We'll launch from Bridgewater, in western Connecticut, for a flatwater paddle of approximately 12 miles RT on the Housatonic River. We'll takeout at Lovers Leap State Park for a short hike on a good trail to the viewpoint. The view up & down the river is breathtaking. BRING COMFORTABLE FOOTWEAR FOR THE HIKE.
Legend identifies the lovers as Lillinonah, daughter of the powerful Chief Waramaug, and a white settler who moved into the wilderness to seek his fortune. The settler made a trip back home to visit his parents, but was delayed in returning. Lillinonah waited, but then began to worry. She became distressed and distraught, thinking that her handsome lover deserted her or got himself killed. Giving up hope that she'd ever see him again, she took her canoe and paddled it towards the edge of the Great Falls, which existed there on the river until the Stevenson Dam was built downriver in the 1950s. Kayak and Walking Tour of Bannerman Island ***TOUR INCLUDES KAYAK AND INSTRUCTION***
, Let's kayak to "Pollepel" Island and take a walking tour to visit Bannerman Castle. We will be using a tour group for this outing. We'll begin our afternoon adventure by taking a leisurely paddle across the Hudson River to "Pollepel" or Bannerman Island. We'll then make our way up from the shore on the walking trails. A Bannerman Castle Historian will then direct a tour along the walkways of the island alongside the former arsenal and residence. Light hiking (0.5 miles) and stairs are part of this tour. Round trip paddling distance of approximately 2.5 miles.
This is a guided tour run by a local kayak tour company. They provide kayak, paddle and PFD/lifejacket as well as instruction before you hit the water. Both single and tandem kayaks are available. Guides are available throughout the tour to help participants. First time kayakers are encouraged to join.
You will need to purchase tickets for the tour. Tour cost is $120 per person + $6 processing fee. We are eligible for a 10% group discount. Please…

We launch from the Rhinecliff train station and will cross the Hudson River going North to sandy Kingston Beach for lunch, rest & maybe a swim. Then we'll paddle South to the Rondout Lighthouse and up the Creek. The Rondout Creek has many interesting old retired boats, sea plane, etc like a small ship's graveyard. There is a lovely waterfall at the end of the creek. There is an option to stop at the Maritime Center if you haven't been there before, the museum is worth seeing. Bring money for admission. We can pick you up on the way back. Let me know if you wish to stop so I can get permission from the dockmaster before. Get there early to be able to unload your boat, park and be ready to be in the water at 10:45 am. Sea kayaks only 14' minimum, no SOT's, Canoes, SUP's, Inflatables; Surf skis OK. Route Description.
Day 1 - Meet 12:00 noon at Floodwood Outpost. Unload all gear. Shuttle 3-4 cars to Saranac Lake and leave at Dorsey St Municipal Parking Lot at 56 Main St. Saranac Lake. Return in one car back to Floodwood. Launch at 2:00 PM. Paddle ~ 3 hours to Follensby Clear Pond and make camp.
Day 2 - Launch at 9:00 AM. Paddle across Upper Sararac Lake to Middle Saranac lake and make camp. Bartlett Carry Portage - 0.5 miles
Day 3, Day 4 - Launch at 9:00 AM. Paddle to Lower Saranac lake and make camp for 2 nights, while we explore the lake. Pass through Upper Locks.
Day 5 - Launch at 9:00 AM. Paddle to Oseetah Lake portaging 200 yards around Lower Locks. Paddle to Lake Flower. Take out around 12:00 noon, then fetch cars.

Join the monthly hikers at Locust Grove for a guided 3 mile hike along the beautiful trails at this historic site. Meet at 10:30 in front of the gift shop. Bring water, snacks, hiking boots and poles are recommended, and dress for the weather. We’ll go slow to moderate pace, based on the group. Rain cancels.
