us for a full day paddle (10.5 miles) around Howland Island. The island is a state wildlife refuge adjacent to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. Sightings of eagles and other birds are relatively frequent. The paddle is also fairly well screened from winds, and has only occasional cottages/camps. This is NOT a beginner paddle
, as the distance requires faster pace than the usual Monday Chapter paddles...around 3 miles per hour (Monday paddles average 2 miles per hour). Plan on arriving back in Rochester in the late afternoon!!!

Note: A good rule of thumb to follow is the "120° rule." This means you should wear a wetsuit or dry suit whenever the sum of the air temperature and water temperature is equal to or less than 120°F. Warm weather does not cancel out the danger of cold water. If you don't have the appropriate attire for cold-water paddling, please wait to join us until the water is warmer.
Be on the water BEFORE 6:00p.m. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
Take Exit 1A off I-890 to Rt. 5S in Rotterdam, then take a right into Kiwanis Park soon after leaving the highway ramp.
We will paddle up or down stream depending on the conditions.

This will be an easy morning walk of about two miles on flat and sloping terrain in a 75-acre nature preserve that is an e-bird hot spot. We hope to see warblers, flycatchers, thrushes and tanagers. This hike is one of the best “not a High Peaks” hike, with about 2000’ of elevation gain. There is a rock summit, which affords 360-degree views of the High Peaks. It also has a fire tower, which, if open, allows for additional panoramic views. The hike starts with a steady climb. It levels out a bit before climbing again for the last third.

The Klondike Notch Trail in the Adirondacks High Peaks Region again needs your help. We will be working on an historic trail that the Niagara Frontier Chapter has been maintaining for over 40 years. Join us on Sunday as we make improvements to the trail; cleaning water bars, removing blow-down, and maintaining the Klondike lean-to. We are responsible for the 4.5 miles of the trail from the end of South Meadows Rd. to the Yard Mountain turnoff. Saturday and Monday offer the opportunity for Adirondack hikes of all levels. Also available are all the attractions of Lake Placid. A potluck dinner is planned for one weekend evening in Saranac Lake at the home of some ADK pioneers. The Hunter West Kill Wilderness is 19,250 acres in a remote mountainous location. The Hunter Mtn. Fire Tower is the highest in NYS. It offers an awe-inspiring 360 degree panorama. Hikers have said that, on a clear day, they have seen the Manhattan skyline. The Diamond Notch Falls has been called the prettiest falls in the Catskills.
We'll gather at the trailhead in the afternoon of May 22. We'll backpack only 1.2 miles, with an elevation gain of 600 ft, to set up a basecamp at the shelter in Diamond Notch. From our camp, there are many day hike possibilities ranging from 6 to 9.25 miles with elevation gains from 1250 ft. to 1790 ft. Possible day hikes include Hunter Mtn, SW Hunter Mtn, West Kill Mtn. & Rusk Mtn. We'll decide what we want to do around our evening campfire. Enjoy cycling a Rochester rail-to-trail through woods, past farms and neighborhoods, and over a trestle. We'll meet at 9:45 AM to ride the Lehigh Valley Trail east from Rochester Junction, Mendon to the Lehigh Crossing Park in Victor, then return. We will ride this flat, mostly gravel and dirt trail starting at 10:00 AM. The round trip is approx. 17 miles and we will make occasional stops. Please wear your helmet, dress for the weather and bring water and a snack. You must read and sign the “club’s release of liability form” which I will have at the parking lot. Maintenance trip to Bailey Pond and Hoffman Notch trails

Our chapter maintains Bailey Pond and the southern end of Hoffman Notch trails. Both trails start at Lock Muller trailhead. Trails are short, 0.9 and 1.3 miles, respectively, so we will do both in one day. These are established old trails, so work is mainly side cutting and removing any blowdown. The tools that you may want to bring are loppers.
We will meet at Malta (exit 12) park and ride, and carpool to the trailhead. We will be spending 4-5 hours on the trail, depending on work. The meeting time will be communicated to registered participants.

A challenging fire tower hike with a long drive for those pursuing the ADK Firetower Challenge. Lyon is actually 10 ft taller than Couchsachraga! On a clear day you can see the city of Montreal and the High Peaks! Trailhead is at the ruins of the defunct Lowenberg Ski Area and this spot is known for getting high snowfall. We won't know conditions until closer to the hike. Trailhead may require 4 wheel drive- it is 1 mile on a rutted dirt road that is not maintained in winter. Full on mud season will cancel as we do NOT want to erode our trails further. Prepare for possible black flies with head net, spray of choice and light colored clothing.

