Tuesday Hike (Hybrid)-Whiting Road Nature Preserve
Tuesday Hikes are being cross-posted to the MeetUp Group "ADK Genesee Valley Chapter" Two-hour hybrid hike split between a 40-minute hike at a slower pace around the northern side of the park then returning to the cars, followed by a second hike at a faster pace heading to the southern and western parts of the park for the rest of the 2-hours. Meet 9:45am in the Whiting Road Nature Preserve parking lot (43.24685, -77.46883) on Whiting Rd in Webster for a 10:00am hike start. Please dress for the weather, wear boots or trail shoes with good traction, bring some water to drink and some tick/mosquito repellent. Hiking poles would be useful on the steeper sections. Bike Canal trail Bushnell’s Bassin west to REI
Join us for a bike trip along the Canal . We will meet at 9:45am at the the Hitching Post Plaza (Tom Wall’s) parking lot in Bushnell’s Bassin for a 10am start. The route follows the canal bike trail west through Pittsford to approximately REI. From there we return to Bushnell’s Bassin. The ride is mostly flat on a paved & cinder trail and approx. 15 miles. We will make occasional stops. Dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. Please park in the Hitching Post shopping plaza (Tom Wall's) away from the plaza buildings. Letchworth Eastside Trails & FLT
Strenuous 11 to 15 mile hike with ~1500 - 2,000’ of elevation gain. This is not a beginner’s hike. Depending on group size and pace, this hike could take 6 to 7 hours, so please plan accordingly. If you have time constraints, this may not be the hike for you. Please bring a lunch, snacks, plenty of water and a positive attitude. We will hike a variety of trails on the eastside of the park. There will be different types of trails and views plus significant elevation gain. We may do some exploring. You must contact the hike leader if you are interested in joining. August 17 2026 paddle Waneta/ Lamoka, We will launch and paddle through the connecting channel to Waneta lake where we will travel around the lake and then back through the channel to Lamoka lake where we will head to the Red Bank island for our lunch break before continuing south on Lamoka and into the lagoon area at the south end after which we will return to the launch area between the lakes. The island lunch stop also provides an excellent swimming opportunity to any who so choose. Plan for a 6-8 mile paddle (depending on group) with a lunch/swim break in the middle. Join us for a bike trip along Seneca Lake and the Seneca Cayuga Trail in Geneva. We will meet at 9:45am at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center on Seneca Lake in Geneva for a 10am start. The route starts along Seneca Lake to the Seneca Cayuga Trail. We continue down the trail where it ends at a Canal lock and then ride back to Seneca Lake. Crescent Trail Hike
Meet at 9:45 AM on Garnsey Rd. parking lot to begin our hike at 10 AM. Expect about a 2-hour hike time to cover roughly 5 miles of two loop trails. We will begin by crossing the street and hiking the blue trail in McCoord Woods. Expect a 2.6-mile loop with moderate hills. We will then cross back to the parking lot. This allows the option to take a snack break or depart. The next half is the 2-mile loop trail of Horizon Hill on the same side as the parking lot. Similarly, this takes about 1 hour and has moderate hills. Tic and mosquito precautions are advised. Please bring food, hydration, and dress according to your comfort level for the weather conditions.

Erie Canal Paddle
We will do a casual 2 hour paddle starting out at the wide waters west of the village of Spencerport heading in a westerly direction on the canal.
Directions: From Route 531, exit at Rt 259 (Union Street). Head north and make a left turn onto Route 31 (west). Drive past Spencerport and make a right (north) turn onto Trimmer Road. Make a left turn onto Lyell St. and follow the road around the canal wide water to the launch and parking on the right side of the road. This is on the south side of the canal so if you have crossed over the canal, you missed the turn. Use address 10 Lyell St. Spencerport, NY in GPS.

Entrance to the DEC Mud Lock boat lunch is located off RT 90 appx. 1 mile south of Route 5/20

Porta Potties are provided at Mud Lock and bathroom facilities are provided at our stop in Seneca Falls. This is a long paddle with a lunch stop in Seneca Falls at the Peoples Park/Community Center.
We will paddle west on the Seneca River appx. 5 miles where we will pass through locks 2 and 3 before paddling on through Van Cleef Lake and entering the canal park area in Seneca falls where we will stop for lunch. After lunch we will paddle back to Mud lock, we will have the current at our backs for the return trip. Total distance is appx. 11-12 miles. Bring your own lunch and hydration.

Starting in the village of Fairport, we will ride east on the Erie Canal to Macedon Canal Park and, if interested, the old lock 60. Meeting near the Roundhouse Shelter in Genesee Valley Park, we'll sample a bit of the north branch of the Lehigh Valley Trail then head toward Court Street, then south through Highland Park to the Highland Crossing Trail, taking the canal path back to our cars. Only 14 miles but there will be multiple stops for road crossings (with pedestrian crossing signage/signals).
One very short stretch of sidewalk; otherwise paved or crushed stone surface.

This will be an easy out-and-back flat hike on a mostly crushed stone surface (rare spots of thin mud). We'll pass through woods, by a wetland and through a more open area. Bike Keuka Outlet Trail
Join us for a 14-mile out-and-back ride along the former canal connecting Keuka Lake to Seneca Lake. The trail consists of all types of surfaces, mostly crushed stone, but some washed out rocky areas and some paved areas. It’s a gentle uphill on the way out and downhill on the way back (mostly). Finger Lakes Trail Maintenance Day
Group work day for the 10 miles of the Finger Lakes Trail maintained by GVC. Carpooling from Lowes Marketplace/Henrietta is encouraged. Fall maintenance consists of cutting back summer weed and brush growth, trimming bushes and trees that have grown into the trail and cleaning drainage channels so they are clear for spring runoff. Typical work day ends early to midafternoon. Optional group stop for ice cream at Ice Cream Island on the way home.

Paddle Sodus Bay
The launch onto Sodus Bay is a sandy beach, directly next to the US Coast Guard Station. Large free parking lot, modern rest rooms. The bay can have heavy boat traffic so we'll likely hug the shoreline, counter clock-wise, circumventing the majority of the bay as far south to Nicholas Point. Optional extension of a 3rd hour onto Lake Ontario if conditions permit. Might want to bring a lunch. PFD required, hydration and sun protection recommended. Bike Lehigh Valley Trail West
We’ll bike west starting from Rochester Junction along the Lehigh Valley Trail. We'll meet at 9:45 AM and wheels start rolling at 10:00AM. This is an out-and-back ride with turnaround at the Wadsworth Junction with the Greenway Trail. This is a flat, mostly gravel and dirt trail through woods, along the Honeoye Creek in Rush, past farms and neighborhoods, and over a trestle spanning the Genesee River. There are bathrooms and a bike maintenance station at Rochester Junction. We will ride approx. 15 miles with occasional stops. Women's Hike-Durand Eastman Park, Yellow Trail
We will hike for 2 hours, approx. 4-miles on the hilly trails of Durand Eastman park yellow trail. Meet at 9:45am for a 10:00am hike start. Meet at parking lot C on Lakeshore Blvd. at Durand Eastman park. This is near Horseshoe Road. We'll be in the woods, along the golf course, short pieces along Zoo road and Log Cabin road and hike out along Trott and Durand Eastman lakes. Please dress for the weather, bring water and a snack. Boots or trail shoes and poles may be useful on the trails.
If weather permits, bring a bag lunch and join me near Lake Ontario for a picnic lunch after the hike ends around noon.
