Paddle - Canadice Lake
Canadice Lake is a lovely little lake. It'll remind you of the lakes in the AKD's. Marcia and Jim will lead a paddle along the shoreline of the lake - it takes just about 2 hours. I suspect the group will stop at the half way point for snacks and drinks.
,
The launch site is the DEC boat launch at the north end of the lake. Take rt. 15A through the hamlet of Hemlock traveling south. Go past the end of Hemlock lake, keep going on rt s15A You'll turn left on Purcell Hill rd. At the end of the road turn right on Canadice Lake Rd and watch for the DEC kiosk on the right (maybe a mile or so). You can drive down to the lake to unload your boat and gear, then drive up to the road to park. If fishermen are using the launch also - we'll keep our boats over to the right of the shoreline.

Women's Hike-Beechwood State Park and Cornwall Preserve
We will hike at Beechwood State Park in Sodus and Cornwall Preserve in Pultneyville for 2 hours, approx. 4 miles. Poles may be helpful. Please bring water and a snack. We will have a short drive after hiking at Beechwood to get to the Cornwall preserve in Pultneyville. Hiking at both sites allows us to get in the 4 miles and both are along Lake Ontario. It could take us slightly longer than the 2 hours since we are hking at both sites. Both parks are off of Lake Road, East of Rochester.. Since we are traveling a distance for these hikes, we will either plan lunch at Orbakers restaurant or pack a lunch to picnic-TBD and will be announced in the weekly google note or contact the leader with questions.

This is the first of eight ADK-GVC rides to bike the length of the Erie Canal on its bicentennial year. This section is 25 miles on the mostly flat canal path. We will carpool from the West Gates Shopping Plaza to shuttle bikes and riders for this one-way ride. With carpooling and shuttles, plan for an all-day (8:00 AM to ~4:15 PM) event. Interested cyclists must contact Dave Nichols at dnnichols@gmail.com or (585)478-5514 at least 3 days in advance for specific information and shuttle planning. Please wear your helmet and dress for the weather. Please bring water, snacks, and a lunch. Due to insurance constraints, non-members can only join one GVC bike ride in 2025. Carlton Hill Multiple Use Area (MUA)
Moderately strenuous (due to length) 10 - 12 mile hike with ~1,400 - 1,800’ of elevation gain. This is not a beginner’s hike. Depending on group size and pace, this hike could take 6 to 7 hours, so please plan accordingly. If you have time constraints, this may not be the hike for you. Please bring a lunch, snacks, plenty of water and a positive attitude.
If you have never hiked Carlton Hill, you are in for a treat. I have hiked there several times and I keep exploring new trails. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Rochester so please plan accordingly.
You must contact the hike leader if you are interested in joining. Once I know who is going, I will send out final details (meeting time and location) to the group. You can contact me at Lukecnelson2@gmail.com.

Paddle - Howland Island
Join us for a full day paddle (10.5 miles) around Howland Island. The island is a state wildlife adjacent to Montezuma Wildlife Refuge. Sightings of eagles and other birds are relatively frequent. The paddle is also fairly well screened from winds, and has only occasional cottages/camps. This is NOT a beginner paddle, as the distance requires a pace faster than the usual Monday chapter paddles....around 3 miles per hour on the average (Mondays average 2 miles per hour.) Plan on arriving back in Rochester LATE afternoon.
,
We will gather at the DEC fishing access site on route 5/20 across the street from the entrance to Montazuma Refuge headquarters. We will meet at 9:00 there and drive as a group to the put- in on the canal where it crosses Conquest St. It is important to be on time! as this paddle will take most of the day. Lunch is at a bridge roughly half way through the paddle. Toilet needs are met in the woods!! Bring what you need - binoculars would be helpful for bird sightings.

Paddle - Honeoye Lake Inlet
We'll launch our boats at the DEC boat launch at the very south end of Honeoye Lake. We'll paddle across the end of the lake and into the inlet, paddling as far as we can go in the time allotted. This is a lovely paddle back into the inlet, often there are beaver dams, spring flowers, quiet paddling.
,
When we park at the DEC, if you are 60 or over, you can park for free. You might have to show your liscense at the kiosk. Or, unload your boat at the water and then go to the upper lot and park, we've never been bothered there.
,
Directions: If coming from the north, drive south on Rt. 15A through the village of Hemlock, you'll turn left on Rt. 21 before you get to Hemlock lake (at Dollar store). This will take you through the village of Honeoye. Go past the school on the left, turn right at the next corner (I think it's E lake rd). Drive to what seems like forever!!! You'll go to the very end of the lake!! Turn right into the DEC boat launch and drive down to the lake.