Note: A good rule of thumb to follow is the "120° rule." This means you should wear a wetsuit or dry suit whenever the sum of the air temperature and water temperature is equal to or less than 120°F. Warm weather does not cancel out the danger of cold water. If you don't have the appropriate attire for cold-water paddling, please wait to join us until the water is warmer.
Be on the water at the Waterford boat launch BEFORE 6:00 p.m. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
In Waterford, turn from Broad St. south onto First St. and drive to the boat launch at its end. Or you can launch from Lansingburgh at the end of 123rd St. off of Second Ave./Rt.4 and meet the rest of the group on the Waterford side.

Pharaoh Mountain and Lake Pink Lady Slippers Loop

Starting at the Crane Pond trailhead, we'll hike about 3.2 miles to Pharaoh Mountain, and climb about 1,500 of elevation, where we'll look for the Pink Lady Slippers in full bloom, and enjoy several viewpoints all around, including where the former fire tower once stood at 2,556 feet. From there, we'll drop down the other side about 2 miles to Pharaoh Lake, and continue the loop hike for 4 miles to Glidden Marsh, and a short spur trail to Oxshoe Pond, and then back to Crane Pond. Meet-up at the Schroon Lake Tops at 7:00 am to ensure we have suitable vehicles to access Crane Pond Road to the trailhead. Rain cancels.

Trailhead: From Bear Mountain Circle travel south on 9W, parking area will be on the right. Coordinates: 41.28109, -73.96295. Meet at 8:30 AM. This strenuous loop hike offers spectacular views of the Hudson River, surrounding mountains, and the remains of a 19th century spiral railway including two tunnels. We will be following the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail and the Timp Torne Trail. This hike will take approximately 6.5 hours to complete. It will be worth the time and effort. This is always a nice paddle!!! We'll meet at the DEC parking lot at the south end of Canandaigua Lake (Rt. 21)....if you get to Naples you're way too far!!! We'll launch our boats and paddle along the end of the lake turning right into the West River....sometimes there is an eagle greeting us at this turn!! We'll paddle through this swampy area for an hour then turn back to our launch site.
Please arrive by 9:45, and bring a snack and water. Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear your PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers.

Be on the water BEFORE 6:00pm. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 6pm.
We will be launching at the Coxsackie Riverside Park, Coxsackie, NY 12051. Take I-87 South (Thruway) to Exit 21B then turn left onto US-9W South. Keep left onto Mansion St. Ext. and then a slight left onto Mansion Street. In about 2 miles, make a left onto Reed St. and then a left onto S. River Street which will bring you to the park/launch.
We will paddle up or downstream depending on the conditions.

You must wear a securely fastened PFD and have a white light and whistle (required!). NO cotton clothing.

Join us for an overnight backpacking trip into the interior, Friday/Saturday June 5th/6th. We will meet at Upper Works Trailhead at 7:00 am and hike the Calamity Trail passing Flowed Lands and Lake Colden into the Uphill Lean-to on Friday- about 7 miles and 1750 ft. On Saturday we will pass Lake Tear of the Clouds, the headwaters of the mighty Hudson, to hike Skylight carefully seeking alpine azalea, which blooms around this time each year, only on Skylight. It is about 2 miles and 1,650 ft to the summit and then 9 miles back to Upper Works Trailhead. Total distance about 18 miles with 3,500 feet of elevation gain total. It's a good idea to bring a tent in case the lean-to is occupied. Temperatures could be a lot colder than you think- dress for winter and no less than a 20 degree sleeping bag. Paddle the Bashakill One-Way with Shuttle

