This is a moderate double loop hike that passes the ORAK Ruin, Jackie Jones Mountain Summit, Fire Tower, Big Hill Shelter and the Third and Second Reservoirs. AT NY Hike #10: Depot Hill Rd to NY 22

Meet 8:45 AM across the street from the NY 22 Metro-North RR (GPS 41.594978, -73.586346). We shuttle back to the AT parking on Depot Hill Rd (GPS 41.572640, -73.680806). We hike across NY 55, pass Nuclear Lake, ending at the RR Station on NY 22. Near West Dover Road, we encounter the 300-year-old Dover Oak, which is the oldest known Oak tree on the entire Appalachian Trail, with a trunk over 20 feet in circumference. MacMillan Reservoir Loop

Turn onto the Dunning Trail which will take you past Bowling Rocks and lead to the Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail (R-D). Next, follow the Lichen Trail which will lead to the Times Square Trail junction. We will start at 9:15 AM sharp and cross the street and will start going east on the Tamarack Loop (P) Trail to the Yellow (Y) Trail going north for about 2.5 miles all the way to Twin Hill and back on the Schuber (O) Trail going west and south to the return leg of the Tamarack Loop (P) and to the parking lot area. Silvermine Lake Loop

Meet at 9:30 AM at the parking lot by Silvermine for a hike around the Lake. Silvermine parking lot is located along Seven Lake Parkway, about 1.5 miles from Long Mountain Traffic Circle. This loop follows the Menomine Trail, Ramapo-Dunderberg Trail, and Silvermine Road around the lake. There is a small area of rock scrambling and a stream crossing. Sterling Forest Lake Loop

Start 9:30 AM at Sterling Forest Visitor Center Parking, 115 Old Forge Rd, Tuxedo Park, NY 10987. Easy walk around Sterling Lake featuring a historic furnace and mine. Be sure to check out the displays in the visitor's center. Catch the blue blaze trail in front of the visitor's center going west. Pass the foundation of an old church on right, then enter the woods. Cross the wooden bridge (over the old sluice for the water wheel) and the furnace is a short side trip to the left. Built in the 1700s, it was restored in the 1950s. Continue on the blue-blazed trail. Comes out on a road and follows it for a while, then enters the woods and continues around the lake, crossing an inlet on a berm. The trail then turns south and begins to climb. Follow back to the visitor's center. We will stop and have lunch on the lake beach at the far side of Sterling lake. AT NJ #7 Wallkill River to Pochuck Boardwalk

The 7th of a 9-part series of shuttle hikes covering the entire Appalachian Trail in NJ - join us for one, some, or all! Arrive by 8:45 AM for a prompt 9:00 AM start at the AT parking on NJ 517 (GPS 41.235759, -74.480384). We shuttle to the Winding Waters Trail parking on Oil City Rd, hike around Liberty Loop and along Pochuck Mountain.
