Hike, Twin Valleys, Wadhams
CATS (Champlain Area Trails System) purchased the Twin Valleys Outdoor Education Center and its trail system (which connects to other CATS trails) from SUNY Plattsburgh in October, 2025. We will hike the 3+ mile Twin Valley loop. I plan to add 2 or 3 out and back short spurs to views from a ledge of Payne Mtn, summit of Ferguson Mtn and possibly the Wayne Duprey Trail for a total of about 6.5 to 7.5 miles (including the loop). The elevation gain on the loop is about 300 feet, with an additional 200' to the Payne ledge and 260' to the Ferguson summit. (The Duprey Trail, if we do it, has about 225' elevation change).

paddle, Brown’s Tract, Town of Long Lake
We will do Browns Tract Inlet the Monday after “The 90 Miler” in hopes that the industrious beavers have not had time to rebuild their dams. This paddle is in the Moose River Plains Wild Forest. Here we will paddle down a calm meandering stream that is narrow and twisty sometimes only 4 feet wide. Once we reach Raquette Lake, we will turn left /north and paddle 0.2 miles to the town where our cars are parked and where you can get an ice cream or another tasty reward at the Raquette Lake General Store.

Paddle, Utowana/Eagle/Blue Mountain Lake (Eckford Chain)
A one-way paddle on the Eckford Chain starting at Utowana Lake and proceeding to Eagle and Blue Mountain Lakes. This chain of lakes is connected by navigable channels. There are no portages. Not only are the lakes beautiful with little to no boat traffic, but the channels are beautiful as well. William West Durant built a stone bridge between Eagle and Blue Mountain Lakes which is a real gem. The paddle will start on Utowana Lake and end at Blue Mountain Lake’s town beach. Paddlers will meet and unload their watercraft at Utowana Lake at 9:30 AM. We will drive our vehicles to the end point at Blue Mountain Lake’s town beach and then carpool back to Utowana Lake to start our paddle at approximately 10:30 AM. There are several islands on Blue Mountain Lake where we can stop for a stretch and a bite to eat. Estimated mileage is 6-8 miles depending on how much of Blue Mountain Lake we want to explore.

Hike Wardsboro Road
October 29: Wardsboro Road Hike, Town of Bolton/Hague, Leader: Brendan Hanley, Level: Easy ADK Rating: Leader Level 1, C (Easy), Duration: 3 Hours Limit: 10, Description: During much of the nineteenth century the Wardsboro Road connected the north and south basins of Lake George on the west side of the lake. The road, named for the once “thriving” farming community of Wardsboro, ran (and portions/remnants still run) for 7 miles between upland Hague and Bolton). By the 1920’s most of the residents of Wardsboro had either moved away or died out (along with the community itself). I plan to confine this fall’s outing to a 4 to 5 mile (total out and back) exploration of the southern portion of the Wardsboro Road, including the historic Wardsboro Cemetery. Hopefully other evidence of the abandoned community (cellar holes/stone walls) can also be located. The hike will not include any significant/extended elevation gain. Meeting Place/Time: Meet at 9:30AM at a place to be determined near Bolton Landing. Contact:…
