Tuesday Hike (Hybrid)-Lucien Morin Park-Rifle Range Trail

Tuesday Hikes are being cross-posted to the MeetUp Group "ADK Genesee Valley Chapter" Two-hour hybrid hike in Lucien Morin Park split between a 40-minute hike at a slower pace on the flat park road looping back to the cars, followed by a 2nd hike at a faster pace on the Rifle Range Trail for the rest of the 2-hour hike. Meet at 9:45am in the Lucien Morin Park parking lot (43.17519, -77.52367) on Empire Blvd just east of what used to be MacGregor's and is now Bar-Bill East for a 10:00am hike start. Please dress for the weather, bring some water to drink, and wear boots or trail shoes with good traction. Women's Hike-Mendon Ponds- Vernal Ponds

Laurel Newman will lead us on the trails at Mendon Ponds around the Vernal Ponds (a temporary, shallow wetland that fills with water during rain-heavy seasons—typically winter and spring—and dries out completely by late summer or fall). Plan to hike for 2 hours, approx. 4 miles. Finger Lakes Trail Maintenance Day

Group work day for the 10 miles of the Finger Lakes Trail maintained by GVC.  Carpooling from Lowes Marketplace/Henrietta is encouraged.  Spring clean-up involves removal of branches and limbs that have fallen on the trail over winter, trail repair from spring runoff if needed and cleaning of drainage channels.  Typical work day ends early to midafternoon.  Optional group stop for all you can eat buckwheat pancakes with maple syrup at Cartwright Maple Tree Inn on the way home.  Come and enjoy the spring wildflowers. Sunday Hike - Genesee Valley Greenway

Join us for a walk on the level Genesee Valley Greenway, south from Scottville's Canawauga Park to the Lehigh Valley Trail to Rush Creekside Inn. We will meet at the Inn and carpool to the beginning of the hike.  Depending on the weather, traction devices might be useful. As usual, wear proper clothing and footwear,  bring water and a snack. If hikers wish we can have lunch and a brew at the end of the hike. No dogs, please. Additional Information: The Sunday Hikes are offered as a benefit to current and potential new members of ADK. All our hikes have a steady pace, so are not "nature strolls" but they are also not "endurance tests" although we do at times hike at a brisk pace. Bring plenty to drink. Saturday Hike on Finger Lakes Trail (Section of Map M6)

This hike will be on a section of the main (west to east) Finger Lakes Trail in Allegany & Wyoming Counties. The hike will be approximately 11.8 miles long over rolling hills, with approximately 1,040’ of climbing elevation. Note that the hike will include approximately 4.0 miles of walking on country roads. I’m estimating we’ll be on the trail for approximately 6.5 hrs. (this includes a short lunch break). This is a one-way thru hike, which means we’ll need to spot vehicles. We will meet at 8:30 AM at the hike’s terminus on Wiscoy Road (FLT Map M6/14.1; 42.53026, -78.08888), then shuttle over to the hike’s starting point on Higgins Creek Road (FLT Map M6/2.3; 42.46972, -78.20551). There is parking along the road shoulder at both locations. Dogs are not allowed on this hike. Sunday Hike - Zoo/River Loop

Join us for a 9 mile or so loop hike starting at the Zoo, hiking north to cross the Colonel Patrick O'Rourke Bridge, then south on the west side of the Genesee River, cross the fantastic pedestrian bridge back to he cars. Trail is a mix of sidewalk, paved, and rough dirt trails, for a B rating. There are a few hills, but it is mostly level.  Meet at 8:45 for a prompt start at 9:00. Call the leader with questions. Women's Hike- Mount Hope Cemetery and Highland Park

Karin Toepfer will lead us as we hike the hilly trails at Mount Hope Cemetery and Highland Park for 2 hours, approx. 4 miles. We will do a hilly loop around Mt. Hope Cemetery first to see the daffodils and then continue to Highland Park to visit the Poet’s Garden, the magnolias, lilacs, rhododendrons, the reservoir, the pinetum, the sledding hill and the sunken garden for another loop. Women's Clean Up Day at Canal Oxbow in Fairport and Hike-in Hart's Woods

We will meet in Fairport on Erie Crescent at the access to Oxbow Road at 9:30 AM. We will plan to finish our work and hike by 12:30 PM so it is a 3 hour event. We will spend an hour or so picking up trash in the Oxbow area of the Erie Canal. We hope to register this as an Erie Canal Clean up event. Please bring a trash bag and protective gloves for picking up trash.  Dress for the weather and bring water and a snack. Shoes with good traction may be helpful. This will be a flat area that we are cleaning up. After an hour or so we will park our trash bags and hike into Hart's woods, a lovely area of local trails for an hour to get a little exercise. Sunday Hike - Letchworth State Park

Join us for a 10-11 mile or so one-way hike along the Letchworth Branch Trail of the Finger Lakes Trail system, ending at the Park's Visitor Center. We'll leave a car there, then drive south to another parking area to start our hike. The trail is a rough dirt path with lots of small up and downs, for a B rating. Meet at 8:45 a.m. at Frontier Commons near the intersection of 390 and Jefferson Road and leave for Letchworth via carpool at 9:00. We won't be back until late afternoon, so if you are pressed for time, this isn't a good match.  Bring a lunch for the trail. Also, bring cash for the carpool drivers.  The carpool cost will be $24/car divided by the number of riders. (e.g. 2 cars/8 riders=48/8=$6.) Call the leader with questions. Paddle - West River

Paddle - Honeoye Lake Inlet

The DEC boat launch is at the southern end of East Lake Rd in the village of Honeoye.  There is a sign for the launch! (6150 East Lake Rd.)  , We will launch from the boat launch and cross the south end of the lake then turn into the inlet.  The inlet begins with a swampy area, and sometimes a small beaver dam, then into a clear channel.  There are usually lots of birds, turtles and spring plants in this area.  We'll paddle for an hour, stop for a snack, then paddle back to our starting point.  There are bathrooms at the DEC put in. Finger Lakes Trail Maintenance Day

Group work day for the 10 miles of the Finger Lakes Trail maintained by GVC.  Carpooling from Lowes Marketplace/Henrietta is encouraged.  Summer maintenance usually consists of cutting back brush, chopping weeds and mowing.  Any summer storm damage is attended to.  Typical work day ends early to midafternoon.  Optional group stop for ice cream at The Pit Stop before heading home.
