Whiteface from Lake Placid

The path less travelled to Whiteface, this is a favorite summer hike. After walking past quiet Connery Pond, we’ll get to Whiteface Landing on Lake Placid in time for a snack on the floating dock. Will the dock still be tilted, or will they have finally fixed it? The real ascent begins once we reach the Whiteface Lean-to. The views will appear as we approach the summit before our final climb up the open, rocky south face of the mountain to find all the people who drove up crowding the top. Our lunch spot will be a quieter place below the summit. The best part is a swim off the dock on the way back, so bring your swim suit and hope for warm but not too hot weather. Round trip distance is 12.4 miles with 3,200 feet of elevation change. Meet at the park and ride at the north end of Media Drive near Northway Exit 18. Sign up is only by email to the leader. Moxham Mountain

This hike is an out and back hike to the top of Moxham Mountain in the Vanderwhacker Mountain Wild Forest to see the incredible views from the various viewpoints and summit. While there is one climb to summit a hill early on, the rest of the trail gradually makes its way to the top; there are no real scrambles but plenty of bare rock. The summit tops out at just over 2400 feet, yet there are incredible views towards Gore Mountain and including Long Pond and Clear Pond. Email the hike leader to reserve a space. Fun fact: the benchmark at the summit has a wildly different spelling of the mountain's name. Hosted By: Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter. Region: Adirondacks. Activity Category: Hiking. Trip rating: B. Grace Peak (East Dix) via Spotted Mountain Hike and Bushwhack

From Route 73, this route generally follows the South Fork of the Boquet River and along the exposed mountain ridge to Spotted Mountain and Grace Peak, providing excellent views. The South Fork of the Boquet River can be found along Rt 73 just after the Route 9 intersection where there is a small pull-off on the left to park. The route starts on the left side of the parking area along a steep bank, generally following the river although often not in sight until the herd path returns and we follow it a short distance to a fork, where we'll go in-between the two river branches and head west to a ridge and up a few scrambles to Elizabethtown #4 and mostly open ridgeline created by the Great Fire of 1903. Continuing along the ridge in a south/southwest direction we'll reach Spotted Mountain and more open views, and continue along the ridge to our final destination, Grace Peak (East Dix). There are some spots of very thick Balsam along the way, but also many open areas with excellent open views. Plan on a full day… Hosted By: Glens Falls-Saratoga Chapter.