Join us as we kayak/canoe the beautiful marsh of the Bashakill Wildlife Management Area in Wurtsboro, N.Y. Late spring is a good time to paddle the marsh; the birds are plentiful, and the weeds have not yet clogged the waterways. The leader will set up a short shuttle for a one way paddle through the entire wetlands. Expect to paddle 5-6 miles. Bring lunch/water. PFD’s must be worn while on the water (zipped and tightened). All kayaks must have flotation in both front and back. Space is limited; ADK members have priority. This was a new paddle last year that we really enjoyed. It will be a guided paddle again on the beautiful Chemung River. We will be paddling for about 2 hours, stopping for lunch and then continuing to our take out.
Where: Meet at Bottcher's Landing off the South Corning Road, or Route 10, in Big Flats. The nearly 7 mile trip will end at the Grove Street Boat Launch at the dead end of Grove Street in downtown Elmira. The road goes over the grass flood levee. Both launches have ample room for parking.
Procedure: Unload our boats and equipment at Bottcher's. Drive several vehicles to Grove Street, drop them off, and return to Bottcher's. We hope to be on the water by 10:30 a.m. At the end of the trip, we will drive paddlers, who left their vehicles at Bottcher's, back to Bottcher's to get their vehicles.

The route heads north on the A–SB Trail, continuing onto the Red Cross Trail, Beech Trail, and the Long Path before returning to the parking lot. This is a vigorous hike and is described in Chapter 20 (Longer Hike) of Don Weise’s “Circuit Hikes in Harriman”. Severe inclement weather will cancel the hike. Be on the water at the Waterford boat launch BEFORE 4:30 p.m. Plan to arrive at least 15-30 minutes ahead of launch time. We begin paddling promptly at 4:30pm.
In Waterford, turn from Broad St. south onto First St. and drive to the boat launch at its end. Or you can launch from Lansingburgh at the end of 123rd St. off of Second Ave./Rt.4 and meet the rest of the group on the Waterford side.
We will paddle upstream on the Hudson to Campbell Island or explore the shores and waterfalls of Peebles Island.
Rentals available from Upstate Kayak Rental during the Upstate season. Contact them to make arrangements, at least a day before the paddle.

North Woods Chapter
From the Garden parking lot in Keene our trail begins by climbing to a series of prominences along the ridge leading to the Brothers at 1.5, 1.9 and 2.6 miles. Each offers spectacular views of the Great Range. From the Third Brother our 1.1 mile easy to moderate trail takes us to a junction with the Slide Brook Trail. From there the final 0.2 mile climb to Big Slide’s summit is steep but fairly short. From the summit we’ll get an amazing open view of Giant, the Great Range, distant Dix, Marcy, Algonquin, and more. Be prepared for some short steep rock scrambles that will require balance and dexterity.

Take the NY Thruway to Exit 22, and after the tollbooth take a right on Rt.144 south for about 4 miles. Then take a left on Westerlo St to Coeymans Landing boat launch.
We will explore the mouth of Hannacroix Creek and the shores of Schodack Island State Park where bald eagles are often seen.

Difficulty - Class I-II
Intermediate/Novice whitewater instruction for kayakers will be offered on June 13 thru 14 by the Albany-Schenectady chapter of ADK. This two-day clinic is designed for boaters who have had some previous experience but still need more work to perfect the basic strokes and maneuvers. Students should have paddled class 1 or 2 whitewater five or more times and be able to perform eddy turns, peelouts, and ferries on class 1 water. They should be able to paddle in a straight line, identify river features including eddies, waves, and holes, and self-rescue in class 1 and 2 water. Kayakers should have or be working on a roll and must be comfortable with wet exits. We will start on flat water to refine paddling techniques as well as rolls. We’ll launch at 11:30 am to cross the river & make the high tide at Ramshorn Creek. Please arrive early enough to get yourself ready & park. We will have a pre-meeting & sign waivers 15 minutes prior to launching. This paddle is tide dependent & we will leave on time.

Ramshorn creek is a tidal winding creek. Many bird species, beaver etc frequent this area. The takeout is a small dock & we’ll help each other get out. We can have lunch/rest here & walk to the observation tower. On our return we’ll cross the river & go into Roecliff Jansen Kill. This was the traditional boundary between the Native American Mahican & Wappinger tribes. Well then continue a short distance back to the launch.

Sea kayaks only 14’ minimum with bulkheads and/or floatbags. No canoes, SOT’s, inflatables. Surf skis ok. Dress for immersion & pack a change of clothes in a dry bag & put it in your hatch. Everyone should know how to assist/self rescue.

This is always a really nice paddle!!! We'll launch our boats at the new launch site in the park - paddle to the left for an hour, then raft up for snacks and return to our put in.
Please arrive by 9:45. The entrance to the park is on the south side of the bridge - Park St. - it is across from a cemetery a left turn. Once on Park St. stay to the right and you'll see the park and the launch site over to your right.
Sometimes folks bring a lunch and sit at the picnic tables to eat after the paddle - you're welcome to do this.
Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear you PFD correctly and keep an eye on fellow paddlers!