Paddle -Erie Canal, Palmyra
This is not a difficult paddle! I gave it a B rating because it is a longer paddle, but there are breaks and a longer lunch break!!
,
We will launch at Park Drive in Palmyra, and paddle upstream (against the current, light current usually) on the Erie Canal towards Macedon. We will pass through Locks 29 and 30 before stopping at the canoe park in Macedon for a lunch break, appx. 5 miles. Bring whatever you want to eat and drink. There are rest rooms at the park, we think there are picnic tables. We will then return to Palmyra, again going back through the two lock, and if time permits, a short detour into the Ganargua Creek at the Palmyra Aqueduct. before returning to the cars in Palmyra. This will be about a 5 hour event!
,
There is a nice ice cream parlor a few minutes east of our launch site that will keep Peg happy after the paddle (and hopefully many more folks!),
,
From Rochester: Take Rt. 31 East to Palmyra, pass through the downtown area and turn left onto Throop St. and right…

Paddle - Sodus Bay
The launch onto Sodus Bay is a sandy beach, directly next to the Wayne County Sheriff sub-station. Large free parking lot, modern rest rooms. The bay can have heavy boat traffic so we'll hug the shoreline, counter clock-wise, likely circumventing the entire bay, taking a stand up break at the south end at Ridge Road. Optional extension of a 3rd hour onto Lake Ontario if conditions permit. Might want to bring a lunch. PDF required, hydration and sun protection recommended. RSVP by email to be notified if canceled.

Paddle - West River/Naples Creek Naples
This is always a nice paddle!!! We'll meet at the DEC parking lot at the south end of Canandaigua Lake (Rt. 21)....if you get to Naples you're way too far!!! We'll launch our boats and paddle along the end of the lake turning right into the west river....sometimes there is an eagle greeting us at this turn!! We'll paddle through this swampy area for an hour then turn back to our launch site.
,
Those who would like - we'll lunch at "brats and brew" just up the hill from the lake and on your way home if coming from Rochester area.

Paddle - Black creek at Churchville Park
This is always a really nice paddle!!! We'll launch our boats at the new launch site in the park - paddle to the left for an hour, then raft up for snacks and return to our put in.
,
The entrance to the park is on the south side of the bridge - Park St. - it is across from a cemetery a left turn. Once on Park St. stay to the right and you'll see the park and the launch site over to your right.
,
Sometimes folks bring a lunch and sit at the picnic tables to eat after the paddle - you're welcome to do this.

Paddle - Owasco Flats
We will meet at the Bass Pro Shop in Auburn on Rt. 5&20 at 9:30 to caravan on to Owasco Flats. The drive from the Bass Pro to our launch site (at 2799 Fire Lane 1, Moravia, NY 13118,) will take an additional 28 minutes. The launch is primitive and can be a little muddy!!! There are NO facilities at the launch, however there is a marina close by should anyone want to make a pit stop before we depart down the river.'
,
We will paddle south through Owasco preserve for approx 1 1/2 hours (approx 4.2 miles) or till we reach the island before the bridge going into Moravia. We'll stop for lunch there. If the water is too high we will look for an alternative spot for a llunch break. (Don't worry - we'll eat!! Esp if Peg is on the trip!!) After a short break we will return to the south end of Owasco Lake. I would anticipate the total mieage of the paddle to be in the range of 8 - 10 miles.
,
Afterwards, those interested will stop at Reeses Dairy bar for ice cream (this is Peg's stop!!!),

Paddle - Full Moon!!!
Weather permitting - we'll meet at the Canandaigua State Marina (620 S. Main St, Canandaigua) at 8:30PM to paddle out a bit into the lake and watch for the full moon to appear. Bring snacks to share as we raft up and watch for it's appearance. Bring drinks but not alcholic as this is an ADK event, and drinking and paddling really don't go together, along with drinking and driving home!!! It should be a lovely evening! Come hang out on the water with friends!!!

Paddle - Picnic
We're having our annual "paddling picnic" a bit early this year!! If the weather doesn't cooperate - we'll have later dates to reschedule.
,
We'll meet at the boat launch at the north end of Hemlock Lake for a 10:00 paddle. Please be ready to launch your boat at 10:00, not just arriving!!! We'll paddle for about 2 hours then we'll meet at the park at the end of the lake (drive to) for a pot luck picnic. Hot dogs, rolls, drinks, paper products will be supplied. It's always fun to sit down together for a meal and we have the best cooks in the ADK I swear!!!
,
The launch site is located at the north end of Hemlock lake. Drive through the Hamlet of Hemlock ( rt. 15A) and turn Right on Rex Hill Rd. Immediately lurn left on the boat launch rd....there's a sign. You'll travel along the lake for a bit before reaching the launch. You can drive down, unload your boat and then return to the parking lot.
,
This is a nice paddle, no cottages along the lake - kinda like the ADK's!

Paddle - Conesus Lake
Use the address in your map app, not the park name. The small parking lot on your left going south is marked with a brown DEC sign that says Conesus Lake Fishing Access Site. We'll launch off a dock, paddling south to perhaps Long Point Park to stretch our legs before returning north. Might want to bring a picnic because of the distance. PDF required, hydration and sun protection recommended.

There are entrances off both 54A and cr 29. Drive BEHIND the barn to the boat launch, do not use the boat launch to the south of RT 54A unless you want to miss out on donut holes prior to the paddle......Peg will be with the donuts for sure!!!
,
We will paddle south from the museum on Sugar Creek passing through the townsend Grady Wildlife Preserve exploring the marshlands while we make our way to the west branch of Keuka Lake, where we will paddle up the west side of the branch before returning on the east side and back into Sugar Creek. There are Porta Pottis at the museum as well as hiking trails. There is a section of Sugar Creek to paddle north of the museum that can also be explored if time permits, estimate this to be a 2 - 2 1/2 hour paddle. A good portion of the paddle will be on open water and subject to…
