Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area Cleanup

Roadside Clean-Up Tillman Road Wildlife Management Area, Clarence , Saturday, May 16th Make a difference! Volunteers needed to pick up litter along the roadsides surrounding the Tillman Wetlands area in Clarence. Meet at the Shisler Road parking lot at 10 a.m. located at the eastern end of Wehrle Drive. Garbage bags are supplied. Bring work gloves & a long-handled grabber if you have one to pick up hard to reach trash. The clean-up takes about 2 hours. Buffalo Orienteering Outing

A planned orienteering outing with Buffalo Orienteering Club is scheduled for Sunday, May 17th, 2026 (weather permitting). Hiking at Franklin Gulf

Klondike Notch trail maintenance

Friday through Monday, May 22,23,24,25, 2026, Clark Hall Jr. Memorial Day Work-Play Weekend (B),   The Klondike Notch Trail in the Adirondacks High Peaks Region again needs your help. We will be working on an historic trail that the Niagara Frontier Chapter has been maintaining for over 40 years. Join us on Sunday as we make improvements to the trail; cleaning water bars, removing blow-down, and maintaining the Klondike lean-to. We are responsible for the 4.5 miles of the trail from the end of South Meadows Rd. to the Yard Mountain turnoff. Saturday and Monday offer the opportunity for Adirondack hikes of all levels. Also available are all the attractions of Lake Placid. A potluck dinner is planned for one weekend evening in Saranac Lake at the home of some ADK pioneers. This year I will be staying in the Loj campground. I have campsites 8 and 9 reserved from Friday afternoon until Monday morning. Some trail work experience is recommended. Paddle Upper Niagara River

Easy/Moderate (C+) Paddle the Upper Niagara to Motor/Pirate's Is. to see the heron/egret rookeries, and possibly continue upstream to Strawberry Is. 2-3 hours. Arrive by 9 for a 9:30A launch at the Beaver Island Kayak Launch Park (East River Marsh) near the foot of Ferry Rd. Grand Island. Afterward, we'll stop for lunch at Casey's Cabana if they're open. Weather and wind are a consideration. Suitable for most kayaks, and experienced canoeists. Contact me with questions. Paddle Lower Niagara River Lewiston to Youngstown, Saturday July 4 - Independence Day 9A, Easy (C+) Paddle downstream 5 miles in the gorge, along the shore, and through the moored yachts. Possible wind and wake along the way. Arrive early to drop off boats and passengers at 9A, then begin the car shuttle to Youngstown. Launch at 10A. Suitable for most kayaks and canoes, and SUP. THREE DAY BACKPACKING TRIP on the Finger Lakes Trail.

Come join Leslie Salathe and Brian Monckton for a 21.9 mile backpack over three days and two nights through the gently rolling hills of Allegany State Park.  Following the Finger Lakes Trail, we will start from the north at the Bay State Road trailhead (not too far from the Red House park entrance) and head south toward our eventual trip terminus at PA Route 346.   Day one is the longest day with a hike of 8.5 miles to the Stony Brook lean-to where we will spend the night while overlooking beautiful Stony Brook.  Plenty of time to enjoy breakfast in camp the next morning, day 2 will take us 6.2 miles to the Willis Creek lean-to for another night enjoying the company and the sounds of Willis Creek.  The morning of day 3 brings a 7.2 mile hike  - leaving the park along the way and crossing a titch into Pennsylvania - to the trailhead at PA Route 346.   2 hours (or less!) from just about anywhere in WNY, easy access ---- come join us!    Contact Leslie at lesliesalathe@live.com or Brian at bkmonckton@gmail.com… Hosted By: Niagara Frontier Chapter. Camping at Lake Harris and Santanoni/Panther Day Hike

Leslie Salathe and I have booked a couple of camping sites at Lake Harris Campground for the nights of August 5 and 6. This campground is located near the Upper Works trailhead to the High Peaks area of ADK and will serve as a launch point to hike both Santanoni and Panther peaks on the 6th.  Depending upon the route, this day hike will be between 10.5 miles and 11.5 miles with a "Difficult" rating - regardless of the route.  Group size is capped at 8.