This 2.5-mile out-and-back trail is near Willsboro, New York and is generally considered an easy,
route. This trail takes hikers through a small patch of forest, then through a picturesque field,

DEC and the Adirondack Mountain Reserve (AMR) launched a no-cost reservation system to address public safety at a heavily traveled stretch on Route 73 in the town of Keene in the Adirondack High Peaks. The Adirondack Mountain Reserve is a privately owned 7,000-acre land parcel located in the town of Keene Valley that allows for limited public access through a conservation easement agreement with DEC. The reservation system does not apply to other areas in the Adirondack Park. We'll meet at the Genesee Waterways Center, off Elmwood Ave, for a 10:00 paddle. We paddle a short distance on the river going south, then east on the canal a short distance, then into Red Creek. Even though this is right in the heart of the city, once on the creek it is quiet and lovely!! It is a beautiful spring paddle with spring wildlife along the way. The put in is off low docks but there is a bit of grassy area to launch from also.
Bring: your boating suppplies, water, snacks if like. This is a two hour or a bit less paddle.
Be prepared to sign the ADK liability release form, wear you PFD tight and correctly, and keep an eye on fellow paddlers.

This is a strenuous hike. Please bring water and lunch. Hiking boots are required, and trekking poles are recommended. This is a joint offering with Hillview Free Library's Guest Artist Sarah Barker and ADK Chapter GFS. Hike and be inspired by the beauty of nature in the Adirondacks. Hike on the LGLC Bradley Trail in Bolton Landing. This is a very moderate trail with only gradual gain. The trail that leads to a stunning view of lake George with the guidance of abstract painter Sarah Barker feel into the view scape and make it your own by feeling with your heart and connecting to what inspires you in the landscape. Translate it into a visual you can keep that captures the moment for you. The feeling the colors the movement. In an abstract way as did Georgia O'Keeffe's a revered painter who spent a lot of time in the lake George area a hundred years ago. You can use different techniques to create your own abstraction of the way you feel and the things you see on this hike and paint time. A scenic hike from the Upper Works along the Indian Pass Trail to Indian Pass, and then 0.6 mile bushwhack up to the cliffs of Wallface with 970 feet of elevation gain off trail. Some excellent views in good weather. About 9.8 miles round trip with an elevation gain around 2100 feet. Meet up at the Schroon Lake Tops at 8:30 am, or the Upper Works parking area at 9:15 am. Bad weather cancels.

This is a two car hike. We will meet at 9:00 AM at the Appalachian Trail Parking on Rt 17A (GPS N41°14.657, W74°17.230) and carpool to the start of the hike, which is the State Line Trail – parking across from the Greenwood Lake Marina on Rt 511 (Lakeshore Drive). The start of the hike will be a decent climb with rock scramble on the State Line Trail. We will reach the NY/NJ mark on the AT and hike north to Rt 17A. Welcome to the highest point of the Appalachian Trail in the Empire State! As you head north from the New York/New Jersey state line, you’ll quickly reach Prospect Rock, which sits at 1,433 feet above sea level. From this rocky perch, you are treated to a spectacular birds-eye view of Greenwood Lake stretching out below you. The trail follows the ridge of Bellvale Mountain; terrific views of Greenwood Lake and the surrounding mountains make for an enjoyable hike on a sneaky rugged section of the AT. We will meet and launch from behind the Finger Lakes Museum located near the intersection of Rt. 54A and Cr. 29, behind the Branchport Fire Dept (located on Rt. 54A). There are entrances off both 54A and cr. 29. Drive BEHIND the barn to the boat launch, do NOT use the boat launch to the south of Rt. 54A or you may miss the group. (https://fingerlakesmuseum.org)
We will paddle south from the museum on Sugar Creek passing through the Townsend Grady Wildlife Preserve exploring the marshlands while we make our way to the west branch of Keuka Lake where we will paddle up the East side of the branch before returning on the West side and back into Sugar Creek. There are bathrooms at the museum as well as hiking trails. There is a section of Sugar Creek to the north of the museum that can also be explored if time permits, estimate this to be a 2 - 2 1/2 hour paddle. A good portion of the paddle will be in open water and subject to water conditions and weather.

We start at 9:15 AM going to the north corner of the parking lot (same side of the road), part of the Castle Loop. We pass the Stone Tower and Castle Ruins, proceed on the Cannonball Trail then head north on the Wanaque Ridge Trail. We loop around the Wanaque Ridge, then pick up the Cannonball and Ramapo Lake Loop staying west of Ramapo Lake. We return on the Cannonball to the Castle Loop Trail taking it to the parking lot. This will be a paddle around the shoreline of this picturesque Lake
The launch site is the DEC boat launch at the north end of the lake. (Take Rt. 15A through the hamlet of Hamlock, traveling south. Go past the end of Hamlock Lake, keep going on Rt. 15A S. You'll turn left on Purcell Hill Rd. At the end of the road, turn right on Canadice Lake Rd. and watch for the DEC kiosk on the right. You can drive down to the lake to unload your boat but you need to park along the road.) If fishermen are using the launch also - we'll keep our boats over to the right shoreline to provide them access to the launch with their trailers.

Lake George has fireworks every Thursday night at 9:30. We can hike up Prospect Mountain and enjoy the show at the top. I plan on using the trail from the village which is 3 miles and 1,532 feet of elevation gain. Parking can be difficult. Backup plan is to switch and begin from the Rec Center. Email or text to get final determination. The hike fom the rec center is 5 miles with a similar elevation.

When entering the park, follow the driveway all the way up the incline to the canal, where there is a small parking lot. If the lot is full (depending on the softball fields), unload your gear, then park downhill to the larger parking lot midway, then walk back up. Rest rooms are at that lot only. Allow a little extra time so that we can depart at 6 pm, launching from the aluminum floating dock.

We'll paddle west towards Pittsford and enjoy the live music of The Rochester Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra from the water, having a front row seat! The concert begins at 6:30. This is a lovely paddle up through the creek! We'll paddle as far as our time permits. We'll put our boats in at LaSalle Park and paddle up into the creek for an hour. We'll stop for a snack then return to our launch site. This is a "one boat at a time" launch site so we'll help each other and try to quickly launch the boats. Please be "on the water" for a 10:00 start!

Onondaga Chapter
An amazing 3.2-mile loop of the North Country Trail located within Hemlock Glen in Morgan Hill State Forest. This hike takes you along Hemlock Glen as you ascend Morgan Hill and is one of the best of the North Country National Scenic Trail in New York. The hike features Hemlock Glen, numerous small waterfalls, Hemlock Lean To, and Shackam Brook. This hike begins at Shackham Road, and you'll descend into a camping area next to Shackham Brook. The brook is crossed on a footbridge, and the trail crosses a small stream before beginning to ascend. The trail turns away from Shackham Brook and now enters the numerous small waterfalls of the scenic Hemlock Glen, which will be on your right as you ascend. We will take a break at the lean-to and continue up to Morgan Hill Road. We will then retrace our steps back to Shackham Road.

From Apulia, take NY 91 south past the Tinker Falls parking area and then turn left on Shackham Road. Drive about 0.5 miles to the crossing of the North Country Trail. This is the "southern" tailhead of the two NCT crossings of Shackham Road.

This leasurely evening paddle will launch on the Erie Canal in the village of Fairport, near the lift bridge. Enter the large parking lot opposite the RV&E Bike shop, behind Rikki’s, proceeding to the far end of the lot. We'll paddle west beyond Perinton Park to the Oxbow. After turning around, we’ll head east to the Turk Hill Road bridge before returning to the launch. The parking lot is well lit and does not close after hours. PFD required, hydration and head lamp recommended. RSVP by email to be notified if canceled because of the weather. Non-ADK members are restricted to 2 outings per season.

Join us for a paddle at the south end of Skaneateles Lake. We'll launch at Andrew R. Fuller Park in the Glen Haven area and paddle up the east shoreline of the lake.The paddle length is about 6 miles round trip. There are some cottages along this route, but quite a bit of the paddle is below steep cliffs. We first stop at an area containing ancient fossil staghorn coral deposits dating from the Devonian Period (400 - 350 million years ago). We then continue to Staghorn Point, a new area preserved by the Finger Lakes Land Trust. Her we take a break, have lunch and possible swim....weather permitting. Toilet facilities are in the woods. We then re-trace our path back to the launch. The trip is quite scenic, and the water in this lake is incredibly clear....the clearest of the finger lakes.
